Taylormade P7MC and P770 2020

I bought a set of 6-PW P-7MC’s from the GolfWRX classifieds and they were delivered yesterday. They have Project X 6.5 shafts and are +1/2” long. Swing weight Was surprisingly high at D7 so when I get around to cutting them down down to my preferred length of +1/4” the swing weight will be closer to what I am accustomed to playing.

I did a quick comparison to my T100 irons and the top line is a bit thinner in the T100 and the sole is noticeably thinner in the P-7MC. The top line is more square on the 7MC so the rounded T100 probably just gives it a thinner appearance. I will post some comparison pics later today.

There is no denying how good the 7MC’s look and I’m excited to hit them.

Does anyone know if TM’s measurements are with the grip on? The set I purchased was sold as +1/2” long and that is what I am getting with the grip installed which makes them roughly 3/8” long.

To follow up on my previous post about swing weights, the P-7MC must just be heavy heads. I cut them down to +1/4" over standard and the swing weight is D5. I pulled the PW head and there was no tip weight. I don't mind it as I build my irons to D4 it won't be a noticeable difference.

Jer - that probably means the heads aren’t necessarily heavy if they swingweight at D3 at standard length

I am comparing to other sets that I have built recently (mainly Titleist) and I have needed 6-8g tip weights in some cases to get them to D4. I wonder if TM has lighter heads for over length builds? Obviously, it's easier to add weight via tip weights than remove the weight so I understand why OEM's do it.

P7MCs are basically blades with baby cavity

I noticed mine were a touch heavy, but my SW came in perfect. I think they have a very heavy hit though, they are SO solid

I sold them drunk to my mate who took them out of my bag there and then. I live in regret. Currently looking at ordering the 790s. If difference was 3-5 yards I can live with that, a full club...not so much

I have the 770 in my long irons

I think the 5,6 might be a little less hot than the 790, but not any more than the loft difference. I'm finding the 770 is going plenty far, Even the P7MCs are going a long ways in my opinion

I saw the new offerings yesterday,  I hit the MC 5i and 770 4i outdoors.  MC feels amazing,  the 770 had a clicky feeling but I liked the ball flight.  TM has a winner with these!

Got fitted for the first time ever last weekend and came in to the fitting wanting to combo the P770s and P7MCs. Play off a 5 HDCP but my iron striking has been up and down. For context, pulled the trigger on 2017 P790s couple years ago w/ Modus 120S (after coming from JPX 900 HMs w/ Modus 105S) and that shaft was a horrible fit for me and the low-spin P790 heads. Couldn't get the ball up and my carry distances were destroyed. Sold the P790s a few months ago and have been playing my $100 set of PING Eye 2+ since (which still get the job done, best irons ever made possibly).

Fitter had me in the Project X LZ 6.0 with the P770s and my carry was almost 10 yards longer than with P790 even with the weaker lofts (I'd argue it was mostly due to the Modus 120 being a horrible fit for my swing). However, tried LZ 6.0 in P7MCs and the distance loss on bad strikes was punishing compared to P770s. P7MCs are beautiful, but the tiny topline coupled with my lack of speed didn't inspire any confidence behind the ball. Going P770s all the way thru (4-PW). Ordering +0.5" and will be interesting to see what SW comes back as. Still not set on LZ 6.0s either, going to try some more shafts in the 105-115g range as I've been getting along really well with the old ZZ Lites in my Eye2+'s. Thinking maybe C-Taper Lites or back to the Modus 105s, but just booked a second fitting with a different fitter to confirm.

Ok, this makes me feel a little better, although I have been 4 different videos now and gaps are from 8-14 yards on a 7 iron. I feel that 2* of loft would maybe account for 3-5 yards.

As for my back up plan of the 790s, I've noticed today they have disappeared from most of the UK retailer websites, and of the few that list them, most only offer the stock set....is it worth any rumours?

Does anyone have the new P770 3 iron (even 4 iron) in hand and available for pictures from address? Just ordered a combo set with P770 3i-5i and would be interested to see what the longer irons look like at address, thank you!

I have a 3 iron on order but this is my 4 iron.

and I couldn’t love these clubs any more than I do, I play the 790s before but these I feel are just as forgiving and I’m actually gaining distance with these . it’s probably because I’m just swinging better but They are so sweet

Wow! This looks like my cup of tea......may I ask, how far are you hitting this club and is it higher than your previous 4i?

I played the 790’s for two years and demo’d the 770’s for only about 20 minutes. You really think these are as forgiving as the 790’s. If so, I would buy immediately. Hitting off mats just doesn’t do them justice.

Can anyone comment on forgiveness between the MC and the MB? I’ve had several ppl tell me there isn’t much difference at all.

in my fitting I did notice any difference at all to be honest. 7i strikes were the same on good and bad shots, within like .5 yds. I play of a 0.1 HCP FYI if that helps to interpret my statement. I went with 4&5 770 and 6-PW MC like my 770/750 combo now.

I honestly feel like when I put the club behind the ball it just suits my eye that much better. The 790s are just so big and I really feel so much better hitting the 770s, I would have more mess hits with the 790s then I do with the 770s so they are more forgiving for me

If you like the MCs, don’t be afraid to go full set. I intended to get a blended set with the 770 at the top, but at my fitting was told that I wouldn’t have an issue going full MC. Pulled the trigger and am glad I did. Went 5-P. 5 is not hard to hit. For reference, I swing between 10-12 hdcp, but consider iron play the best part of my game.

4i of the 770......higher noted flight in stock shaft offering?

I didn't hit the MC 4i so my barometer is how I hit my current 4i (2014 Apex with i110 shaft),  the ball flight was a tad lower and more piercing.

inwent with MCs std lofts and 770 5i weak and 4i std to close the gap to my 5w a little more. Will see if I might end up bending the 4i weak as well at one point.

5 iron

Went with the combo set with P770 in 5 and 6 iron (standard lofts) and P7MC 7-PW (1 degree strong).  Irons look great.  The difference in size between the two models is not much.  Slighter more offset on the P770 and slightly more offset.  Wont be able to use them for several weeks with no Golf here until late October.
