If you love Project X, stick with those in your wedges. If you like hitting smooth wedges, consider going down to 6.0 in the wedges. If you need spin control, just stick with 6.5. Most of the guys I’ve seen who use PX in the irons use PX or Dynamic Gold in the wedges.

I’m a dynamic gold guy, S200, 300 or 400. They are the best wedge shaft for controlling launch and spin for me.

Either have the same PX 6.5s in the wedges, or go with S300/400 I’d say (stock wedge shafts).

As for what wedges to play: the major brands are good. Titleist, Callaway, PING, TaylorMade, Cleveland RTX or their newest version. For me the Mizuno T20s are great, Ishtar want to give those a try too :)

Slapping the ball around a bit, having loads of fun.

If I go to my local golf galaxy, second swing, etc, i assume project x are not stock shafts. Do these have to be custom ordered with extra $?

its hard to believe all wedge stock shafts are stiff / extra stiff? My driver ss ~120 mph, 6 iron ss ~100. I’m also pretty steep and take very big divots with my wedges

It depends what you use your wedges for. I don't personally believe you have to match them to your irons unless you are making the same type of swings. If you are a full swing guy with irons but are always hitting 50% wedge swings, playing a stout wedge shaft might not be necessary or even not feel as good.

My current set i play a GW and SW that i use primarily for full swings , so i match them to my irons which is S300

My LW i use only for chipping, so i feel like i could use most any shaft and be fine. For some reason i've had success with plain old KBS tour, but that could've been just coincidence

There's a reason wedge flex is so common, because lot of guys don't need something as stout in the wedges, its all personal preference. As someone else said if you play PX 6.5 you might like 6.0. I like them heavier though, I play s400 in my wedges.

Project X certainly isn’t stock, but for my Mizunos there wasn’t an upcharge. I would suggest to try keep close to your swingweight, having your irons D1, but your wedges D4 might not be helpful :)

Nearly all wedges are stiff, the Wedge-shafts that Vokey uses are S300, Cleveland is S300, Callaway is S300 iirc. I think TaylorMade uses S300 too :)

Stock “wedge flex” in a vokey is an s200. I can use it in lob and sand wedge, but my gap wedge is a lot more full swings and will obviously feel very different than PX 6.5 or 6.0 . I ended up putting PX 6.0’s in all my wedges 2-3 years ago and have enjoyed that decision. I have been thinking about putting something softer and heavier in my lob wedge again though, for those half swing shots.

I'd go PX 7.0 8 iron shaft in your wedges if you want to stick with PX, not go to 6.0 as it's better to have extra weight. It's all about feel though. I'm playing PX 6.5 right now and using TI S400 in wedges as that's what I prefer. It's all about what fits you though.

Currently playing Mizuno T20 raw 50/07, 55/09/ 59/05 with DG TI S400 shafts. I came from Ping stealth wedges which I loved but needed a bit more control in a smaller footprint. The T20's are incredible. So easy to control spin and play several different shots around the green with ease. The most impressive thing about them is the consistency. You just know what your getting each shot.

With the Pings, I played the KBS 610 wedge shafts in 125g. They were laser pointers but lacked a little feel. DG TI S400s have a little more weight and has the feel i'm looking for

This!!

I did this exact thing and loved the feel and control of the 7.0 8 iron in the wedges....feels noticeably stiffer than the 6.5 in my irons but in a really good, controlled way

If you're a pretty good ball striker...find somewhere to try out your normal iron shaft in your wedges. Wedge shafts were giving me too much spin, my normal ctaper lites gave me good spin, and ability to hit full shots. Doesn't affect my touch shots either.

But PX 6.5's...i used to play those...in wedges? I dunno...got to keep the SW right. Those would be heavy overall. 110's are easier for me to get the heavy SW.

I think weight progression is more important on a wedge shaft. You want something a little bit heavier than your iron shafts

I agree. I've been looking at new irons and considering either the AMT Black or White (both stiff) for 4-PW...

I'm slightly concerned that if I go with Black, it'll be too much of a weight increase from my PW (which would be around 113g) to my 48 which is 130g (DG S300).

The drawback with White (which the PW would be approx. 127g) is that I would get a lower ball flight with my irons, but the weighting would be closer to my wedges, and thus, not such a "drastic" change from PW to 48.
