Was the Mavrik line of irons really an improvement over the Rogue line of irons?

Never gamed either but difference to me in real life (not talking AI for example) is set options.

Mavrik Pro vs Rogue Pro is probably very similar.

but then they get very different...

Standard Mavrik has the super strong lofts comparable to the Rogue X (which was the biggest profile). However in Mavrik line the biggest profile is the Mavrik Max which will look like Rogue X but has weaker (but still strong lofts) like Rogue.

To put it simply...

a) if you want the longest iron but not the chunkiest/highest MOI then you’d want Mavrik

b) if you want chunkiest but not the longest or need help getting ball in air go Mavrik Max

c) if you want longest and chunkiest go Rogue X

d) If you want neither a, b, or c go Rogue

e) if you want a more players looking iron go Rogue Pro or Mavrik Pro or better yet Apex/Apex Pro

Tried the Rogue irons in 2018 at golf expo. Later tested out a Rogue X trade-in set at a local golf shop. Has a rather loose iron-to-iron yardstick: a hot low-face 7i will go as far as a slightly fat 5i.

I was looking to maybe get the Rogue Pro a year later (maybe with std Rogue 4i and 5i.) but it was out of production early. Pro a very smooth Players Distance club.

In February 2020 I got to hit Marvik test irons at two different events (last a week pre-COVID lockdown). MavPro probably too much for me. As noted the std Mav is distance iron with stronger lofts, the Mav MAX is SGI with higher lofts. That said, with 7i shots I got higher and almost a club longer with MAX than with std Mav.

Note: MAX did not feel clunky at impact. It's hard to explain - you need to do std Mav and Mav MAX side-by-side to tell.

Compared Mavrik, Mavrik Max, Rogue X, and Apex CF19 and I found that the Apex was the better performer... in terms of distance... dispersion... and spin. The Mavrik's are very nice irons, but I saw no reason to move from the Ape CF19's.

To be honest, is any manufacturer really making significant improvements any more from one generation to the next? Its just fine tuning at this point. I don't think you are going to see any performance improvement if you hit any iron in the Mavrik line and compare it to its equivalent in the Rogue line. In another year Callaway will release another line of irons with a bizarre name and you'll still be good with the Rogue, or even something a bit older.

i know this sounds crazy but to me it seems like even if big improvments werent made from one years set to the next they still feel different and for whatever reason play different then each other. I personally think everything about the mavrik line is better as far as the irons go. The pros seem more forgiving imo. The standards seem great. I just cant handle the offset and slightly too big topline. Theres a limit for me and they over did it on those otherwise i would have gamed them. The pros seem great i was down to those or mizuno mmc 20. The mmc 20s beat them out but only by a bit for a few reasons.

Not enough to upgrade IMO. I game the Mavrik irons but my upgrade was from AP1 718s . The Rogues didn’t have eye appeal for me.

I'm getting back into the game after a 15 year hiatus and I was fitted for a set of Rogue X. I LOVE the Rogue X, they were a game changer when they were released. Golf clubs seem to have gotten to a point similar to video game platforms...it seems any recent upgrades have been minimal and likely only noticeable by everyday players and pros. The Rogue X are forgiving enough for a mid-high handicapper and I hit them well. I also liked the Mavrik's, but they were twice the price for the iron set and I couldn't tell enough of a difference to justify the price. I picked up the Rogue X set of irons for $450. I focused more on the flex of the shaft than the club head so I spent more time looking at that. Good luck with your decision!

More or less this. I can still remember being at a tour of an OEM facility and them touting the improved 'forgiveness' in the new driver vs. last. Was a whopping 3%!
