It's been paralysis by analysis for the past weeks and I had finally identified my sand and lob wedge to order - was about to call my local shop and place an order for 54 and 60 cleveland zipcore today.

lo and behold, saw this email popup and couldn't resist placing the kirkland order....

in general, I only need 54 and 60 but wondering if the kirkland 56 can be bent to 55 - will someone like golf galaxy or pga superstore do this for me and approx how much would they charge?

You should call the store and ask them. Fees for loft changes vary widely.

Just saw a slideshow at work today on some upcoming KS golf releases.  The wedges will be released this fall in a 3 piece set (52, 56, 60) with a $159.99 price point.  True temper shaft and KS tour grip.  Also, the 4-piece golf ball V 3.0 is set to go on sale in November.  Supposed to be better than the original 4 piece (though no details were given) and price point the same at $29.99 for 2dzn.  A new 3 piece is also in the works.

Any updates on the 4 piece ball?

Buddy of mine got them in play. Looking down on them they’re really a nice shape and good weight when swinging. The grips feel nice - like gp tour velvets. They performed well when I tried them out. If I was in market for a set of wedges - 100% would buy these and get them bent to my specs. I personally would have no problem with gaming them.

how do they compare to vokeys or other mainstream wedges?

I don’t use vokeys. I have older cleveland cg16 and Nike engage. If you want different grinds you’ll either need to grind yourself or learn how to hit the square sole.

that being said, I really feel like they were similar to my cg16’s when they were new, except the kirks feel like a heavier swing weight. As I said, 100% would get these - and that’s over any other mainstream wedge out there. Get the lofts bent to what I need them to be.

i didn’t hit a ton of shots though so I can’t give too in depth of a review.

Hopefully they come up with some kids clubs.  I'd pick up a set. IMO, the ones that are available on the market are waaay overpriced.

It would be nice for a good kids set, however, Golphin isn't overpriced for kids sets. I guess it all depends on you're looking to buy for the kiddos.

I tried out my cousin's 56 kirkland. I don't agree with Rick Shiels that it feels like a vokey. The SM8 is miles softer to me. Performs well but probably the worst feeling wedge i've ever hit and i'm not trying to exaggerate. I would honestly play anything else.

The faces feel firmer than my SM6. One of my buddies says the shaft feels softer than what he has in his TM Milled Grind wedges. This probably is due to the fact the head is heavier.

I am going to be playing with these for awhile. In fact, I bought a second set so that I can replace them when the grooves wear out. Since they are only $160, I would have no hesitation switching them out after a year. I normally play my wedges 3-4 years.

My local warehouse had putters, wedges and pallets of the new 3 piece balls and gloves. I don’t need any of them but am looking forward to the new 4 piece balls.

A playing partner of mine bought a set of these wedges and likes them.  He's about a 4 handicap and has a commensurate short game.  His old wedges were Clevelands of some sort, maybe 5 years ago or so.  No complaints.

Took all 3 out for 2 rounds this past wkend, i'm impressed. IMO the best value and as to playability, did everything I asked and needed them to do. Grips are a tad thin for my liking and shafts aren't my preference since I play graphite but that's all personal preference. Highly recommend.

  • 3 weeks later...

So I have played 6 rounds with the K-Wedges and the more I play them the more they are going to replace the Cleveland Wedges (52/56) .   The K-Wedges seem to sit better on the turn and give me more confidence on sweeping chip and pitch shots.  The Cleveland wedges appear to make me want to strike down a little more than I need.

The 60 cannot beat my MD4 - PM Grind for versatility but very pleases with these clubs.

My friend bought the 3 wedges and he loves them. I tested them at the range and not gonna like I really liked them and they felt solid/forgiving.

I don’t think I’d use them instead of my Ping Wedges (which I love) but if someone is looking for a cheaper option to get 3 wedges for $170 instead of paying $170 for one wedge from an OEM then that’s the way to go.
