Soccer on Golf Channel

Can someone explain to me how this makes sense. Today's Golf Channel programming...

10:00-11:00 Golf Central Pregame

11:00-1:00 Premier League Soccer

I would rather watch a rebroadcast of the British Masters...or how about this...a longer live broadcast Golf Central Pregame or todays Korn Ferry event. Is it me, or is NBC ruining the Golf Channel.

And to make it worse, Golf Channel is stopping golf coverage to show the worst European Soccer team to see if they can avoid relegation. Can't make this crap up...

Nothing will grow soccer in America than broadcasting the worst team in the league on the Golf Channel. Great job NBC...

I too tuned in to find this. Soccer ? I’ve tried to watch it. I can’t for the life of me follow the rules. It’s a cross between red rover and hackie sack as best I can tell. Apparently if you kick the ball foo far too soon it’s a penalty? And if you step out of bounds it’s not a penalty? Odd. Seems like a game where being fast or kicking it far is penalized ? But that’s me not getting the rules I’m sure. At any rate. Golf Chanel needs to have golf on it. Not soccer. Don’t they have a soccer Chanel ?

I need to watch a test with someone who understands what's going on. I've watched Cricket, I just can;t the hang of the rules or scoring.

At least it is not cornhole on ESPN.

I don't understand soccer on the Golf Channel. However, soccer beats most other televised sports for me, especially right now.

LOL. That's one of the problems with statistics - when you start at ZERO it's pretty easy to be the fastest growing sport, even over that long a period

 

Seriously though, when the Cosmos played in front of 100,000 fans "everybody" was saying "This is it. Watch it take off now". Watch all the little kids growing up to ebe soccer players and fans. I'm still waiting,,,,,,,,,,,, OK, not really as I really don't care for soccer.

Having said that, a few years ago (2014 ?), during the World Cup I watched a fair bit more. These were all-stars from different teams playing together for their country. With the best of the best playing it was much faster paced and a FAR more interesting watch. I actually watched a few games the U.S. didn't play in.

Was 2014 the year those obnoxious horns were all the rage? Only made me hate soccer more, really cemented the hipsters and millennials as all time dbags for me. Soccer is always fastest growing because until last year we had more children than the generation before us. Anyone can play soccer, it’s an easy sport to just toss a few dozen kids out on a field and let them run. “Soccer” counts this as participation even though the kids don’t make the choice to play, couldn’t tell you how to play or what the score was (since they don’t keep score). By age 10 or so most move on to real sports and leave flower picking behind. Soccer, I meant leave soccer behind.

As a European I’ll just say you’re all completely wrong about soccer... one of the best sports and the world agrees (apart from US)

But yeah strange the golf channel was showing it.

The less I say about the above post the better. But the vuvuzelas was in 2010 and saying it’s an easy sport is laughable. It’s the hardest sport to do well at the highest level because every corner of the world plays it. US can’t produce a top player other than Pulisic, even if it’s not a major sport that’s in a country with hundreds of millions of people. It’s cut throat to be really good at the game.

I have no interest in American Football and find it boring but I don’t understand it so I don’t blast it. But let’s just say it’s harder to be top 10 player in soccer than the big 4 American sports combined.

For all those ragging on soccer, at the elite level there aren't many (if any) sports that require a greater combination of athleticism and fitness. That's one of the things I appreciate when watching it.

Soccer is a sport but the fans and (sub)culture that surround it are toxic.

I have 6 kids so my experience with soccer involves two practices per kid per week and 8 hours on Saturday. Supplying orange slices and Capri Suns for a dozen rugrats and sitting in a chair reading a book. Torture.

My now adult children say they hated soccer. I let them know not as much as I did.
