Short trip to Denver

I am flying into Denver for a quick golf getaway in August. Flying in late Sunday, no golf

Monday - AM - Arrowhead

Monday - PM - Bear Dance - I really wanted to play Bear Dance and Arrowhead seems somewhat close to pair with.

Tuesday - AM - CommomGround

Tuesday - PM - Riverdale Dunes

Wednesday - AM - Green Valley Ranch

Then fly out. Any suggestions or changes to that itinerary?

Thats a decent setup. I would phone and check the condition of Bear Dance as I heard something recently about temp greens being in play on some holes.

 

Arrowhead... Its great for the views/rocks but I wouldnt throw it in there as a top course in the area for actual golf. Will leave it at that

 

Tuesday is going to be an incredible day, those two courses are my regulars and I'd say comfortably the best in the area, as well as Colorado National.

 

GVR is great, and its close to the airpot if you're flying out of Denver.

 

If you are looking for better golf I would honeslty skip Arrowhead and get on at the Ridge at Castle Pines. Its closer to Bear Dance and just way better aside from not hitting two tee shots between rocks.

I grew up in Denver, but haven't lived there for nearly 20 years, so things have certainly changed. But, you've got some good courses picked out. Quite a bit of driving in that list as well.

 

IMHO Arrowhead is more about scenery and experience than the quality of golf, but the experience is worth it. The holes in among the flatirons are something to see.

 

Beyond that, Riverdale Dunes is a course that I remember with a lot of fondness.

 

Buffalo Run, out on the North East side of town is another course that I used to really enjoy - and is not on your list.

 

Saddle Rock is another - also on the east side of town.

Someone in the local WRX group played it recently and said that The Ridge is in pretty bad shape right now. There is no sand in the bunkers, and lots of dead patches on fairways and greens. Definitely not worth paying rack rate for. Given the scorching hot weather we've been having, I'm not really sure if conditions will improve by August. Time will tell.

If this is your first time playing here, then Arrowhead isn't really a bad choice.

Another option for Tuesday or Wednesday would be Murphy Creek, which was the site of the US Mid-Am about 10 years ago.

I played The Ridge this past weekend - Sunday. Great shape, except for the bunkers. There is sand, but no one has raked them, so most are like cement with a lot of small stones.

No dead patches on fairways and greens.

Bear Dance and Commonground are great choices.

We also played The Ridge but would rate it behind the other two.

In retrospect I would have liked to play Arrowhead as a fun thing while in Denver. Next time.
