T100 or 620 CB

JB_007

Recommended Posts

Recently looking at some new irons, was playing 716 CB/MB, and decided it was time to get some new clubs. I've went through a fitting and it's come down to the T100 with Modus 120 or the 620cb with Project LZ 6.5.

I like the look of the 620 CB, but not sure if over a course of a season, the T100 will prove to be more forgiving and better option? Currently a 6.7 handicap, ball striking would probably be considered my strong suit, maybe only second to short game.

Any thoughts? Any one hit / game both?

I’m 6.5 index and I really like the T100s. I for my swing, I take shallow divots, the pre-worn leading edge on the Titleists is great. For some reason, I found the T100 easier to hit (I have 718 CB in my backup bag) than the 620 CB.

The T100s have a slightly thinner top line than the 620 CB - but there is nothing really in it. The biggest difference with the CB this year is they took the tungsten out of the 5, 6, 7 irons from the previous model.

For me, the T100 is really a blend of the 718 AP2 and 718 CB - thinner top line, less offset through the set, pre-worn leading edge. It is the best iteration of that club. Very happy with my set (I play with Modus 120 stiff and carry a 7 iron 158 yards).

Others may be able to provide more direct comparisons.

To me the most used iron on the PGA Tour is the T100. So if the pros are opting for the T100 over the 620 CB that should be an indicator of just how good that iron is. The 620s have tungsten in the 3-4 irons, the T100 goes all the way down to the 7 iron. So the pros seem to be opting for the higher MOI in the mid irons that the T100 provide.

I’ve hit both and just ordered the 620 CB after being fit the other day. The T100 is probably a little more forgiving so if you are on the fence about wanting a little more help then that’s the way to go. As ProjectX said, the T100 is the most played iron on tour so that should tell you something.

Me, I’m a contrarian, I still play persimmon woods, so I was looking for a classic forged look and wasn’t interested in a lot of tech. I don’t play in tournaments and I’m not worried about length, I just wanted the more classic looking and constructed club. I got fitted into the CB’s with Project X 6.0 shafts. My 7-iron carry is 167 and the 3-iron is 215. I’m quite used to playing long irons as I play a lot of classic iron sets.

For how I get enjoyment from the game the 620 CB’s were the right choice for me.

I think the T100 is the winner this year. I'm still in the 716 CB but if I got something new it'd be the T100. The CB is more for the guy who wants a more reasonable blade. There's very little "help" there. Again, the CB is designed for the guy who wants a blade look (minimal offset, narrow sole, etc.) but who prefers a more consistent feel (which perimeter weighting gives).

I think the T100 is the sweetest iteration of the AP2 we've yet seen. It's as sleek as we've yet seen in a club like that. The sole isn't too wide nor is the offset to bad. The similarity of the T100 and the MB could easily squeeze out the CB.

@gman1707 sure, I actually played the MP20 mbs for about a week until they were stolen, so I have some experience with all the irons. I did see faster ball speeds with the T100, it was about 2mph more for me than the 620cb.
All Trackman # with 6 iron.
T100: 174yrds, 6116 avg spin
620Cb : 169yd, 6529 avg spin
I'm not sure about the trackman numbers for the MP20s, but according to my Shotscope, and playing 4rounds or so, I would say the the avg carry was right around 165-170 as well.

It’s got to be the T100. The 620 CB’s are lovely and you could hardly go wrong with them but T100 fits more people more of the time. At address, you could honestly be using a blade. Add in a little more forgiveness than you would get otherwise then it has to be T100.

T100's are really good. I've played blades all my life and the T100's look just as good as most of them but way more forgiving and stronger ball flight. Just the other day I sat the T100 6 iron down next to the original Nike blade and they have the same profile and topline. The 620 CB's look awesome but I have not hit them, there's no need with the playability and looks of the T100.

Thanks everyone, after hearing how popular the T100 is, decided to place an order for them. Thanks again, for everyone's input.

I have all hit the T100 in a fitting and a quick demo on a range, but I did own the 718 AP2 for a short while.

The T100 feels better, has less offset and has a thinner topline. The 718 AP2 I feel is a little more forgiving, but the T100 didn't feel difficult to hit ( again, on the range and during fitting). I'm sure someone else may be able to offer more on this topic.. I know Michael Newton Golf on Youtube did a comparison.

T100 looks, feels, and performs better than any AP2 imo. The turf interaction alone makes it worth an upgrade. It's a pretty forgiving iron and the ball wants to fly very straight. I never liked the AP2s enough to pull the trigger, and I love the T100 irons and instantly put them in the bag... so take that for what it's worth.

I played the 718 AP2's for a while and loved them but the T100 is a better iron overall for me. The topline is thinner which suits my eye. I like the shape of the 718 AP2 8 & 9 iron better from address, particularly the toeline, but the sole of the T100 works much better with my swing. Other than some slight differences in profile and topline they have similar shapes at address and similar feel.

Hit both in the fitting. Almost no difference in top line, but the t100 feels so much better. To me the CB should be entirely skipped in this years lineup. 620MB are maybe the best to blade to me in '20 and the t100 were really great players irons, but cb is a complete miss.

The CB is a good mixed set option for the MBs. Otherwise T100 (non-s) is the way to go.

I’ve always thought the Titleist CB range was the most attractive golf club in the market and I’ve always wanted a set. 716 and 718 CB look wise are just phenomenal. Better than the MBs

with that said and no disrespect to anyone that has the new version but to me Titleist crowded them out. The new MB looks better than the 718 to me but I just have a hard time seeing many people fitting into or choosing the CB over the T100

Definitely a thinner top line and less offset. The AP2’s were never a bad looking club but, they weren’t a true comparison to a blade (lookswise), the T100 most definitely is. Performance wise, they are pretty similar although I would say that I found the AP2’s to be a little hotter on occasion. I don’t seem to get the jumper out of the semi rough that I was used to now that I have the T100.

Does anyone have any experience with the T100 vs 620mb? As I mentioned in the original, I played the 718 CB/mb combo, and had recently switched to the MP20mb, until they were stolen. I went into a local golf shop today and saw them for the first time, and they sure look good...

JT is playing a combo of T100/620 MB, granted he only uses the T100 4 iron. I'd go 8-PW in the MB as there is no difference in forgiveness whatsoever IMO with a blade to a players CB in those irons. In the full set, there is going to be a pretty big forgiveness difference.

I have the T100 and feel they are much better than the 718 AP2. The feel and forgiveness is much better. In fairness I am using the stock AMT White S300 in the T100 and I had the LZ 6.0 in the AP2. I didn't think I would like the AMT but it is a shaft/head combo that works for me. I really like MB in shorter irons and may look at switching those out.

That’s why you try before you buy. Can’t go wrong with either one.

what would make any of you guys pick the T100s? I currently play 620 CBs and I am pretty close to pulling the trigger on those Black or Chrome T100s haha. I contemplated doing a combo set with T100 for 4-6 iron. I am just curious how the WRX fam would approach my idea of either regular T100 or just go T100s all the way haha

I currently play the 712 CB which is one of the best clubs ive ever played....i just recently hit the T100-S and compared the 2.....the T100-S is less off-set to my eye and is thinner, which surprised me.....the sole is thinner as well.....the T1100-S looks as close to a blade as you can get....not sure this is the best club for someone over a 10, but we'll see

I have both! T100 4 iron, 620-cb 5-pw. In my opinion, looks at address are very similar but thats where all similarities end. The cbs play closer to blades...and is something i do desire especially the short irons. The t100 has a different feel, like a more hollow pop at impact, but not too bad. Definitely more forgiving on low strikes. Not quite as versatile as the cbs as far as turf interaction and controlling flight. Both really good clubs.

I absolutely despise all things Titleist, it started as a youngster, and and started burning with the intensity of 1,000 suns while I was the owner of Sunset Beach Golf.  Maybe you do know this about me, maybe you don't, but I am not shy about it.  I absolutely refuse to play their clubs, Foot Joy gloves or shoes, their balls anything Titleist in any way shape or form.

That being said my iron game had gone into the crapper, with a wrist injury and then putting off surgery for two years, then finally having surgery I am putting my game back together.  I have tried about every iron out there in some way shape or form.  I was in such dire straights that I even tried Titleist.

Long story short, my three next up put through their paces are the SUB 70 (699 pro and 639 CB) combo set, P770's followed by the Titleist T100's.  Even though I preferred the T100 to the P770's, I put them last.  The fact that I was even willing to put them on the list speaks volumes about what a good club the T100's are.

I preferred the T100 over the T100s and the numbers confirmed that on the LM.  Yes, it's not as long because of the loft differences, but I actually prefer the lofts as it fits better with my wedges to keep the distance gaps perfect.
