reshafting a combo set of p730’s (7-W)and p750’s (3-6)

when cleaning out the hosel’s I came to find out whoever owned them before bored out the 6 iron to where the head is 3g LIGHTER than the 5 iron head.

here is the question:

what would be the downside of adding the weight back in the form of a tip weight? 6 or 8g, is that too much?

do I need to get a new head to keep weight progression?

Many of those TM iron heads have a port at the bottom of the hosel to hold a bullet style weight used in the factory (so were designed for the weight to be adjusted by adding to the hosel). They don't commonly come out when pulling the heads but it's not impossible that the one was either removed intentionally or accidentally. That might at least explain the weight discrepancy between heads.

But to answer the question, no that's not too much, tip weights go up to 10-12 gm and one can go even higher with lead/tungsten powder down steel shafts. There is no hard rule as to where the line is drawn at what will be too much. There are some that don't like the idea of using any tip weight in the hosel, but they are by far in the minority. The vast majority feel that up to 10 gm or even a little more is perfectly fine.

You are correct on the bullet style weight and this one must have been removed.
Should I add the tip weight like normal in the tip of the shaft or flip the weight over and add it similar to the bullet weights in the other heads?

Just install it normally. If it doesn't fit quite right in the bullet hole, it might interfere with the shaft insertion depth. And there will be noticeable difference in the end result.
