Lang is kind of like the golf hipster version of Anthony Bourdain and was married to some pop star ( Sia )

I guess that got him money and contacts

His videos have good production values and can be entertaining but can t imagine anybody cares what he endorses

I had to wash my ears out with AC/DC after listening to his wife s stuff to keep from disliking Aussies

Golfers (and all able bodied people in general) need to hit the gym and lift HEAVY weight as a major part of their fitness regimen

1. Most members over 30 on this site should be playing regular flex shafts in their irons and a maximum of stiff flex in their woods.

2. I miss the old retail model of releases every 10 months. It gave me frequent opportunities to play "almost" the newest gear for a fraction of the price of new.

3. Titleist irons are overrated. Ping woods are underrated.

4. GPS is far superior to a range finder for most golfers based on time of use alone.

5. Shaft weight and flex play a larger role in forgiveness than the design of the head.

I gotta disagree with you. I struggled with driver and went the fw route as u said. Not being able to hit driver is a huge detriment and leads to much longer clubs into the green. What happens if the fw wood is an issue that day? Sometimes u gotta suck it up and get the yips out on the course till it becomes at least manageable.

I’m the goofiest swing you will ever see and can compete with players who hit it 50-85 yards by me. Center of the fairway and a pretty good putter. Handicap is the lowest ever. 3.5

i can carve a 3 wood to a Back pin on long par 4s out of necessity. Drives the other guys nuts.

keep the hole in front of you

I don't disagree with you on in play shots lead to better scores. I just think you don't reach your full potential to go lower. In general, driver goes significantly further than a hybrid. Shorter shots into long par 4s and par 5's being reachable in 2 should lead to better potential scoring is all I'm saying.

Fair point. I would agree driver gives you the best opportunity to go low when you learn to hit it. Hopefully, that can be achieved on the range and not the course.

I have a buddy who hits driver every hole and has yet to break 100 but he hooks/slices it off the planet and won’t tee of with any other club. At least 1/3 of the holes he would be better off teeing it up with a 9 iron and hitting it 145 in the fairway.

I'll be sure to clue in the retired guys I play with this afternoon. No need for them to be hitting those risky 170 yard driver shots when they could just just tee off with a 125-yard 5-iron instead. That also has the advantage of they don't have to worry about trying to reach the green on their second. Or maybe third.

I used to play with a guy once in a while. With his driver he used a 3" tee, set up with the ball ahead of his front foot and then swung upward and so hard one or both feet were off the ground at impact. He'd tee off with an iron on more than half the holes because he couldn't keep the driver in play. Don't think it ever once occurred to him that the driver might be a perfectly safe club if he didn't try to swing like a gorilla at it.

Obviously you took this out context. I’m speaking to the players who can’t play bogey golf bc they can’t hit fairways and refuse to put the driver away. And in my experience, those are the guys who can’t break 90. Older players is a different conversation......I’ve lost to plenty of older guys striping 200 yard drives in the fairway all day haha

With that said, you disagree so my take is unpopular!

It’s been said before, and needs to be said again and again - if you can’t get off the tee with a reasonable shot that is in play most of the time, then move on from driver, 3W, whatever to a club that you can hit that day and keep moving. Even if it’s a 5 iron or hybrid. It’s better for your score, pace of play and infinitely kind to your playing partners.

Don’t hit another one to slice / hook it again, don’t spend ages looking for your ball and come back with 2-3 more “finds”, or try an Anne Oakley from the trees. If you are not good enough to get off the tee reliably, you can’t pull a Bubba from the rough to curve it and land 175 yds away on the green. Drop your ball wherever you feel like on the fairway for your second shot and play on. Just keep it moving.
