Modern Lunar Control 4?

Recommended Posts

So I have 2 pairs of Lunar Control 4s that I absolutely love. The pair in my profile pic is going on 4 years old (my niece custom painted them) and they still feel fantastic. The reason I love them so much is because of the TPU heel and the stability of the shoe. The easiest way for me to describe it is it’s like having a car with sports suspension with very little roll. I have lots of leg movement in my swing and it seems like most shoes now have very soft bottoms and heels. The LC4 are extremely stable and the most comfortable shoe I’ve worn. I also have a very old set of Foot Joy Sports (probably 10 years old) that also have that plastic in the base of the heel.

A few weeks ago I was in the PGA Superstore and tried on a bunch of shoes and they are felt like I was swaying in a “Camry”. Just wondering if there are any shoes that have that similar sturdy heal contruction like the LC4? Just picked up a pair of Nike React Vapor 2 and they aren’t bad but still too much movement.

Yeah, I played 9 holes with the Vapor 2s yesterday and they were pretty good. Definitely really comfortable and pretty stable. Not sure if they have the longevity of the LC4s but still a good shoe.

No I didn't but they look really close to the FJ Sports I still have which was the first pair with that stability heel. Will definitely take a look at these! Thank you!

I loved my LC 4's, too. Lightweight and comfortable, but with great grip and lateral stability. I had three pairs. I was very disappointed when Nike dropped the line.

I've moved on to the React Vapor 2's. They have a heel counter, like the LC 4's, and are lightweight, comfortable, and stable. I think the heel is a little higher on them than on the LC 4's, though. I liked height of the LC 4's better.

Tried the ZITs, but they had horrible grip and lateral stability for me. Super comfortable, though.

I'm going to get a pair of the Roshe Tours on eBay. They have the same Lunarlon cushioning as the LC 4's. I tried the regulars on in the store last year, but they were too narrow. Going to try and get a pair in Wide. I see quite a few of Nike's PGA pros wearing them when more expensive options are available to them. Figured I'd give them a try.

I have pairs of LC3 and 4s and still think those shoes are great. Low to the ground, stable and comfortable.

but I will say the Tour Premiere are my favourite now. Even more comfortable (if you get the right size) and still stable. Probably why BK went back to them ?

How’s the sizing on the Tour Premiere? I heard they run pretty small.

I would love to revive this thread as I am in the same boat. I had two pairs of the LC4's that I've used for many seasons, but they are finally wearing out. I have seen the couple recommendations from this thread, but would love to get more feedback. I have a wide foot and wear zero drop shoes regularly like Nike Metcon and Reebok Nano, so I loved the wide toe box and minimal drop of the LC4's. I just picked up a pair of GFORE Gallivanters which I like, but I would prefer something more athletic looking, a little lighter, with real spikes.

The tour premieres look solid, but seem tough to come by. I'll keep my eye on eBay. True Linkswear also seems promising, but I'm worried about the tread pattern. I swing pretty hard and being in Vancouver I play in wet conditions often.

Would love to hear more feedback on those who transitioned into something similar coming from the LC4's.

I somehow missed this but I'm seriously looking at the Tour X.  Of all the shoes mentioned, those look like the closest to the stability of some old FootJoy Sports I have.  They aren't along the lines of the LC4s, but if they are like the FJ Sports I still have (probably going on 10 years) then I'll be happy.

Still buying pairs off of eBay, but would love to find something as low profile and stable as the lunar control 4s.  Anyone have experience with the Nike Roshe Tours?  Do they sit as low as the lunar controls, or a bit higher?

I tried a pair of the Rosche Tours in store and was very dissapointed with the feel. Much higher heel and narrower. They just felt very unstable compared to the LC4.

Literally just posted this on the 2020 Nike thread. I didn't see this thread.

I can't believe this thread exists! Online forums make me realize I am not as weird as I think I am!!! I had the LC4s and the Lunars after that where they put the swoosh back on the side? I literally ripped a hole in the LC4s from so much use.

I went through this same debate 2 years ago and ended up with the React Vapor 2s. Phenomenal shoe. After a couple seasons, both my white and pair feel like they should be replaced.

After being disappointed with the '21 Nike catalog, I randomly grabbed some Roshe Tours because I always loved the look and got them $60 bucks over the holidays. I got the RV2s over the Roshe when they were both new because coming from the LC4 / Other lunar model, I wanted the Fly Wire and React. Always felt the Roshe was more stylish.

In terms of performance, I can say that the two pairs I have held up phenomenally and are a great performance shoe. They may not be Lunars, but they are the next best thing.

I also ordered the TW20s to see if they will fill the void of the RV2s. I love what Nike is doing with golf. The stuff looks youthful and is cool. But most of the new models seem like they are not for the hardcore golfer who walks and carries. Feels like there is a gap in the product line this year... Unless the TWs are legit

I actually have both and also Vapor. Rosche Tour is slightly narrower in mid-foot, where LC4 is actually narrower in toe box. I don't feel it sits higher though, and no issues with stability. First two rounds with Rosche Tour were both after 2" of pouring rain and course was like rivers. I can report that waterproofing is excellent. The sides seem to go up a little higher around ankles and it actually worked great in wet condition.

That's encouraging. Maybe I'll give a pair a try, with the cheap options on eBay. I always find it tough to get a good feel for spiked shoes on a hard surface like at the store. I did always wear the wide size in the LC4 and the toe box just felt perfect to me. Just looking at pictures from the side though the heel drop looks significantly higher in the Rosche which I don't love.

Got TW20s, consider those?

The React + Zoom in the TW feels more stiff than just React on the React Vapor 2S. Might be good coming from Lunar?

it’s a pretty wide shoe with a flat midsole

Don’t have my LC4s around for comparison, but I think it could be a winner

PS - Anyone every know what the midsole cushioning is on Roshe Tours? Just an EVA / Pylon or is it Lunar like suggested above?

Indeed Roshe Tour can be found for super cheap.. I think I got mine on ebay for $40 shipped. Put one bid and won..

Like I said, the collar on the Roshe is a bit higher than than LC4. That might have something to do with the heel drop looks higher. Tomorrow i can try to take a picture of both side by side.

Excuse all the mud.. I think they both deserve a good cleaning. So the heel sits pretty much down by the horizontal line in Roshe, and the bulge you see sort of wraps around the bottom of the your heel.
