Vice Pro Plus versus ProV1x?

I am not that good. I can break 90 and have been out of it for a few years. I am currently playing/testing Callaway Super Soft (pretty long, soft) it's a $20 a dozen ball. I also have Wilson Fifty Elite which is pretty good. I like how soft better Wilson's are off the irons.

Over the years I have found tons on balls including ProV1 and ProV1x in the woods at where I used to play. I would find them waiting for people to finish a hole in the afternoons. As I got better, I found the Pro V1x is a really great ball. Very long, soft, will not ballon slice, putts and chips incredibly well.

According to some web site for 2020 it is the second longest ball after the Titleist Velocity. The Velocity is pretty close to ProV1x at $27.99 a dozen but around the greens and off mid irons not as much spin.

Has anyone played the Vice Pro Plus? I usually do not like buying clones but the ProV1x at $42.99 or 47.99 is a bit rich. I know you can get them slightly used but not sure who has good ones that are really Mint condition.

I might sound like a broken record but here we go,,,,,,,,,,,, You sound like me , tried many premium balls and when I have the one good hole/round, I start thinking I’ve found it, but then comes the next round/hole, back to square one.

Then I tried the 3 piece Kirkland and that’s all I play now, a lot cheaper too.

I'm close to scratch and I played the Vice Pro Plus all of last year after playing ProV1x for years. In terms of performance, I genuinely could not tell a difference. Yardages, spin, etc - I saw no change from what I was accustomed to. That being said, as far as durability - they do not hold up nearly as well. The Vice balls lasted maybe 1/2 to 1/3 as long as the ProV1s before I felt that I needed to replace them.

If you want to play a premium ball that performs like a ProV1x but doesn't cost an arm a leg, the Snell MTB-X is the best thing on the market. And that's from independent testing data, not my opinion. If you buy 5 dozen at a time, it cost $29/doz, and, along with the ProV1's and the TP%'s, you'll be playing as good a ball as there is for distance and spin. FWIW, the Vice balls just do NOT test out quite as well as any of the ones I just mentioned, including the Snells.

In all of my searches, there just isn’t a replacement ball for the ProV1 or V1x. Everything else is just another ball with its own benefits. Some other balls I like that are good alternatives are Srixon Z Star and XV and Bridgestone RX and RXS. My favorite non-ProV ball is the 2020 Callaway Chrome Soft. That ball flat out performs for me!!!

That’s just flat out not true. There are several balls that outperform them or at the very least have the same performance.

Testing all sorts of ball is fine but I don't see the benefit for mid-high index golfers. If a person can't control distance and dispersion and get though multiple rounds with the same ball, thinking a 4-5 piece professional ball might make a difference is, IMO, a waste of hard-earned money. My 13-15 index buddy consistently loses the one's I give him.@hammergolf - I think you misunderstood him. He didn't state a scientific fast. I read his post as stating an opinion, "there isn't anything as good," which I happen to agree with. I've tested all the premium balls too. Sure there are balls out there that are comparable and cheaper than ProV line. But out-perform I don't buy it cause much of how a ball performs depends on the use mechanics, ball striking skills, and wallet. I know good golfers that won't pay the price for Titleist ProV line balls, and there's nothing wrong with that. Just like I know guys that won't pay for Pirelli P-zero or Continental tires for their P-car just to leave rubber on the track. It's personal. Have a good day.

You're absolutely correct. If you do a deep dive on the independent testing that's been done, it turns out that the differences in basic numbers between various premium golf balls are VERY small. They all launch at more or less the same angles, carry very similar distances, and have similar spin rates. None of that is surprising if you think about USGA specs and the physics of ball flight; both of those are the same for any ball manufacturer.

IMO, the testing data shows three shining stars among the premium balls, though; the two ProV1's, the two TP5's, and the two Snell MTB's. Those six balls outperform pretty much everything on the market if you look at the data across all swing speeds and types of shots. That said, I think the ProV1's might have a VERY slight edge in consistency from ball to ball, especially in terms of wedge distance and dispersion. Not worth the extra money to me vs. Snell, but still a consideration.

But the bottom line is that, even though there are LOTS of really good golf balls on the market, I think you can look at those six balls as being the class of the field right now.

The statement he made has been clarified. But originally he didn’t say in his opinion or about less expensive balls. The data shows that the overwhelming majority of golfers could not tell the difference or see a performance advantage On most premium balls.

Thanks. I was out today by myself. I play more bogeys than pars. Just working to get better. I was playing Callaway Super Soft, Wilson Fifty Elite (surprisingly good ball), and older found Pro v1s with no scuffs. After a few holes I was on the Pro V1 - they and the Prov 1x are just so consistent. It really improves your confidence. I played the Wilson too and it is good.

I will have to try the Vice Pro Plus. I was going to buy Kirkland but do not have Costco card. Sometimes they will sell to non-members. Not golf balls or gloves.

Consistency / QC is the key for me. I want a ball that’s the same from sleeve to sleeve, box to box with subtle improvements year to year.

Years ago ( 90’s) I played Maxfli HT Balata and Revolution because they were good balls and a bit cheaper than Titleist Tour Balata’s, but their QC was terrible. I had some issues with Callaway Chrome Soft The first couple if versions as well.

I can honestly say I’ve never had issues with QC from Titleist, and I played both ProV1 and NXT Tours for quite a while.

In the past I've ordered PV1s from lostgolfballs.com and have absolutely zero complaints. If you get the top quality ones you can barely tell they have ever been hit. At worst they might have a marker line or dot on them. If it really bothers you, it can come off with rubbing alcohol. They are quite a good value IMO if you're concerned about price. You can consistently find them on there for less $$$ than Snell or Vice.

I've tried all 3 of last year's model Vice Pro models, didn't like Pro Soft because the matte finish (that's been corrected with this year's model) it's a nice, soft, spinning ball, pretty long as well. Best overall is the Vice Pro, it's basically a Pro V1 to me.

FWIW, I found the Kirkland to be kind of clicky putting and short game shots, doesn't spin as well as the Vice from what I found.
