Kids Clubs

I have a son who is 12 years old, plays off handicap 5.2, plays currently US Kids clubs, which he has almost outgrown. He is not a big kid (physically) so he is kind of in between ladies clubs and junior clubs. Just wondering if there are any knowledgable people on this forum regarding what options they would suggest, my thoughts are right now to try and find some nice forged heads and put in a good lightweight shaft and adjust the lie angle. If possible with light"er" gram weight heads so the overall club is not too heavy. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

5'2 currently, club head speed with the driver around 76 mph.

He should be more than able to swing ladies club.

We just got ladies clubs for my 10year old daughter who's 5'0.

I would do something with Game Improvement or Super Game Improvement irons. He lacks a lot of club head speed for a 12 year old. If/when he plays tournaments he is going to be distance challenged. He will need all the distance he can get out of his irons.

My daughter is 12 and is 5 foot and 85 lbs. I got her a set of Cobra F9 ladies irons and had them cut down to the 60” spec for US kids. You could do the same with any women’s set. You could buy new or used. Callaway pre owner may be a good route to go. I’ve been told that they will cut them down for you.

Thanks guys for your comments, yes I am actually looking for some good quality heads and then will stick in a lightweight shaft probably around 45-50 grams, cut them down to specs and adjust the lie angles to wherever he is at if he hits a growth spurt. Definitely a shaft with a low kick point to get the ball more height.

The Cobra F9’s that I got for my daughter have a recoil 450 ES shaft and they are 52g. She has never had a problem with them. I’m sure there are companies out there with lighter heads. Check out the Callaway XR steelhead irons with women’s shafts. They are known for being light weight

Her swing speed must really be up there. My daughter isn't there yet at 4'7", but it's coming.

I recently bought a used ladies F9 5W (Global Golf was having a fire sale on ladies gear) to give to my daughter as a future birthday gift, as she'll be 9 in the fall. Even after swapping out the 55g shaft for a 43g 38" shaft and removing the head weight, it still seemed like she would need until the first of the year to grow into it... which is fine, the club can wait.

Out of curiosity, I compared it to her Prodi g fairway and the ladies F9 was a good bit heavier. I was pretty shocked by this. She hits the Prodi g well, so the need isn't pressing--unless you ask her little brother, who is eager to put her fairway into his own bag.

I think the F9 5w is a few grams heavier than F7’s. My kid is almost 4’2” and swings the F7 ladies 5w fine.

I'll still give it to her on her birthday. The weight difference between the F9 fairway and Prodi g was definitely a big surprise to me, though.

F7 ladies 5w is 199g without adapter, SZ men’s 5w is 204g. Did you get a chance to weigh the prodigy?

I just weighed both clubs, f9 speedback with stock shafts, weights and lengths... the speedback is 32g heavier than the prodi g.
