Worst golf clubs ever

Hey fellas,

A few weeks ago I bought a used taylormade r11 driver. Worst golf club I’ve ever used. Sprayed it left and right. Switched to my old r5 and hit it longer and straighter. I just sold the r11 today and it got me thinking. What’s the worst golf clubs you have ever used?

Tour edge putter with a super soft insert. Can’t even remember which one. Bought it on Rock Bottom golf I think. Insert was way too high up the face, leaving the bottom of the face as a hard surface. The ball would either hit the marshmallow insert or hit the hard part and go shooting off the green.

Featherlite set of irons. Fine on the range; terrible on the course. they were too light to maintain any kind of tempo.

You probably had an ill-fitted shaft in your R-11. That club isn't awful.

I had an uncle who filmed informercials in Vegas... I’d occasionally get clubs from him.

this was 20 years ago, so I don’t remember he names... the wizard wedge? Some putter with a brass head and a black shaft... center shafted, i think. It was bad.

I bought a set of Nike irons, don't remember the name of them but they were no good for me. Felt terrible, played 2 rounds with them and dumped them.

I was disappointed with the Bullseye putter I bought in 1980.

This is going to be subjective but in terms of sales, pretty much any driver that Cleveland and Wilson have introduced in the past 8-10 years. They just sit on the shelf gathering dust. Some of it is just marketing for sure, but when you bring out strictly glued, super ultra light drivers (Cleveland) this day you are losing a big chunk of the market. I know they have Srixon but it seems silly to bring out a driver that is targeted solely to seniors and women but they market it as applicable to anyone and everyone. Wilson, well need I say more? Their last 2 drivers had to be sourced from a TV show and still got them no sales. The Triton was so, so, so, bad. I know a lot of people bought the drivers for like $100-$125, took the shaft out of it and then just traded it in because it was real-deal tour Rogue 125. For other drivers, it was a dark cesspool around 2008-2010 when everyone got the idea to go super geometric and weird with the squares, triangles, etc. You saw a lot more of those types of drivers traded in at the next trade-in days following than you did of previous models.

Wedges, well, I have no idea if they sold well elsewhere but I've sold exactly 1 Callaway SureOut wedge. It must have sold okay because they brought out a version 2. Man that thing is ugly and feels and looks so cheap.

Nike VR Str8-fit Driver. What a massive piece of shit that was. I bet I had the wrong shaft/head combo because it wasn't fitted but god damn that club was my kryptonite.

Vokey SM5 wedges. Horribly inconsistent around the greens and felt super harsh to me.

1st edition Callaway S2H2 driver, biggest POS ever. Have never swung that brand since but gotta admit a triple diamond epic looks highly seductive.

Callaway C4?

Apparently taught the company how to work with carbon composite but the club itself was a laughing stock from memory.

The C4 copies were on sale before the real thing. It felt like a marshmallow. Original Nike drivers were shocking. Expensive and very hard to get any sort of trajectory.

A set of Natural Golf irons. Awful. They didn’t even last a day before I sent them back.

ON the other hand, the original Cleveland Launcher Ti 460 from 2006, and the Launcher Comp, were very fine drivers in the day.

I know some people liked them, but the SLDR was the worst pos TM ever made. The driver had zero playability in the real world, they just wanted to trick people with a 1 in 10 spin killer on the launch monitor. I can't remember the last driver TM made since the r5 series days that felt good on center or off center hits as well. They really need to improve the feel of their drivers.

My dad had the driver and 3W from that line - and I actually still have them sitting in my closet. I remember not even remotely being able to hit them but he loved those things.

For my contribution ... the Nike Slingshots. In a brief return to the game after a several year layoff back in the 00's when I couldn't hit my MP14s anymore; I picked them up because they were ... well, "new" and "kinda cool."

They might have been why I didn't pick up a club for another 10 years. Just terrible.

Two reasons I'm going to comment on this topic.

1. I'm going to second the Nike hybrid. Only club I have ever bought based on hitting it into a net and looking at the numbers. I couldn't even tell you what model it was now...but it was red and it sucked. Played about 10 rounds with it and I can't think of one good shot I hit with it. I'll never buy a club again where I can't see the actual ball flight first

Cobra amp fairway woods or the killer whale driver I had when I was young. Both were impossible to hit straight. Probably just me though

Square Nike driver. Looked terrible, sounded worse. Cleveland also had a driver, forgot the model but had a scooped out top line. Fugly & sounded like you were hitting an empty drum w/ a hammer.

 

All Cleveland VAS clubs are perennial contenders on this topic.

The C4 driver was just straight junk. A driver that shared it's name with an actual explosive was nothing close to explosive! Almost as bad as the Callaway Tour Blue putters. Did Cally actually sell any of those? Two of the bigger misses from Callaway. Especially the putter as Cally had owned Odyssey for some time at that point.
