Mizuno JPX 921 Tour, Forged, JPX-921 Hot Metal & JPX921 Hot Metal Pro irons: In-hand photos

Played 18 holes today and I am officially in love with the 921F! They are every bit as long as my P790’s which were a club longer than my 919F but the really revealing issue is they are so much better feeling. Forgiving but mainly pure strikes feel and sound so good. Also love the GFF Chromoly in the 4-7irons. Really good and long with nice flight. Really couldn’t tell a difference between the Chromoly or the 1025E which is a great thing, but for sure great forgiving (perfectly compact) performers.

Nice work Mizuno...921F are over the top good. Thanks

I did not realise that the 921 and 919 Tour has a higher MOI than the MP-20 MMC. When I was being fitted for my current set I nearly went the MMC because I thought they were more forgiving. I would expect there are many golfers that would be incorrectly thinking the same.

I can't remember the website but they rated the Tour a 2 forgiveness rating and for handicaps up to 4, and the MMC a 2.5 for handicaps up to 12. So much bad information out there..

it’s not like moi is the only or the most important characteristic when it comes to forgiveness. Many other factors at play.

I recieved my set of SEL last week and they are awesome. Played twice with them and I like the feel over the 2018ap2. I do notice a different feel between the forged and tour at the 5 and 4 irons but they don't feel worse just a bit different. Overall I really like them so far; am noticing a bit more distance over the ap2 but nothing significant. Any other lefties recieve their set? They look awesome in person

Got fitted on Oct. 1. I am hoping to have mine end of the month/first week of November. Can't wait to get my hands on them.

I read an article, can't recall exactly where, that stated that the 921 has increased MOI than the 919T and also the MMC, which made me look into it further.

Then went and looked at Maltby ratings to compare specs and that validated that the 919T had a higher MOI than the MMC.

I didn't really need data to tell me the 921T is more forgiving than the 919.. the perimeter weighting is noticeably larger around the entire head on the 921T, and there is additional thickness on the lower half of each club. This is supported by Mizuno's own claims.

The MMC may use tungsten to launch the ball higher, but it's lack of perimeter weighting is obviously what makes the 921T more forgiving. I'd assume this comes at the expense of workability which is what someone wants from a MP iron.

I compared the 921 tours and the mp 20 mmc twice.  Their almost identical to my eyes except the tours have a better looking wedge and that the MMC launched higher and peaked higher for 5 and 4 even though there 2 degrees stronger.  If I had to buy today I would get jpx 921 tour 6-GW and then MMC in 5 and 4 iron 1 degree weak.  Maybe try the 921 forged in 5 and 4 but don't really wan to bend them more than a degree.

I received my set yesterday.  I went with:

5-6 - HM

7-PW - HMP

GW - Forged

I haven't had the chance to hit them yet but I will say that I am surprised at how much larger the HM 5 and 6 irons are compared to the HMP.  When I hit the HM and HMP 7 irons at a fitting I didn't find them to be that different at address. I also looked at both full sets in the store and didn't notice a huge difference.

I haven't hit them yet so I'm just making an observation.  I was a bit hesitant about having the HM in the set, especially the 6 iron (was originally just thinking of doing the 5 iron HM and the rest HMP) due to the larger heads, but my fitter made a good point when he said "you don't need the club to look sexy when you're 180 yards from the hole in the rough."  Fair point.  As long as they perform I'll be happy.

I'm coming from the MX-200 irons which have a much longer and taller face than the HMP, so the larger 5 and 6 hot metals hopefully won't bother me too much.

Can't wait to hit them and see...

The Tour's are pretty, but do they have a better feel than the 919 tour's because I recall them being really really dull compared to other forged mizuno projects like the mb, mmc, mp series... Please let me know!

I've gamed the MP-33 for 15+ years. I picked up the 921 Tours 4-9 and they are not as buttery soft but are around 15 yards longer and are more forgiving. Only played 2 rounds with them so far but they'll be in the bag for at least the next 5 years. I've worked in the golf industry in the past and new tech/equipment is worth the upgrade maybe every 3-4 years. But I get it, part of the fun is new equipment. To each their own!

I took my new set out for their maiden voyage today. I didn’t play a normal round as I was just trying to hit a variety of shots and get my distances down. It was a cool, rainy, windy day here in NY so it was difficult to gauge actual distances. I felt like I was a club shorter than what I expected, but that could’ve been due to the weather.

From one tee box, with a pretty stiff cross wind, I was hitting my HMP 9 iron around 135 and the 7 iron around 170. This seems like a pretty large gap between a 9 and 7. What’s strange is that I also hit by HM 6 from the same tee box and it basically travelled the same exact distance as the HMP 7 iron.

On the following hole, dead into a stiff wind, I hit 3 separate HM 5 irons within ten feet of each other, but surprisingly my next shot with my HM 6 iron went the same exact distance. All shots were struck well.

The clubs felt great and were really fun to hit. However I was left scratching my head at some of the distances I was getting. Again, it was far from a controlled testing environment due to the weather conditions, but I just wanted to share my first experience.

Love the input! Have you tried the MP 18 and MP 20's (MMC, MB, SC???) Would love to hear a compare and contrast about those!

I Wonder why they are longer?

When I moved from scratch blades(copies of mp33) to 919 Tours I had no difference in distance.

How are people finding the turf interaction with these? Coming from the v-sole on the Srixons, I'm a little concerned these might not get through the ground as well.

I have the 585 and I was a little concerned, but to tell you the truth I have the HoTMetaL pro and I find them just as good, I’m not gonna say one is better than the other but you do not need to over think. When I got the new zip core wedges I had the same concern because I have the CBX2 and I thought there would be a huge difference but I found the ZIP Core almost more playable

Looking forward to upgrade my 825 Jpx Forged Pro to a mix of 921 Tours and Forged.

At 10Hcp and 95-98 in driver SS I think I can handle the Tours PW-8 (46,42 and 38degree of loft)

Anyone mixed these with Forged from 8 and down where the 8 has 35 in loft?

Where the Forged are more "hot" i think the distance gap will work great even if it sounds strange with 2x8s in the bag.

My wedge setup is 58,54 and 50 by the way

I hit 921 F a lot at the golf store and love the feel, distance and dispersion.

One thing I noticed is lower launch angle and lower spin. Recently changed my swing to have more forward press and it helped my direction of the ball but flight is lower than usual.

Still happy with it because it doesn't bring out my blocks and sways.

I am going to get fitted at Club champions next week and hope they don't push other brand on me.

Received the balance of my MOI matched set of 921F’s. Loving these. Playing with the 4-7-PW for two rounds allowed me to really feel the head with a lot of different shots. Very pleased as many have posted before. The 921F is such a vast improvement over the 919F I was previously gaming it’s almost like an entire new line to me.

I picked up a set of JPX 921 SEL irons in the 4-GW.  SEL stands for Special Edition Lefthanded.  It is actually a mixed set.  The 4 and 5 are the Forged model and the 6-GW are the Tour model.

It was an interesting story how I arrived at this set.  First, I had a set of P770/P7MC ordered.  But, the MCs kept getting delayed, it happened twice, so I decided to move on.  So, I went to the local PGA Tour Superstore and picked up a set of Z785 irons with Modus Tour 120 in stiff after canceling the TM irons.  Went to the range twice with them and on the course once.  They were nice, but didn't knock my socks off.  I noticed at the time I bought the Srixons, a set of JPX 921 SEL on the rack at the PGATSS.  The PGATSS has a 90 day no questions asked playability program.  So, I returned them, got a full credit, paid the cost difference, and walked out with the Mizunos.  The new irons have the KBS $-Taper stiff shafts installed.

So far I am quite pleased.  The heads are very stable and feel great.  With modern traditional lofts in the 6-PW they launch on a nice high trajectory.  Like most player's irons they have to be struck near the sweet spot to get the full distance out of the irons, but they don't punish too bad for slight mishits.  They are beautiful looking irons and I really love the way they frame the ball.  The slightly longer heel to toe look on the 4 and 5 irons (Forged models), and more forgiveness, inspire confidence.
