Ho Boy, can’t spell width, and it’s millimeters, not centimeters.

The sole width of the ZX7 is alittle narrower than the 2017 p790. I don’t have the zx5, but I would imagine that is closer to the sole width of the 2017 p790.

LEFT HANDED

Titleist TSR3 with Metaflex 5H shaft (currently testing the Proxima 6 stiff shaft)
Titleist TSR2 16.5 degree fwy with Ventus Red 7 stiff shaft
Ping G430 19 and 22 degree hybrids with Ventus Blue HB 8 stiff shaft
Srixon ZX7 mkii 5-PW with Fuji Axiom 105 stiff shafts

Titleist SM9 50F, 54D, 58T wedge with Fuji Axiom 105 stiff shafts
L.A.B. MEZZ Max putter with LAGP putter shaft

I'm around same HC as you and am torn whether I go full ZX5, full ZX7 (probably not) or combo.

Did you tell any feel/sound difference b/w the ZX5 7 iron and the ZX7 8 iron?  That's the only thing that I'm somewhat leery about, because they are 2 totally different types of construction

Any trajectory difference?  How's the gapping between the 7 and 8?  As anticipated if it was a non-combo set?

Haven’t hit them yet. Won’t be able to this weekend but hoping to next weekend. Will report back.

So I have a bit off a strange question. I have had the 2017 P790’s.  I like the blade with of that club. Are the 5’s or the 7’s closer to the P790 blade with?

I have a set of PXG 3rd generation p’s and I am having a bit of difficulty with them that I attribute to Blaine with.  Only 2 more centimeters, but just experiencing some issues.

I don’t have new Srixon ZX series but am eyeing them and had the same question as you.

Couldn’t find p790 sole width published online so did some at home measurement. Sole on my 2017 p790 4 iron is somewhere between 22-23mm.

Srixon ZX7 4 iron stated as 16.8mm on their site.  ZX5 4 iron listed at 21.5mm

ZX7 seems to be quite substantially thinner than 790s. Though also worth noting that the X5 cavity back extends a little deeper than the sole width in those low irons, whereas that’s not the case on 790s.  790 head basically same depth as sole width.

I mentioned earlier but I went and got fitted for the first time ever and was expecting to move from Z785 to ZX5 or combo of ZX7. My thinking was I could use a little more forgiveness. No matter what shaft I tried, the ZX5 went higher, spun more and I lost distance. Did not expect that whatsoever but the fitting was eye opening for me and I went full ZX7 set.

Has anyone who ordered through DD received their clubs or tracking info?

No, but I also just received my TSi2 7 Wood today that I ordered through DD and never got tracking for that. So not sure if we are going to get tracking info or not.

On a custom order does anyone know how much a graphite shaft would be tipped if you select "hard stepped"?

If it is a constant taper shaft they do not tip the shaft. They put the 8-iron blank in the 7-iron. So the PW does not get hard-stepped.

If it is a parallel tip shaft, it is tipped an extra half inch.

Already stuck to 745 last time over 785. Have one 745 set and Even building up a 745/945 combo with steelfibers too. I hear the zx is closest to head shape of 745. May buy but have nice old stuff to try first.

Can anyone post photos comparing the ZX7 to the 785?  The 785’s were nice, but a little “big” and thick in the top line.

No photos but unless your coming from SGI you are likely to see the top line as a little thick - especially in the mid irons.  It took me about five balls with the demo head to get over it and didn’t stop me from ordering a set but it would have been nice if they’d have beveled the top line slightly like Titleist did with the last couple iterations of the AP2.

On the positive side, it is utterly seamless to blend ZX5 and ZX7 if you need/want a combo set.

Any idea how the ZX7 compares to the T100/T100s, size, top line and setup?  The T100’s are very clean with a “thin” top line relative to it’s peers.

I actually spent quite a bit of time visually comparing the ZX7 to the T100 and the i210.  No measurements - just comparing visually the 7i and PW from each set.  To my eye, it is quite easy to see the difference between the T100 and i210 (e.g., T100 slightly smaller overall, much thinner top line, slightly less offset) but hard to tell the ZX7 from either.  The ZX7 clearly falls between the two.  The only easy to distinguish feature is the top line.  I actually think Titleist went just a skosh too far with the T100 given it’s overall size and it appears a bit too thin.  For a mid-size chassis such as T100 and ZX7, I think a top line right between the two would be perfect.

Keep in mind the differences described are fairly subtle.  It isn’t as if the ZX7 has the top line of the Ping G series.  It’s more like 714 AP2...

Not the ZX7 but I have the last 3 models 4-irons here, 745/765/785 left to right. Not much there in terms of differences in the top line. It’s fatter than a blade and squared edges.

I’d be willing to bet ZX7 vs 785 difference from the top will be negligible.

Anyone who’s been able to test the full bag care to share carry #s between the 4 iron and 5 iron? I’m curious cause there is only a 2 deg difference in loft with zx5

My experience is with the 565 but same lofts. I have about a 105 driver speed and I found basically no difference in carry between the two. I go a 4 hybrid in the 4 iron spot which gaps much better. On a very tight course I go a U65 3 iron which also gaps great with the 5 iron as it a 4 degree gap. So I go 3 wood 3 hybrid then 4 hybrid/3 utility 5 565 6-pw 785.

srixon went back to a more squared off toe and the heel and toe sole relief .. similar to the 745s.  the 765 and 785 heads I never considered because of the shape and size of the heads.  also the soles are thinner in the zx7s.  My initial impression is the 745s still look nicer sitting behind the ball but the thinner sole of the zx7s are enticing

Any way to confirm if shafts have been soft stepped?

The graphics on the club and where they are relative to the hosel and grip. But you will need a lot of information to figure it out.

Stepping an iron shaft (each step) changes it about a 1/3 to 1/2 a flex. It is more about feel than stiffness.

This assessment is spot on in my opinion.  I went in to my fitting wondering if i would have the game for the x7s- even as a high single digit cap.  Looking down at the club the first time I was surprised at how the top line was thicker than I expected but it gave me confidence.

I went 4 and 5 in the x5 and 6-A in the x7 and as said above, the combo set seems like it will blend well.

I'll find out in a few weeks when they get here
