Vokey Low Bounce K feedback

Recommended Posts

Considering a refresh on the K Grind lob wedge as it's a couple of years old.

Split on another K Grind or whether to go low bounce K this time.

I know how they differ on paper, but is anyone able to compare how the two compare in the real world?

Specifically, how do they play differently on a standard pitch, greenside and in bunkers, both soft and firm?

I prefer the TVD K Grind (10 degree bounce) on Bermuda and Rye for chips and tight lies. Pitch shots very little difference. Soft to medium bunkers I preferred the 10 degree bounce. But in firm or wet sand I will use another club generally an old Hogan Special W wedge with a narrow sole.

Currently using TVD K as well and it is very good. I think the SM5 K grind bent one strong to get to 10 bounce would be great too. The new ones are awful... no idea what they're doing.

I disagree that these types of wedge grinds are bad in soft conditions. There are wedges that will be more bulletproof there for sure, but a big, wide sole (high effective bounce) will be fairly resistant to digging regardless of being low "measured" bounce. That big sole takes away a chunk of versatility in terms of opening the face around the greens, but a little bit of heel relief can help with that a lot. Any of the wider soles are pretty much a no go out of harder sand though as they will just want to skip off the surface, the same characteristic that makes them so automatic out of softer sand.

I agree with you about the D, but that’s far away from a low K. I play a D and I have an MD5 low W. They’re quite different. I also have an M which is in between, which again is much less forgiving than the D. Whilst a wide sole Undoubtably helps in soft conditions, my own experience suggests that it’s not enough, then again last winter in the UK was horribly soft to the point of quagmire.
