Talk about an overhype...golfwrx really helped TM on this one.  The pics posted here are spectacular.  You get super excited.  Then you get your hands on the demo irons and first thing you want to do is get a towel to wipe everyone else's grubby prints off.  Perhaps hand sanitizer makes matters worse for looks???

As a previous owner of the first irons sets to sport the cool look of horizontal lines across the cavity, the Hiro Matsumoto's from back in the day, I have always liked this look.  Funny thing about the HMs.  Those irons were gorgeous, there was the bulk in the low center behind the sweet spot.  Hit anything too much off center and you will lose a lot of yards.  Fast forward what?  15 years?  Time flies... (speaking of which is time really flying or is there multiple SI swimsuit issues released per year??? I can't believe it is already time for another one!  But I digress...). Anyway, the P7MC, similar design, and guess what?  Not forgiving off the toe, you will lose yards big time.

The MBs look ok.  I mean, sure, good, design, clean lines, but a bit bulky for a MB, not Titleist TMB bulky, but not Titleist 680 either.  So if a blade player says these are forgiving, sure, but not for a 10 hcp'r, those of you in that boat...resist the beauty, play something game friendly.  Which brings me back to the MC...for the 10+...maybe even 8 hcpr, resist the coolness of the forged in logo, yes that is cool when shined up, and just go to P770.

Now there is a winner, the P770.  I hit 10 shots of the P7MC, about 3 of them were to toe side, and that cost me 10-15 yards.  That would be typical over the course of a round.  I hit 10 shots with P770, and if something was more towards toe, no real loss of distance, just hurts on dispersion.

And FWIW, the P770 looks better and feels better than the P790.  It's a winner for sure.  I do want a set, could be a lot of fun.  Although, not looking forward to re-engineering wedge gaps.

I’m kind of falling into this trap right here. 6 handicap and know the 770’s would probably be better for my game but I know I’m going to then regret not getting the 7MC’s.
I’m moving from the 790’s which I’ve really started to hate the feel of despite them being forgiving and a great golf club.
still waiting to try out the Mizuno s but really hate how everything is going stronger lofts. The 4 irons are similar to my rescue and it leaves bigger degree gaps at the scoring end of the bag.

I decided today I really missed that soft forged feel.

Few will be disappointed with the P770's and I may very well change my mind on the sale ?

Did TM let you make adjustments to your order?

Ordered through DD. They didn’t seem to think there would be an issue. Not supposed to ship until late October, so not sure why there would be.

That’s why you need to get both! 7MC for the feel and 770 to get you back on track when striking is veering off track. You can then also combo them whenever you like. I’m just talking myself into getting both haha.

I have played five rounds with the 770’s. I also have a set of 100’s.  The. 770’s are about a half club shorter (makes sense with the loft differences ).  The feel is solid. I feel like thin shots get punished a lot more than the 100’s.  I had a hard time hitting low shots under a tree.  The 8,9, and PW are a lot better than the 790’s.  I didn’t like the feel of the 790 short irons.
Overall. I see myself taking these over the 100’s.  I will them even more blending the MC’s into the lower portion of the set.

I ordered a split set of 790 4-6i and the 770 7-PW, I just got a notification that the 790 shipped and a email from the place I got fitted that the 770 are now back ordered till Nov!  The place I got fitted said everything will ship together when the 770 are released, then they were delayed two more weeks, now they are due in when the golf season in my area is over.  They did offer a discount if I wanted to keep my 770 order, at this point I have to keep it because they are fitted and everything adjusted to make the 790 and 770 gaps work and the 790 are on the way....

A heavier grip only changes the SW scale to show less....not the actual SW!  The SW scale is based upon a std weight (50g) grip.

Remove the shaft and then apply lots of heat to the hosel to remove the TM hosel bullet weight and then reshaft with a tip weight to get the correct SW.

Been there and done that many times.

What is a hosel bullet weight?  I tried a websearch but didn't see anything.  Thanks!

Sounds the the 100s were longer, felt at least as good if not better, and are more versatile,  and forgiving, but you are choosing 770?

I'm a 7 handicap and took the plunge on ordering PW-8 P7MB and 7-5 P7MC and the feel is ridiculous. The P7MC feel and forgiveness is as good if not better than any iron I've ever hit. And I have owned a fair few.

Weights that TM uses to SW their irons.  Has an o-ring that when the weight is pushed down to the bottom of the hosel it stays and will not come out except by melting the o-ring with alot of heat.

They come in varying weights and make it easy to SW the iron by TM or Pro Builders.

The 100’s were only more forgiving on thin shots.  I felt the 770’s were overall more forgiving.  I am going towards the 770’s because Of the playability in the 4,5,6 and 7.  I think that is why I will blend in the MC’s in the lower send to give me more feel on those short irons.   I also notice less distance gap between the two as I get to the 4,5, and 6 (lofts are closer).

I will offer this disclaimer. There is a good chance I will keep both or get rid of the 100’s only to buy another set in 4-5 months when I miss them.

If I have the P790 4-AW from 2018....can I blend in the new 770's? I'd like to keep 4-7 P790 and then blend in 8-AW P770. Is that possible?

Yes Mike,

I would recommend ordering the P770 in the same shaft, lie and maybe 1-1.5 degrees stronger. Then check gapping on a launch monitor with your P790 and have them tweeked accordingly.

why would the p770s feel any different? Aren’t they both hollow bodied with speed foam?

OK, thanks.  I always thought it was a regular tip weight and the tip was breaking off inside when removing shafts.  Do you have a link to where that type can be bought?  I haven't been able to find them online.j

7MCs a lot harder to hit than the 760s 7MCs were like hitting a blade.

Have to disagree with this. i was playing Mizuno jpx 919 forged and they felt harder to hit that my new P7MC. Guess its down to personal opinion and feel. best thing to do is go and test.

Ended up picking up a set of stock P770 this past weekend. I’ve been in the market of replacing some 9 year old Coba S3 Pro MB that were getting long in the tooth and looking for something that could give some forgiveness as the amount of golf I play is down.

Played on Sunday and here are some thoughts:

1. They are definitely not the best feeling irons in the world and took some time to get used to the short irons from a feel perspective

2. Besides the feel, the transition over to the short irons was really pretty great. They flew a touch further, had great turf interaction, and just want to fly straight. Another big thing with the short irons is they are not unwieldy long.

3. Not surprisingly, misses were not punished as badly as with a set of MBs - saved one really bad swing for the round.

4. Decent workability. Was able to play a low hook with an 8 iron to get a ball back in play and a low cut 4 iron. My expectation was that I’d give most of that up with these irons, but was pleasantly surprised.

5. Where these really shine are the 4-6 irons. I got proper gapping with these irons that I’ve probably never had. Optimistic that it could significantly improve game from 185-215 yards out.

Like with anything there are trade-offs, and if you’re willing to sacrifice some feel for generally better performance without significant loss in playability these are a great offering.

I can definitely see the appeal of a blended bag of MC/MB in the short irons and P770 in the 4-6 or 4-7
