2020 Tour B XS vs Tour B RXS

I REALLY like the Tour B XS ball, however my swing speed is less than the 105 that Bridgestone recommends. I see that Freddie and some other champions tour guys are playing RXS. I’m pretty sure Freddie still moves it pretty far and swings over 105. I’ve tried the RXS in the previous models and always found them to be shorter off my irons and driver. I’m planning on trying them side by side but just wanted to see if anyone else has compared them.

I am.in the process of moving from Snell MTB-X to Bridgestone. I am currently playing the Tour B RXS and loving them. My swing speed is right at 105 so I'm kinda in between balls. I did play a Tour B XS given to me by a friend for a couple holes yesterday. I did not like it as well as the RXS. Three days ago a different friend gave me a Tour B X to play and it was like the RXS on steroids. I literally gained a club with that ball in the round I played with it. Overshot the first four greens and finally figured out I needed to club down. I liked the Tour B X so much I went ahead and did the buy 3 get 1 free deal from Bridgestone. Played the RXS yesterday and had my second best round of the year.

All this to say, for me its: Tour B X, Tour B RXS, Tour B XS. I know... makes no sense. Golf is damned funny that way.

My SS is low 90s but RXS is short of all clubs so I went with Tour B-RX and it’s a game changer. The 2020 cover improvement is for real. I’m spinning full wedges and chips as well. Not ProV1 spin, which IMHO is too much, but easily predictable and mid irons stop within 3 feet of pitch mark. Hated previous version due to lack of spin, but 2020 gives me driver length and good enough touch to start lowering my index.

The 105 mph driver CHS is a recommendation not a hard and fast rule. If the XS works, keep playing it.

I’m going to test all three models tomorrow. Just going off feel off chips, and putter, I prefer the B XS. The RXS feels like a rubber ball, and Tour B feels just a little too firm. I’ll find out tomorrow.

I swing my driver right at the 105-108mph but my 7 iron ss average is only 85. The new b rxs was short on all clubs. And I’m calling bs that Freddie plays that ball. Something tells me they just stamped that on his ball for marketing purposes.

That’s what I’m thinking. Freddie can still move it out there 300+. His commercial says he hits the RXS further but I’m skeptical. I’ll find out tomorrow, but I know in the past the RXS was short for me. I’m only 90-95 with the driver and 75ish on my 7 iron.

any updates on how the test went? Curious about the RXS

I tested that originally, but I'm not a fan of the rubber ball feel of low compression balls. IT performed good, I just find the softer balls to jump off the club around the club and tend not to spin as much as I like. It performed great on full shots and of the driver, just was not a fan of it around and on the green. But if you like the low compression balls I would recommend you to try it.

Thanks for the update. played the B330 years ago then switched to Pro V1x and this year was in the process of switching to Pro V1. After seeing the ads for the 105mph swings, I started considering the B-RXS, but now am not sure as I am also not a fan of the superball feel.

seems like the RXS compares more to a Callaway supersoft than a chromesoft.

I would not worry about the swing speed "recommendations". I played the 2018 Tour B XS and loved it and my ss is top at about 95 with the driver. I'm actually playing the 2020 Tour B X now because I hit it a little further off the driver, a little higher with my irons, and still spins plenty around the green for me, and does not feel hard like other X balls. I would highly recommend trying the Tiour B XS and the Tour B X. DOn't worry about nbot swinging above 105, I sure don't.

How are these balls in the wind? My home course is a link style and it’s very windy most of the time.

Is there much difference between 2020 and prior generation when it comes to distance and feel?

I play the prior generation Tour B XS, the R's never impressed me....they are solid in the winds of N Texas.

The 2020 Tour B X ifeels softer and spins more inside 100 than the 2018 model. The 2020 Tour B XS feels pretty close to the same but spins a little less off the driver. I played 2018 Tour B XS last year and it was really good, but the 2020 Tour B X feels similar but i hit it about 10yds further off the driver, flight the irons a little higher, and spin it slightly less inside 100 oand around the greens. Still plenty of stopping power. But the 10 yds off the tee are big for me.

Snell MTB-X for me. All this year I’ve played mostly MTB-X, MTB Black, and Bridgestone Tour BX. I heard so much hype about the Bridgestone balls I had to try them, especially since I really like the last model BXS.

I tend to like a slightly softer feel on my wedges and irons, off the driver I don’t care as much. Putter is odd. A softer ball seems to give me more feedback, so I don’t normally leave them short like can happen with firmer balls. For example, I putt better with a BXS, MTB Black, and oddly TP5X than I do with BX or MTB-X. The softer balls feel a bit springier, so I have an easier time not coming up short with my softer insert putter (odyssey exo 7s).

 

MTB-X launches higher off driver than Black and BX, which is preferable. I like the higher launch.

Irons and wedges I like the Black the most.

Putter - even though I just said I like the softer balls because they get to the hole better for me, I’ve figured out I like the MTB-X better than the other two because the audible feedback is slightly “brighter.” And I can overcome the tendency to leave it short by just putting with it more.

 

MTB-X all day from here on. Until Dean launches a new model! I think I’ll probably work through my 5 dozen by then.

Driver SS 100mph here. Two years ago I spent a LOT of time testing balls. The TP5 was my choice that year, but would have been happy to play two or three others. One of those was the Tour B XS and I decided to switch to it all of last year. Again, I decided I could have been happy playing 2 or 3 other balls but it performed great for me.

This year, I decided to do a less exhaustive test and only included the Tour B XS, and RXS. I hit them off the same tees side by side and measured distance, from the same fairway lie, chips on our fantastic practice green, bumps, putts...you name it and I hit it. My conclusion is for me they are close enough in performance that choosing one over the other will not affect my scores. Right now, I think I will go for the RXS because of the soft feel off the clubs. I am sure there will be days when I decide I want a little firmer feel off the putter, and for those days I will tee up the XS.

I really enjoy playing both these balls, but TP5 and ProV1x are balls I could also be happy with.
