Mizuno JPX 921 Tour, Forged, JPX-921 Hot Metal & JPX921 Hot Metal Pro irons: In-hand photos

Recommended Posts

My fitter, a close friend and golf shop owner,  recommended the HM 921's with stock shaft,  1 degree flat, standard lofts, grips, length.   He plays the 919 HM's.    I have two rounds in the books with 921's HM.  They are extremely nice sticks.  Easy to hit, forgiving (especially on the toe misses), and long.   I am very happy and satisfied with the HM's.   I haven't played Mizuno's in years,  usually Titliest and Callaway..  My set includes the 4 Fli-Hi,  5-SW...   The SW is impressive,  never had a sand wedge with such nice feel....you almost cannot feel the hit....so soft....the gap is solid, as well.   I ordered the full set so I wouldn't have to be concerned with gaps in the lofts....i am just a simple minded guy....I figured the Mizuno engineers worked out all the gapping equations.....headed out the door, as we speak, for another round....looking forward to hitting them again....

Best irons I’ve ever had. At least until I hit them! HMP 4 iron shipping separately - thankful to get the 921 Forged 5-PW in a split shipment.

I care what he shot in addition to the rest of his posts (subjective-objective)...tells me a lot about how he is  vining with his irons...Seriously who posts telling someone what they can post and whats ok or not ok to type...SMH, always that guy?

Scroll down to under the "Compare" line charts. "Specs and Options". Press the "Custom Shafts" button and scroll left/right. (Convoluted, but they're there). Would be nice if it were just a chart.

Got it.....thanks so much!

Lots of options but not too many light weight choices for an old geezer like me

Bizarre way to show shaft options.

FYI: They now added a "View all" button under the "custom shaft" scroller. Which brings you here: https://mizunogolf.com/us/custom-fit/custom-specs/?tab=1   it seems like they're listening?

Good, next cab off the rank on their website should be SEO. If I Google "JPX 921 Forged", the Mizuno website is on the 3rd page of results!

Could somebody please post a couple pictures of the 921 FORGED Gap wedge? Top line, sole and back. Thanks in advance! I played today with the 921 forged, awesome experience, old clubs were 919 HM. First time I played forged with thinner top line and sole. First time I played with Golf Pride Tour Velvet plus 4 as well, great feeling in hands.

sole is a little wider than the p but blends well.

I have got the chance to put some work in with mine this week and I wanted to post some feedback. I ordered 921 Forged 5-g, modus 105 stiff -1 weak. I have been playing pings for most of the last 10 years. My last set of mizunos were mp60s. I have made some swing changes and I’m not Nearly as steep as I used to be and I’m playing tight Bermuda fairways.

First impressions for me
I really like the look. Blade length isn’t too long. Not a lot of offset. They are really easy to get thru the turf off a firm tight lie. A lot more forgiving heel side than I expected. Slightly thin gives noticeable feedback but not losing a lot of distance. Feel is extremely solid. The closest thing I have hit in the last couple years is the z785. The srixon is a little Smaller profile and a little softer but not a lot.

the feel changes between the 8 and the 7. The 5-7 almost have a denser feel and the ball really jumps off the face. I haven’t gotten enough play with non range balls to comment on the distance differences but it is nothing noticeable on the range.

So far I am really impressed.

You make some interesting points. I noticed the better crispness also in the HMB 5-7 irons vs the shorter ones.

The comparison the the 785s isn’t one I had read so far, but after hitting the Forged today, it actually is a pretty good one.

I was surprised how different they are in comparison to the 919forged. To me it almost felt like a different product line altogether.

Anyone with an order date of 9/17 or later receive their new sticks yet?

I ordered on 9/17 & have not received a shipping confirmation yet for my custom set.

However, I was told by Mizuno that they are shipping right around the 4 week mark. So, should be shipping soon.

Hardly any offset on my 921 Forged because of 2* weak to match the Tours.

This is exactly how I would do it too!  Nice work and that 4iron Forged looks great and should blend really nicely.  Hows the yardage gap on ball flight/total distance from 921 Forged 4 iron and the Tour 5 iron?

I was randomly refunded my purchase by PGA superstore today, anybody else have this happen? No e-mail notifications and nothing on my bank statement.

Maybe the clubs are not a good fit for you after all?   The system bounced you out?   Who knows.  God bless, the clubs will come.

All the best , I hope those clubs give you a lot of joy!

Very interested too.

I assume the 2* weak loft would be enough to hide the cavity that was otherwise visible.

I have no issues with the tour 4 iron but some added launch in bad lies would be nice. The tour 4 iron is not scary at all and has ample blade length.

Also keen to understand the gapping at 2* weak.

Could be something I experiment with. Or I might pair a HMP 2 iron to a graphite shaft and play a driving iron for something new.

Got my HMPs last Friday.  Swing weights are good but the 7 iron is 1/4” long!  6 iron is std 1/2” longer than 7 so I need to have both shortened the 1/4”.  Not the biggest deal as my shop that ordered them will quick fix but rare for Mizuno to miss a beat.  Anyone think I should go ahead and have all adjusted shorter due to Mizuno wacky measurements that are 1/4” longer than every other OEM.

Has anybody hit the 921 Forged compared to the 900 Forged?

yes...gaming the 900F currently while we are waiting on a replacement shaft that was damaged in delivery.  My 900F is solid and a favorite.  In the fitting (also with my P790 and 919F), 921F felt like a longer version of the 900F and really no performance DNA from the 919F (good for me other than cosmetic from the 919F).  If you want a little more distance and more forgiveness in a similar to the 900 compact package, the 921F is a drop in. I couldn't be happier they are almost in my bag.
