T200 vs AP3 - Differences from anyone that's gamed them both

Recommended Posts

Moving on from 0211, mostly due to my dislike in launch from elevate tour shaft. Still gaming i15's. Looked at a set of t200 and loved the feel of PX 6.0 LZ shafts. I'm not even sure you can custom order AP3's anymore. Didn't know if t200 was worth extra coin though.

I've hit both and I didn't love them personally, but I can see why many people would enjoy using either one. The AP3 was your classic game improvement, but the T200 to me was like playing a utility iron almost, and took it to another level. If you can go stock shafts and lies, you can find some good deals on the internet for the AP3s. Otherwise, it's T200.

And if you really want to get silly, check out the T300. Sure, you can hit your 7 iron 365 yards, but once you get over that I was left wondering... but why?... because people like silly things like really really long mid-irons... and maybe some help in the long irons for sane people.

I think the T200 is a competitor for the p790, but unlike the p790 (which is just a silly distance clickbait club), the T200 provides consistent distances and can blend into a mixed set of Titleist irons really well.

I play the T200 now. I never owned the AP3, but I tested them extensively. My previous set were 716 TMB which I found performed similar to AP3 when I tested those. I didn't buy AP3 just due to the fact that I found them to be a little hard and loud. But the performance itself was outstanding. Not good enough to replace my TMB though.

The T200 is definitely a softer feeling, more muted sounding club. Hitting clubs outdoors is completely different than hitting them indoors in a bay so when I hear people saying they are either hard or loud I typically assume they hit them indoors or they currently play a one piece fully forged club therefore they'd probably feel the same way about other multi material irons. For me the T200 is an excellent feeling club considering only the face is forged. The spin numbers were better for me with the T200 than both my old TMB and the AP3 which was important for me because the spin on those clubs was fairly low(5500 RPM on a 7 iron). I also find I can control the trajectory better with these than my TMB and the AP3. It was difficult to bring the ballflight down on those. I would guess the tungsten weights were a little too low particularly in the short irons.

So I'd say the T200 is a little more forgiving. I'm not sure they are longer. I'd say the distance is about equal. But again for me it feels much better and the profile is much better. And I think you'll be very limited on shafts as I don't think you can order AP3 anymore so it's basically whatever is available at stores.

Bottom line is, as much as we spend on these clubs I'd rather not compromise and spend a few hundred dollars more to get fitted and get exactly what I want. When I do it that way I always keep clubs much, much longer and enjoy them more.

Good luck!

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
