Tryig to fix Inside Takeaway. ( uploaded a second video with "progress" ? )

Recommended Posts

Hello !

I have been fighting overdraws/hooks lately . A week ago i recorded my swing and I was traumatized by how bad it looked. Super inside takeaway .

I started doing some drills to fix it and after a week i recorded the swing again convinced it was fixed because my ball flight now is pretty consistent ( but powerless ) , most of them straight with very little draw at the end.

The swing i show in the video was thinking i was EXAGERATING the takeaway, my intention was something like the position i show in the photo , but when i do the real swing , even if i think im exagerating like in the photo , im not... im suckig it inside. In my opinion , my inside takeaway is because of lack of height at P2 position . Also, i see too much left forearm rotation ?

Also, tell me if im correct , my spine forward bend is not good , i see what i think is called S-POSTURE . I think it might be the cause of my back pain lately.

Sorry for the bad english.

Thx in advance.

You just need to set your wrists earlier while pivoting. I really like this drill. It should feel like a very early set (it won't be):

He's a lefty, but in your case, don't let the stick leave the left side of your body until the club sets.

azz-c40113-1400x.jpgAfter read your comment, i went to my backyard and used this "chipstix" from callaway i bought for chipping some time ago.

I always though the best way to set the wrists was to let them set naturally , but maybe in my case is not the best idea or at least i might need to educate them for some time .

The feeling overall of setting my wrists earlier was very good and promising and yes , it feels like is very early , but still feels good and i feel like it can be a more powerfull swing , too bad i only have 30 yard and i cannot test it with a real swing . I always "feel" things are ok untill i record myself.

Thank you very much i will record my progress ( if there is any , hopefully soon ) .

Hello again ,

Just uploaded another video with my progress . Still inside takeaway but i think im improving a bit . There is still overswing also , club head "bounce" at the top and shaft pointing right most of the times

im trying to work with a combination of 70% speed full swing , half swings and stopping at the top 3 sec then downswing. When i go full speed , i feel everything goes wrong again.

I would like to start working on shallowing the shaft next ,But right now my mind is full of swing thoughs i feel i will explode at some point

Hello !

Correct me if I'm wrong , but the position you are referring does not look to me like p2 position , more like the halfway to it like the one In the first pic I'm posting.

I have read all ASI threat already , nearly every message on it ? . I try to use the concept also ... just not very succesfully yet.

Thx !

You are still rotating your forearms way too early in the takeaway - your left shoulder is too active and wrists don't set vertically enough. Gets shaft too flat - your pattern is still shallow to steep. At p3 shaft points outside ball - should point between ball and feet. Elbow should point to ground - your's points away from you - look at TIger's left elbow. Since you've rotated arms right in backswing your reaction is to rotate them left(steep) in downswing. The stick drill works this, exaggeration - go Matt Wolff on it.

Hello glk ,

Very true , my shaft pointing well outside target line . Thx for those check points . Looks like all of them are related . If I set the wrist more vertical shaft will point between my feet and the ball and my left elbow should be in a good position also.

I will try to emulate Matt wolf for some time ... ( Without his Knee trigger ) and keep using the stick

Thank you.

  • 3 weeks later...

Get a light box or preferably a large piece of styrofoam and  place it just outside the toe your club ,angled a very small amount inside your target line. For the first foot to 18 inches make your takeaway with the toe of the club barely touching the Box or styrofoam.

You can make your downswing with the box in place

Your July 25 swing was better than the August 3 swing. In the August 3 swing you finish your turn but your arms keep going, you’re no longer connected. This will produce a lot of miss hits in your future. Your swing will depend more and more on timing your hands. Focus on ball flight, not static positions. You’re definitely within the tolerable scale on your backswing.
