RZN Golf Balls - by Adtech D&D Corp

I believe Bridgestone produced Nike’s urethane covered models thru either 2008 or 2010 (final models were either the One Platinum/Black or the One Tour/D). The Oven West led by Rock Ishii (who before Nike previously worked for Bridgestone) was their R&D center for balls and did not produce anything for retail.

I recall Nike’s ionomer covered models being produced by the factory formerly known as Fantom (now SM Parker who produces balls for Costco).

It looks like the company that submitted these new RZN balls, Feng Tay Enterprises, produces the majority of Nike’s shoes for all of their brands among others. They do have quite a few US patents for golf balls so it appears they may have been producing the RZN models for Nike from 2011-2016.

All of the items on the USGA list are simply from the conformance testing application that is completed by the submitting company. The submitter may not be the actual company producing the ball nor who is marketing it.

The spin ratings are whatever the submitter lists, not something that the USGA tests for (qualitative descriptors are meaningless without a point of reference anyways).

I bought a dozen of the “RZN Tour” Balls from Walmart. The 3 piece ones.

First off. I cut one open, and the core isn’t resin. They don’t specifically say the 3 piece (ms tour, or RZN tour) is a resin core, but I guess I thought it would be. It’s a normal golf ball core. they specifically state that the HS tour has a resin core, so I’d imagine that’s the case.

With that said, i can definitely see the Nike RZN similarities. The speed lock casting pattern on the mantle is identical, and the cover looks and feels identical to a RZN Platinum I have lying around.

I’ll post pictures tomorrow.

I did have a chance to work with both balls a few days ago. The RZN Tour is a softer golf ball, but didn’t see any distance, control, spin issues. Feel off the putter is very soft The cover does stain from the grass and had decent durability (scuffed up after a few bunker shots). The HS-Tour is definitely more clicky, but a very strong penetrating ball flight. Spin for me into the greens was stop where it lands. This ball reminded me more of the old RZN Tour Black. I still have RZN Tour Platinum, Tour Black, in very limited quantities. Decided to do the old bounce test off the concrete. Every ball had a different sound. Don’t know how much of the old RZN tech is involved with these balls, outside of the 13,588 dimples. Don’t know if that means anything. Both balls preformed well though. I preferred the HS-Tour and will probably get more, but the RZN Tour was way softer than my beloved RZN Tour Platinum, which was a bit softer than that Black. If I get time, I might do like scottland and cut open that HS-Tour ball.

Would love to see the 4 piece ball cut. I actually played some of the last of my stock of Nike RZN Tour Platinums today on a new course. Those were amazing and easily some of my favorite balls to put in play. The logo, number, spin, feel, and appeal was a 10 outta 10. Still haven't found another ball to really replace it but, have been messing with BXS, TP5x, and everything else in between.

Had time to cut the RZN HS-Tour 4 piece golf ball. The core has a pink inner with a clear to light brown colored outer layer(mantle), with a cover. I cannot tell if there is some type of layer between the cover and the first layer. You guys can be the judge but it doesn’t look anything like the old Nike RZN Tour golf ball cutaways. The ball played solidly though. Hard for me to distinguish 4 layers as advertised on the box. Could be a double cover like the Precept golf balls of yesteryear. On the USGA conforming list this ball is listed as 4 piece golf ball with one cover. This was talked about earlier in the thread.

lol these RZN tour balls arent anywhere near the Nike balls, and from these cut aways on this page it seems the 4-piece doesnt even use the checkered molding pattern at all, only the 3-piece does on the first layer - but neither do on the core.

Pretty telling...

I'm not sure I get the engineering behind putting the Resin on the outer core. I thought the reason for the resin core was that it was so much lighter than the rubber cores, so they could redistribute the weight to the outer core and mantle, which made the ball more stable and all that inertia stuff.

I'm guessing the dream of the Nike RZN ball living on is likely dead.

With that said, I do like the 3pc ball. I played a quick 9 with it yesterday. It's a great ball for the price.

Following this thread. The Nike RZN black was arguably the best ball in golf. I hate that it is gone and I have been struggling to find a ball that was close in flight, greenside feel and low spin. If this new ball can close and then hopefully evolve (think pro v1 evolution) then I can put aside the max foo tour x for awhile.

Based on this and having probably 1yr left of Nike RZN Tour Platinums left, I am going to pass on this brand.  Going to try TM TP5, Mizuno Tour, and B330S and call it a day.  I feel like they are using the NIKE marketing and patents to sell the ball, but have watered down its true potential in the manufacturing process for the finished product.  Mentally, insurmountable in my mind. Thanks for this info guys!
