How do you find golfing friends?

Recommended Posts

Start playing the same courses around the same time and you will start to run into the same people more often.

Or join a club. If a more social atmosphere is what you are looking for when golfing a club is seriously something to consider if affordable. You will have more golf friends than you can keep up with.

A lot of courses will have some sort of league night that you can walk on at, or just generally wherever you spend time you’re bound to meet fellow golfers to play with

Local driving range. If you're a regular, you will see some of the same people there regularly who are practicing with intent to improve. Watch them hit and you can gauge their skill level, assuming you'd want to play with someone of like skill. Then just introduce yourself one day. I've met a few cool golfers/friends that way and have gone on to play with in rounds, scrambles, tournaments, 2-ball scrambles, etc.

Some great suggestions already but to add to them would be to call the pro at a course you want to play and tell them you are new in town and want meet some new golf buddies. Probably would not work at a top tier private, but any good daily fee would be a good bet. If you sound normal and enthusiastic, you can probably find a few to play with this way. Other way would be to go to local golf retailers and try to start a conversation up and see where it leads. Harder in current environment but if you are willing to introduce yourself, you should have no trouble. Also don't forget to talk to employees. They obviously are seriously into golf, probably pretty good (usually) and are always looking for more to play with. Bonus if you belong somewhere nice or have access to somewhere. Good luck.

Many public courses have a men's club with tournaments and/or a show up and
play group.

Play as a single and you will meet some other 1, 2, 3's who might be a good fit.
You'll meet some you don't want as regular partners also.

New neighbors who play golf.

All the ways listed above can grow into a regular group.

Get to know the people working in the local golf store. They know just about everyone in the area who golfs and can point you in the right direction.

Hello guys,

I am just curious, when you move to a new place and if you don’t know anyone who play golf around there. How do you find golfing friends?

If there is a particular time of day you like to play, for example early morning, make a tee time (or just show up) and play the course (s). Soon you will learn if there are regulars who play that course , at that time of morning, and (if the regulars are agreeable to letting you round out a foursome) you may enjoy it and become a part of their group of course regulars.

If you play at different times and, or, days, then just book times a a single and see what happens. You may get along well with one player or two , exchange phone numbers, and from that point you can arrange future games.

You could join a club or course if you have supplementary income. Dont think anyone mentioned this but post a forum on golfwrx with playing partners and your geographic area in the title. Find out if anyone you work with plays golf or go to your local bar and look for the one guy in the titleist hat. There's always one. Use your imagination, there's lots of ways.

I play at a local muni (affordable yearly rates and kept up fairly nicely).  I play at the same time most morning as a single.  I got to know the other regulars fairly quickly and on top of that, as a single, you are constantly paired with other people.  If I get paired up with someone that I enjoy playing with I just give them my number at the end of the round and tell them when I normally play and to let me know if they ever want to join up.  I’ve made quite a few friends this way.

Be willing to play as a single, sooner or later you'll come across a few people you enjoy playing with, keep at it and you'll build a network but it may take a couple seasons. You could also ask the pro if they know of any regular games, ask for contact info for the organizers and offer to fill in if they ever need an extra.

Many ways to go about it:

Play in a local league

Play as a single and get matched up

Bring it up at the job in small talk that you play

If you're looking for money games ask the course pro

Eventually you'll find enough people who like your company golfing and vice versa and you have a solid core group

If you have not yet, try the social networking app called Grinder. It is men only and a great way too hook up with golfers that will grind out a score on days when they don't have the 'a' game.

they'll be putting balls in holes on exotic course layouts they never imagined.
