Hovland's Putter

Watching early coverage this morning, just wondering what putter from ping he is using, looks to be some kind of counterbalance option?

Grab a look at “what’s is the bag”. Hovland has one from 3-4 weeks before play stopped. He’s got one of them Ping PVD or whatever they are called. The ones that are f’ing sweet but never make it to retail.

I think PLD is the name you're looking for.

The putter is a PLD Hovland. There is a custom program for it through Ping that is through your Ping reps. It is on the higher price point but reasonable for a custom putter. Here is mine from before COVID hit

They start at 1,200, but you do have to fly to Phoenix to get fit.

To confirm...I can order this through an Authorized Ping rep or the only way to get it is to fly out for a fitting?

The only way is to go the Ping in Phoenix and be fit for one.  I am  not even sure if the program is up and running with Covid.  I wish you could just call and order one if you know what specs you want.  I am guessing they really don't want to sell very many.

Yep.   Here's a WITB back when he signed with Ping in June 2019 and kept the Mullen 2 in the bag at the time.

Sorry to keep harping on this, but do you know if they could make you any head you want, or does it have to be based off a players putter.  I would kill for a modern weighted My Day putter (a head ping had released for a while) and am pretty tight with my ping rep.  I might have to inquire with him if this is still going on.

I’m not for sure but I would guess you can get anything you would want as you’re paying through the nose for it.

i know this take is tired, but man Ping is missing out on so many opportunities by not offering high end milled through retail or custom through the website.  I have 3 Zings and a Myday that id love to have modern 'PLD' version of,  especially with that raw finish Hovland has

If not I'm sure there are a few boutique putter companies w/ programmers competent enough to design exactly what you want if $ isn't an issue!  I'd go w/ a company that is more technical than "art" since its all CNC milling, you'll want to find the ones better at programming.
