Prizm Road vs. Golf/Dark Golf

The light transmission percentages with Prizm are slightly different as they are engineered to allow certain light wavelengths through.

To me the darkest lens I own is Prizm Black Polarised and it is one of the lowest light transmission yet it performs much better than a regular black lens does in most lights.

I get migraines if I don't wear sunglasses with any bight light so that started me off on the Oakley bandwagon, I also own a lot of pairs of ski goggles and lenses too!

How do you think prizm Black non polarized would work for golf?

Easy answer I don't know. I can wear my Prizm Black Polarised at the range later if you want.

I purchased another pair of Radars; Prizm Field and for Texas sun to me this is by far the best lens. They are great for running and cycling too.

Yeah for sure. I have the Prizm Black but I haven't managed to get them in yet. Looking for something that works great for golf and isn't too dark but also isn't too light where they look weird off the course

Field is the one then.

I used my Prizm Black Polarised at the range on Thursday with blue sky and a few times I lost the ball with more than a 7 iron in the air, never do that with the field.

I wanted to follow up in the thread. I’ve been using a pair of Prizm Field for the last 2 months. It took me about 2 weeks to get used to them. I think most of that was getting used to wearing a prescription on the course. I think they are perfect for golf. They have not been too dark for me even on overcast days. Green reading has not been a problem at all and grain is a lot easier to see now with the glasses. Tracking the ball in the air is fantastic as is finding balls in the rough. I could not be more impressed and want to thank everyone for the recommendation.

for comparison, I have a pair of Maui Jim with dark grey polarized lenses that I wear all the time. I really struggle with them on the course and even more so on the greens.

Hi all.  I've got a few questions about the golf, dark, and field lenses...

For a bit of background, I've got prescription G30s that I really like and have had for a long time, but since my eyes have changed a bit, it was time for new lenses.  I ordered a pair with the prizm golf.  I like having a lighter tint since it allows me to not have to change glasses even if it is cloudy, the sun is setting, or I go into the clubhouse.  I recently got my prizm golf glasses and the tint is very weird... as you can see from the attached image, the rose tint on the two lenses doesn't cover a whole lot of the lenses and it is in different places, so when I look through the glasses, I get a weird effect because an object can have a rose tint in one eye and yellow tint in the other.  I'm assuming this offset in the location of the rose tint is a manufacturing error, but is it normal for the prizm golf lenses to only have the rose base tint in the middle(ish) and not cover the entire lens?

If that is the norm, I might need to get a different lens... so, the related questions are:

How dark are the golf dark lenses?  Are they too dark to wear into the clubhouse, at dusk, on cloudy days, etc?  And do they have the same "ring" around the lens that has a different color tint?

As for the prizm field, how dark are they and do they also have a tint color change across the lens?

Thanks in advance for any information that you can give me.

I have the prescription golf dark. They are not so dark that they cannot be worn at dusk, indoors and on cloudy days. No issues here with varying colors in the lenses.

Damn, they left you hangin'! Did you sort it out? I love my Prizm golf but just had Prizm road come in today for brighter days  I also love a few Tifosi sets for specific purposes with just straight tinted lenses for cost. Oaks run things though for contrast and green reading!

I ended up going with the golf dark lenses... apparently something with the way the regular golf lenses are made causes them to potentially have that weird tint issue when they are prescription.  I talked with an optometrist that dealt with oakleys a lot and he said of all the prizm lenses the golf dark was the only one where he'd never seen the tint issues and he thinks it is because the coating on the golf dark is different than the other prizm lenses.  I generally like the golf dark... they are a tiny bit darker than I might like, but I can still wear them pretty much all the time when I'm playing golf, even if I go into the proshop or have to look in the woods for a lost ball.
