I just got a 20g, 10g and two 5g weights today from PXG.  I'm going to try a 5g in the toe with 15g in the back first.  I know everyone is different but for those who bought more weights, what are you using?

just got in today as well 2x5g 1x10 & 1x12.5 going to start with 10 front, 5 heel, 5 back, 2.5 toe. or 12.5 front, 5 heel, 2.5 back, 2.5 toe!

Has anyone hit the 0211 and compared it to the 0811 proto? I'm trying to decide between the two. Got to hit the proto today and loved it; just trying to justify the increased cost of the proto.

Was curious on the 0211 as well, but I like the fact the proto has more weight adjustments. Last weekend was the first time out after purchasing the proto, and I really liked, and noticed a difference when I moved the 15g weight from back to front.

Yeah that's kinda what has sold me on the proto. My buddy had the weight forward, and my shots were a little lower than I expected. So he moved the weight back for me and it helped me get some rise on the shots. Given that the proto is low spinning to begin with, I am not sure the same "adjustment" would be needed, esp since PXG advertises that the 0211 has more weight in the back.

What did you notice in flight?

Guys noticing lower spin with the weight forward? I play mine in the toe.

Had a little time today with the proto+ today on the course. messed around with a lot of weight combinations. My best combo was small-, 10gm in the heel, 5gm back, 2.5 front, and toe. My initial testing with the weight forward was with range balls. Today was with real golf balls. The front weighting did lower my flight some, but also caused me to go a little more right than I like. But that could also be my swing. I do like the feel and sound over my ping g410+.

Still can’t get my spin down with the X+. Besides the stock RipTide CB, also tried OBAN Devotion & Accra TZ5. 12.5g weight forward. On-course testing, no LM data.

Did you loft it down? That worked nicely for me and really getting on with my +. I also moved a 5gram weight in the toe along with my heaviest in the front/center port.

What is your full weight setup.

I am 20 in the toe and the rest 2.5. Thinking about doing 15 in the front, 7.5 in the toe, and rest 2.5. Or maybe 10 in front, 10 in toe, and rest 2.5. Playing mine at 44.75”.

Has anyone messed around much with the lie settings in addition to (or in place of) the weights?

Did my fitting with our very good PXG rep here in LA last fall and we ended up with the heavy weight forward on an X+ with the "PXG" (I believe 3 degrees flat) hosel setting. At the time my miss was definitely a hook but over the last few months I've started going the other way, I'm not hooking the ball at all (and have really taken the left side out of play which was one of my goals!) but I'm also getting a few shots a round now that are really leaking right on me.

Almost certainly this is a swing fault I need to work on (COVID has meant lots of golf but no lesson / launch monitor time in nearly a year) and not the club, but just wondering if others have seen major changes from the lie angle setting or if that has a weaker impact than moving headweights around.

You are lucky that you get use of 20 + 2.5 +2.5 + 2.5 = 27.5 grams to work with.  For my set up, I get 17.5 grams total to work with.

I think you will like the balance more that way.  I noticed when I either put all of the mass in front or all in the toe, the driver was a lot less consistent to deliver. The current set up is below:

44.5" D4 SW, Tensei AV Raw 65 S tipped 1/2", GP Tour Wrap White

7.5Front, 5 Toe, 2.5 Heal and 2.5 Rear

Turned down to little - setting on loft sleeve

Yes the PXG setting is 3º flat.  With that in mind, if you are hitting some right balls it would tell me that you might be catching the toe a bit on those shots.  You need to figure out why that is coming into play. The leading edge is pretty rounded so that would not be like a more square leading edge iron.

The other thing a flat setting does is effectively lengthen the club with respect to feel because it moves the clubhead further away (we are not talking a big thing here though). That would mean it is slightly harder to close the face.  Slowly swing the club with both lie settings and see if you can feel the difference.

I would 1) Try changing to standard lie.  2) swap weighting slighting more to the heel if you stay with the PXG setting.  Try them both and see what happens.  Good luck!

Just called PXG about my Proto 3 wood build and asked the guy about the heavier weight in the front on the Proto driver and asked how much he thinks it would lower the spin. He said around 300 rpm or so. We talked about weight setups. I am ordering 2x 10 grams to try instead of the 20 in the toe. They will be ready when I pickup my Proto 3 wood on Wed.

Thanks for the advice. I have my Proto+ at Big Minus (9*) and 12.5g weight front, rest are 2.5’s. I bought it off PXG Express store and those were the weights that came with it. It came hot melted in the hosel, some of which I removed because it got all over the screw.

I tend to hit high on the face, and my misses are straight but high & spinny that go nowhere.

I finally got t9 hit outside tonight - with snow on the ground a frozen net and mat, but I tried out some stuff.   I had it set up with 15g in back and 5g everywhere else and I wanted to bias the toe.  I changed to 12.5g in the back 7.5g in toe and 5g heel and front.  The weight change was big.  I also tried moving from the Riptide CB to a HZRDUS Red and that was a big move as well.  Tried HZRDUS Smoke Black and Yellow in there as well.  The Yellow was a maybe and the Black felt a little dead for me.

For me I can tell when things change and the sound is very different off the central area of the face.  I had a very narrow strike pattern for me.  Maybe one day it will be above freezing with no snow on the weekend so I can play.  O play year round and we have been snowed out 4 weeks in a row and this weekend it is supposed to be very cold.

I think this head performs best when you do not have a massive difference in one of the weights.  A more gradual shift seems to allow you to really dial in the performance.

Wow.  Had the day of my life with the Proto today.  Had the weight (15g) in the back. I hit high (for this driver/much lower than my epic flash SZ) straight drives.  I missed two fairways off to the right but that was it.

i may try it upfront again tomorrow but loved it in the back.

I’ve also found splitting the heavy weights into two moderate weights balances the club.  I’ve been playing 12.5 in front with 7.5 in the toe at 9.5 Flat.  I’m going to try the 12.5 in the back on my next indoor trackman round and see what it does.  I will say the weight forward on this driver isn’t nearly as punishing as it is on other drivers I’ve used outside the Ping LST.

Ok, I was wrong.  Didn’t play today but hit the range. Took a few swings and hit the exact same drives as yesterday.  Long and straight.  Was going to try and move the weight to the back to the front and then saw that the weight was actually in the front.  So I have it in the lowest spin setting. I’ll leave it there for now.  My 15g has the dots painted black and not white so hard to see sometimes.
