2021 US Kids Worlds

Recommended Posts

We withdrew - Went last year had a great family vacation and was really looking forward to it again. Its a long and expensive trip (coming from CA) for the family and with the fields being so small, parade cancelled, team challenge cancelled, dealing with social distancing rules on the course and more specifically off the course the value isn't there for us. If we lived closer where we could drive I'd probably do it, but hoping this all calms down and we can go next year.

We are still making the trip from Texas. Actually I went to RWB there as well. Yes the fields are MUCH smaller about 1/2 the size in my daughter's age group but it is what it is. We stay in a Condo off one of the courses out there as I prefer peace and quite. A lot of the kids playing are kids in the area in her age group I think there is ONE kid from Cali which is very odd, only international kids are from Canada and Mexico but they could live in the US. I know other family's who WD because they can't really compete and go for the experience/vacation point of view. Just a matter if you find value in it during this crazy time we are living in.

( I know you asked who IS going, but...) We withdrew. My son was dissapointed, but I hope he understood. We were less worried about covid directly, but indirectly it would of been a pretty lousy "vacation" for my wife and 2 younger daughters with no pool and no where to reasonably go to hang out. Its an expensive trip for them to be holed up in the hotel for 5 days. Thought about going with just my son, but we did that for State and RWB (both in Pinehurst) already this summer. Tough decision and dissapointing for me as well. This would of been his 5th time anyway, so that kind of helped the decision. Will press on and hope to be back in 2021. Good luck and have fun to all of you making the trip.

Been texting with a few buddies whose kids are playing , 9 year old Boys at Pinehurst # 1. Reports seem good, course is playing good, perhaps a little long. When we were up there for the RWB regional a month ago you never would of known a pandemic. Most people did OK job, but the place was packed and rockin! USKG did a great job in my opinion for Red White Blue with good covid protocols. I am sure the same for worlds, if not even better.

Local director told me there are 1500 kids this year instead of the normal 2000. No real international presence as one would expect. My daughter is playing number 5 and it’s in good shape. It was lift-clean-place yesterday but we played it down today. Greens were really quick in the practice round but have slowed down each day. Balls are really checking when you chip especially into the grain. Really have to know how to read greens as far as the grain goes. We aren’t used to that so it’s a big change for us.

Hi guys,

I'm relatively new to all of this, my son 8 has started playing comps here in Ireland, we don't have a US kids tour in the South of Ireland and I am wondering how you can qualify for the World Champs without such a tour.

At the moment he is shooting 4 - 8 over on a shortened course in tournaments. (similar length to US Kids)

What level of priority status usually gets you qualified for PineHurst, I think my son can get level 4 through verified scores.

Regards

IrishDad

I could be wrong but the lowest level I heard getting in was an 8.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Does anyone have insight as to how large the fields will likely be at Worlds this year?  Will any additional players be added other than those already invited?

I don't know the numbers, but you can look at past results by year and get a count.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

You can see the field by going here:

https://foundation.uskidsgolf.com/tournaments/world/find-tournament/504808/world-championship-2021/field

They will invite people until they can't. Not sure they have a hard count. If going off of past year's for counts I look at 2019 and earlier using last year give you a bad idea as the fields were pretty small in comparisons..

Here's what I don't get... why is it a thing for coaches to go to US Kids Worlds with their students and caddie for them?  Seen this a lot over the past few years.

I don’t know why a coach would go, but from a parent’s POV, a coach is probably a better caddie than Dad. And I’m sure all parents want their kids to do well at worlds.

They are totally clueless because there making the kid totally dependent on coaches for everything.

There is no reason.

of course there’s a reason. Quoting from The Godfather, “it’s strictly business”

You don’t fly a coach in to move up the leaderboard and finish middle of the pack. You fly the coach in to WIN.

Coaching elite juniors is a big business. Success breeds success. Having a kid who wins big national event can help generate potential business for coaches.

For parents, success at age 8 must project long-term future success right? 🙂 Am I right?

Then social media just magnifies all of these.

winning the us kids worlds means nothing when it comes to be successful in the PGA or LPGA.  There is no way to know if that kid will be any good at 18.

if a kid needs a coach on their bag to win then there not good enough to make it. There also not seeing the better coaches who teach players how to self analyze.
