difference between g400 and 710 irons

Is there any much of a difference between the ping g400 and g710 irons? Worth switching?

There is definitely a difference. G710 is a hollow body iron and g400 is a cavity back. G710 is probably more forgiving and longer....whether it is worth switching, I doubt it. If you were fit into your g400 you won't see $1000 of improvement.

I made the switch from 400 to 710 and gained a club length per iron. Now I will admit the WRXer in me feel in love with the look but I went for a fitting and they worked for me. Is it worth 1,000 bucks only you can answer that one for me it was. The more rounds I get on them the more I like them or dare I say love them.

Do the 710s fly higher loft for loft (think the lofts per club should be within a degree vs the 400s)? I am interested in the 710s (or 700s) but have not been able to play them off of grass.

Yes the 710 irons definitely launch higher, longer and easier than the G400 irons.

I have always been a high ball hitter with irons but yes I would say higher. I don't have any trouble sticking a green with either the 400s or 710s. I have had some extreme toe hits with the 710s that went straight and high so more forgiving for sure..

Well at my age of 74, my speed is slower that it was a few years ago, looking for a higher lofting iron. I tried graphite, but they launched high, but also lost distance. The ball went high. Thank ?You for your input and answering my post!

OP - I had the 700's LY and the 710's TY. Both are very good irons, and I changed to the 710's for a couple of reasons - some vanity and some related to my golf game. I REALLY like the black / gray color scheme of the 710's vs. the more traditional color of the 700's. I also felt that while the 700's were great on mis hits, the 710's were slightly better. Lastly, I made a change to the shafts to gain a little bit of height and carry to the 710's. I know I could have reshafted the 700's, but like all god WRXers, I do like shiny and new!

When I was fit for the 700's I did also try the 410's. While they were nice, they didn't give me the wow factor that the 700's did. When I switched to the 710's TY I tried the new TM 790's along with the Cobra forged TEC hollow body - for me, the 710's just felt and performed the best.

Regarding graphite vs. steel and your high launch and lost distance. This can happen if you are used to a medium to heavier steel vs a lighter graphite. The graphite does have other benefits like reducing vibrations if you have any wrist or elbow ailments, but if you are happy with steel, some of the lighter weight steel might work great for you. Definitely try and get to a fitting if possible and check the 710's out again.
