Trouble with high block and low hooks. Lefty

GOLFTEC ClubhouseTook a lesson with GolfTec, but couldn’t afford to continue lessons. My miss right now is a high left block or I get quick with the hands and hit a hook. It looks to me like my hands have no where to go right before impact as my lower half is moving so fast. What is the fix here?

For those curious, the instructor had me working on getting my hands around my body after impact.

Your hands push outward at your takeaway, which makes the shaft very flat. You're a good player so you know the shaft is too flat at the top, so you drop your left shoulder to keep from coming in too steep. When you drop your left shoulder (or pull your right one up, same deal), that drops the club behind you and makes you slide. When you slide, the club is too far behind you, and you get the two-way miss. I know this because I work on the same issues (and I'm a lefty too).

Takeaway-- hands slightly in, club out, with what feels like a very early set to get the club to hinge more vertically.

Learn to slightly shallow the club in transition-- you should feel like your left wrist bows slightly as your first move while your right shoulder stays down in transition. This way, you'll be able to rotate, side less, and not hit pulls. Another great feel is feeling like your pressure goes down and not forward in the transition. But you have to get the shallowing right along with this.

No, your shoulder rotation angle is fine. It's a takeaway issue that leads to the chain reaction of other issues. Keep it simple.

Worked on the takeaway here, as unorthodox as it felt I could still set a little sooner. This ball still started a hair left.

Looks great! Work on keeping your right shoulder down as long as possible to get the shaft to come "out" instead of down so much. It's a gradual process.
