Middletown NY, public options?

Looking for some public tracks to play in the Middletown area. I belong to a club in Rockland County but am spending a lot of weekdays in Middletown, are there any course that are a must play? Willing to drive around an 1:30 or so just not sure what’s around.

I don’t know much about north of Middletown, but in the area is Wallkill. It’s always in good shape and a nice layout. Mansion Ridge in Monroe is about 30 minutes south and a solid track. Downside is it’s a bit pricey and pace of play can be a little slow. You’re probably about an 1:15 from Crystal Springs resort in Jersey which is a great golf destination, I’d play Wild Turkey and Ballyowen there. They’re the most expensive but worth it. The Crystal Springs course can be a little unfair, moguls in the fairway and you can be punished for a good shot, just be prepared for that.

Wallkill and Mansion Ridge, as mentioned above, are two of the best public options in the area. Stony Ford is another decent option as it is inexpensive. Apple Green and West Point are worth a visit, but each is about 45 minutes from Middletown, so you could almost just as easily go back to Rockland to play.

If you are going to be spending a lot of weekday time in that area, I'd suggest becoming a weekday member at Otterkill Country Club. It is very reasonable and they'd probably give you a discount joining so late in the season.

Maybe The Garrison on the other side of the river or Patriot Hills in Stony Point?

I remember playing Blue Hills some years back but I don't remember the area.

Patriot Hills and Blue Hill are both in Rockland. The OP said he belongs to a club in Rockland and is looking for playing options near Middletown (Orange County). If you are going to send him back to Rockland, he'd probably play the club where he is a member. If he plays in Rockland he is already aware of Patriot Hills and Blue Hill
