Golf Trip within 3 hours of Washington DC?

Hey folks,

 

I'm looking to get a little golf trip together with my brothers who all live in the DC area. What would be your recommendations for areas within 3 hours of Washington DC? We're thinking we'd try to get an AirBnB somewhere then just play 3-4 courses in an area. We area open to going East, West, North and South. Ocean City, MD is an option, so is Williamsburg VA. West could take you to the Shenandoah Valley area, there are a couple of decent courses around Winchester, or maybe up towards Cumberland MD and the casino/resort at Rocky Gap. North could be Gettysburg to Harrisonburg, I'm not as familiar with that area, but I know Penn National has two courses.

I agree with Dave on Ocean City and Williamsburg. Both have lots of options for quality golf, good night life (once virus restrictions are lifted), and lots of lodging to choose from. Pams Golf puts together packages for Ocean City. I don't know of any packager for Williamsburg. I have yet to travel recently so check ahead for any restrictions for dining or lodging. Golf itself should be OK in either state.

Aberdeen, MD (between Baltimore and Philly) and play Bulle Rock. A Dye design that has hosted a couple of PGA and LPGA events. Close enough to Philly to make a trip up there. Pound for pound, no metro area that I have been to has better golf courses then the Philly-Atlantic City area. Wyncot south of Philly is outstanding. A number of nice tracks north of Baltimore also. Already mentioned Williamsburg, Gettysburg and Ocean City get a thumbs up from me. Hershey, PA (Hershey Park) is also nice if families are coming.

I would also encourage you to look closely at the Pinehurst area! I just made the trip down from DC and it was an easy 4:45 to Tobacco Road, then only 30 mins to the Pinehurst courses, Midpines, Pine Needles, and Dormie. It has to be one of the top golf destinations in the US, and frankly, the world.

Ocean City and Williamsburg are very good but I suggest you check on Penn National. 2 very different and interesting courses, no need to take your car and second to none service

No need for a car? I agree about the two courses - different as night and day.

Within 3 hours then OC and Williamsburg. Although OC is in season and hotels just reopened so it could get expensive.

As mentioned above. I'd you can stretch it by 1.4 hours. Then Pinehurst area definitely is worth it.
