Exactly how I fell. Ordered a P790/P770 combo set. The P790 came a couple weeks ago and the P770 are pushed back till November.......... I guess I can say I am really enjoying the 3 P790 clubs so far.... haha

It makes me more bitter about the P770 being so far and well after the golf season is over here.....

Yeah, what is even the point of having a pre-order and release in the fall if 1) you can't fulfill orders by release day and/or 2) even if you could fulfill orders by release day, cold weather customers can only use the clubs for a month before their seasons end? But that's a moot point now that we know TM couldn't deliver most orders on release day. Most people who pre-ordered and have still not received their orders will likely receive their sets in November (or later), sit on them for a few months, and won't be able to bust their blue balls until weather permits in spring 2021.

For the record, I pre-ordered P770 3-PW on 8/21 and was initially quoted mid-Oct delivery. That's now been pushed back to mid-Nov. Fortunately I'm in SoCal and will be able to use them right away, but I feel bad for anyone in cold weather climates being dicked around.

How is the p770 3-iron treating you?

Is it easy to hit like a utility iron or more like a traditional cb?

Ordered the p7mb 5-perfect yesterday but unsure what I will use to fill the 3 and 4 iron slot. I was thinking p770 4-iron and p790 3 iron.

This video might help you put aside some of your fears. Waiting on my 770s that I cranked up stronger by 1* too since I was worried about losing distance. Can't speak to turf interaction yet due to backorder issues (smh...), but since Apex 19 and P790 were similar performers for me, I'm thinking/hoping changing the lofts to stronger would make performance more similar to P790 but just in a better looking package - which the TXG guys pretty much confirm by equalizing lofts (28* 6iron).  I've heard changing lofts more than 2* can really start affecting bounce though, so maybe be cautious there. But if distance gapping is your primary worry, I think you should be good up to 2* stronger.

Great video, I kept checking YT for more

Comparisons and missed this, they did exactly what I wanted and compared at same spec. This has put my mind at ease, I still may go 790 3-8 and 770 9-AW bent strong

This isn’t just going to be a Taylormade problem. It’s looking like Mizuno are going to be delivering 8 weeks after ordering here in Australia. It’s unfortunate but we just have to be patient which is easier said than done!

The more popular the product, the longer the wait times and this Taylormade line are going to be very popular.

Mizuno release was much better, times have been as stated.

In Australia?
I thought I would have pulled the plug by now but don’t see the point in rushing to decide when there is such a backlog. I’m thinking I may as well wait to see how the new Callaways perform

For those who have hit both, how does the forgiveness of the P770s compare to the P7MCs? Also curious, if anybody has tried all three, where the JPX 921 Tours would fit in compared to those two.

I can give you a good breakdown.

in order of least enjoyable to me to most

770

921

7-MC

launch - highest to low

770/921 (lofts being equal they’re probably the same window) but overall the 921 was about one launch window higher than the 7-MC

Forgivness - most to least

770

921

7-MC

770’s would lose only a few yards, maybe 1/2 club on thin or mishits

921/7-MC were about a full club on mishits or thin respectively

feel - firm to soft (Subjectively)

770

7-MC

921

770 a bit more of a firmer or slightly More pop off the face

7-MC felt amazing and the largest discrepancy between when you flush it and when you don’t

921 Tour was the softest across most Of the face

Spin - lowest to high, same shaft and ball tested

770

7-MC

921

Can't comment on the 921's, but between the 770 and 7MC this is very accurate IMO.

This is an awesome breakdown, thanks for taking the time to share it. The P7MCs tick every box for me in terms of the looks and characteristics you're describing except forgiveness, so maybe a P770 combo on the longer irons is the route I should go.

Hi Eric

They’re forgiving as it relates to a club of that style (CB/MC) but realistically they did lose about 4mph ball speed on mishits which is about that 8 yards carry or 12 yards overall.

I liked them, my buddy loves the 7-MC which I helped him source.

My cousin who was top 20 in his club champs gross and about a 5 cap went full 770, my buddy who is about a 7 went 4/5 770 and 6-P to MC.

Lots of options - which speaks to how good this line actually is.

If my 921’s were any more delayed I would have gone 7-MB full for myself as I found the MB to launch a bit higher with more spin which it should do, with similar forgiveness as the MC.

For anyone wanting a bit lower spin and to lower their apex 7-MC is 100% the ticket exiting 2020 lines.

Received an update from Discount Dan's regarding my P770 order: expected shipping date moved back from 9/30 to 10/21.

DD apologized profusely and offered to allow me to cancel my order, but I really want the irons so I declined to cancel; delays are just a fact of life during this time.

I initially ordered P790 cuze i dont wanna wait for the P770. After I compared both irons side by side, decided P770 fits my eye better.

For those of who ordered P770/P790 combo, what did you go with? i'm thinking either P790 (4I)+P770 (5-P) or P790 (4-5) + P770(6-P)

my shop only has 7 iron for demo, so i wouldn't know how good/ bad i can hit the 4& 5 iron. Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

I had a really good session at the range with my MCs. Hitting them much better now and back to what I was when I got fitted with the 7 iron.

They don't launch as high as my AP2's unless I really flush them. Still good hits though and they do go further. Quite noticeable on the range I use which has big boards at various markers. When you flush these things you cant help get a big grin!

I'm still not convinced on 4&5 iron yet, might swap them out for P770, but if my improvement with them keeps going then who knows. At the moment, I would be real worried hitting the 4 or 5 iron out any kind of rough with a tree or obstacle infront.

I would opt for 4-6 in P790 and 7-AW in P770.  The added forgiveness of the 6i in P790 was a huge plus over 770.

Just a random post here, I saw a set of P7MC at PGA SS today and those suckers are small.  I grabbed an 8 iron and put it at address and I swear it looks a good bit smaller than my staff model blades.  Glad I went with the P770....if they ever get here.

I finally got my set built with the exception of the 4 iron which I am waiting on the ferrule to be delivered. I decided to go P770 4-6 and 7-PW MC.

My initial indoor testing with the P-770 gave me good numbers and solid ball speed. I just didn’t love the feel. On the course, it was a different story. Not as satisfying as the MC but not offensive or unplayable to me.

I have always put a premium on feel when it comes to irons and I hit the ball plenty far enough where strong lofted clubs do not interest me. For that reason, the P790 never appealed to me. With the weaker lofts and smaller profile, the P770 peaked my interest.

I initially bought a set of 6-PW in the P-7MC  and ended up completing the set by adding the P770 in 4-6 iron. 6 iron is typically the spot in the bag where I lose a bit of confidence which is why I opted to go 770 in the 6 instead of the MC.

I went out for 9 holes yesterday for my first round with the clubs and was very pleased with the irons. The MC’s feel as good as anything that I’ve ever hit and look amazing at address and in the bag.

I have been scoring in the 38-40 range over 9 holes with my T100 irons and would have been right there again had I not hit a massive block that ended up in the water on the 4th hole.

On the 3rd hole (par 5) I missed the fairway to the left and had a tree between my ball and the flag. The pin was tucked on the left side of the green and I had to hit a 30 or so yard draw. I pulled the P770 5 iron and worked it a bit too much right to left but it was nice to see how easy I was able to hit that shot.

I definitely noticed a stronger, more piercing flight in the MC’s than what I get from my T100’s. The longest iron I had into a green where I actually hit the green was an 8 and the ball hit and released about a foot. Of course, I’m still in the honeymoon phase and I only have 9 holes under my belt but I am pleased so far.

Here are a couple of comparison pics of the P770, 7MC and T100 6 irons before they hit the classifieds.

I guess me needing a shaft they didn't stock was a blessing after reading all these comments. Although I bought a set with the stock KBS and then bought the shafts I wanted. Had mine in less than 2 weeks from order date. I have to say they are very enjoyable irons. I feel like its the perfect size for what I wanted and the feel is amazing. About as happy I have been with a iron purchase since my Mizuno MP52s years ago.

After two range sessions and one 18-hole round, I'm sad to report that I'm going to be listing my P770's on the BST. They are excellent irons, but they are not for me. I bought them on a whim just to see how they'd work out, but as someone who has only ever played solid, single-piece forged irons, I can't get used to the feel. They also fly further than in used to, and I don't want to have to re-gap my wedges.

I think the 770's are perfect for anyone that had been playing cast or hollow-body irons. I'm just not that person.

Im tempted to buy a used set and cancel my order! But I actually got a real good deal thru a TM connection, so I really cant complain about the wait. What shaft did you get? And what kind of yardage increases were you seeing from these vs. Your gamers?

I have no idea when my 770's are coming originally it was october then november...but who the heck knows now.  TM sent me a $25 credit/gc this weekend via email to i guess compensate for the delay....i wish they'd just kept the $25 b/c now I'll feel compelled to spend it on something else i don't need that I'll wait months to get.

I ordered mix set of 3-5 MC and 6-P MB's.  The set is not standard due to length, lie and loft, however, the set wont arrive until late November.  My club pro is stating that the delay is strictly from the MC being backordered.....great.....

I got that same email with a $25 credit and they have already sent a free dozen TP5x. Had pre-ordered P7MC in August that will supposedly get here mid November when I probably won't use them more than a few times until spring at this point. Had hoped to get some more time to test them out vs my T100 because I don't need both sets.
