That's One of the Six Core Lies I have discovered. When you take the club too far back, it disconnects the machine and possible turns it into a more chaotic triple pendulum rather than a double pendulum, which is a little more predictable. Plus it puts you in an uncomfortable arms across body feeling/position. I think Tiger always talked about keeping the club in front of himself. I have found to hit the ball crazy more consistent not taking it too far back. But we tend to want to do some of the other lies in conjunction with not taking the club too far behind you. This one is #4 in my list. But still, if you are doing other (LIES) technical things that are wrong, any one of them, then this alone, will not cure the cancer. Get rid of the lies and cure the cancer....... A piece of fruit has many characteristics, color, texture, tartness, juicyness, etc. But if you have an apple that has most of the characteristics perfect except for one that is completely wrong....you might as well throw the whole thing away. (Slice, Pull Hook, Fat, Short)

Not to side with OP here, but I wouldn’t call those pics arm overrun like OP was talking about. All of them have massive turns, and their arms are going back relative to them...sure this can be debated and nit picked, but those guys are some of the top 0.0001% to ever play, so regardless of arm overrun or not, they are exceptions to any “rules” for efficient swings that ams may benefit from.

Yes but a lot of really good players get their arms across there bodies, Bobby Jones pretty much pinned his lead arm across his chest to start down. My point is that there really are no core lies. It is better to figure out what works for the golfer in question. I am sure that there are golfers who have succeeded using what is considered the worst swing instruction things like 'keep your left arm straight' or 'keep your head down'. Something that jells with one certain individual might be one or more of the OP's 'lies'.

Arms across is way different than arm overrun. Like I said before, moving the arms relative to the length of the turn is the key. The guys in the pic, guys like Jones...they all do that. Arm overrun is a problem. Not going across the line, past parallel, etc.

How many balls a day did these guys hit creating muscle memory and timing. you can figure out the timing when you incorporate a lie, but you can't count on it under pressure. Keep them coming....

Hint for one .... what do you guys do to get more clubhead speed? Hips, arms, protein shakes???? Bring it

Bobby Jones did not practice much at all as he was rather busy with other things like getting an ME degree and becoming a lawyer. Mickelson is probably the one of that group who put in the most hours practicing. They all did quite well under pressure.

The swing that works for you is not necessarily the swing that will work for someone else.
