Golf Trip to Pinehurst in October 2020 - Possibility of booking tee times(?)

Hi y'all,

A group of 4 of us, myself included, are heading down to Pinehurst, NC for a fall golf trip. We originally had planned out to stay off-resort in an AirBNB to mitigate some costs, but realized that in order to guarantee tee times at No. 2 and No. 4 we'd need to stay at the resort. That being said, we could always risk trying to solidify tee times day of, but we're not sure what the odds are. Apparently the other courses shouldn't be too much of a problem. We're also interested in playing some non-Pinehurst Resort courses, too.

Does anyone know what the likelihood of getting on No. 2 / No. 4 would be on a weekday in October if you're not staying at the resort?

Would appreciate any and all feedback!

It's pretty tough to get a foursome on #2 and #4. The other courses will be no problem. If you have your heart set on playing both of those you might want to stay on property. I've never had an issue getting on but that's just as a single or twosome. Also the cradle is the same way.

I would think your chances of a foursome to get a tee time at number 2 and 4 would be very low especially in October. They only allow you to book on those two plus the cradle within 24 hours. The other courses are 5 days in advance.

I know tobacco road travel doesn't offer tee times for Pinehurst. They do have a bunch of other great courses though.

gonna be pretty tough, i played a few weeks ago and booked #2 with hotel reservation a month out and there were only 2 spots left open for 2somes. 4 also seemed to be booked solid that day, and that was in their "slower" summer season. i would just bite the bullet and do one night at their hotel to make sure you get a time.

I agree with others that think it will be extremely difficult to get tee times at both #2 and #4. I think a lot of people (myself and friends of mine) who had a trip booked at the resort earlier this year rescheduled to the fall. I expect it to be very busy when we are there in September.

Quick update: we're staying at a local AirBNB and will be playing neighboring courses (e.g., Tobacco Road) for the first few days. We decided to cash in on the Donald Ross Package and will stay at the resort Thursday-Saturday.

The best part?

We got morning tee times for No. 2, No. 4, and No. 8!

If you have an open day give Mid Pines a try.  I’ve played all the tracks up there and understand wanting to play 2 and 4.  2,4, and 8 are all amazing tracks, but there is something special about Mid Pines.  It so underrated, just a gem and my favorite track in the area. If you’re into Ross tracks Southern Pines is another really special layout.  The folks that own Pine Needle and Mid Pines recently purchased it and now its getting the love it deserves.  It was Ross’s first design in the Pinehurst area.

yes! i believe we're going over to mid pines the wednesday before we head over to pinehurst!

Sorry for the late update, but wanted to happily report a successful Pinehurst trip (highly recommend).

 

Some takeaways:

- Play The Cradle if you're able to

- Do NOT sleep on Thistle Dhu, I regret not being able to play all 18 holes
