I picked up a set of 4-gap jpx 921 forged today.   They have modus 120 stiff. Coming from p760 with dg120 s300.

First round today was fantastic.  Slightly higher trajectory,  which I really needed.   Feel is fantastic and turf interaction is good.

Distance is even with p760.  Ball comes off with a solid thump that doesn't feel jumpy or hot, just controlled.

Forgiveness seems to be excellent.

Same distance as P760? Really?

For me,  yes.   And with a slightly better trajectory.   I had no problem sticking 6 iron on Bermuda greens.

Hmm, thought the 760 were much more weaker lofts.

I've played MCC+4 for a couple of years. They get slick too fast even if you clean them frequently. I am going MCC this time but in my experience, Lamkins last longer - that looks like a solid grip.

Last set was MCC+4s too and I found the same.

Current set has tour velvet cords. Very nice.

I got mine today. Hot metal pros 4-gw, project x lz 5.5. I bought them used but of course they look brand new. First time with these shafts and they are amazing. Really the whole iron is amazing. I’ve been swapping between 765s modus 120s and Bridgestone j40 dpcs with project x 6.0. The 921s are 1 to 1 1/2 clubs longer and launch higher than both other sets. I previously had the 919 forged with kbs tour 120s and hated them. Didn’t like any thing about the whole set up. Never could dial in the scoring irons. To me, and I know it’s subjective, but the pros feel better than the 919 forged. And it’s by a large margin.

Played 18 holes and the 921F goes one club further than my previous MP20 MMC.  The shafts are different as i went with the DG 120 Stiff hard stepped com pared to the NS Pro 105 S.  Loving the new irons.  Cant wait to get out there again.

I’m actually torn between those 2 clubs myself.  What is the reason you’re changing?  Also, how would you compare the 4 irons in terms of distance and forgiveness?  Thanks

Congrats to you guys for receiving your irons...  I was fit a few weeks ago, tried out the 921T, 921F & came out of there purchasing MP20 MMCs and from what Mizuno said, they won't even have the MMC heads until November 5th.  So I'm a little jealous.

What did you base your decision on?

Another awesome day with the jpx 921 forged.   These sticks are so good.  Better feel and sound than previous version,  imo.

No real reasoning for the change.  Being a club ho i wanted the new tours.   The 4 iron is 2* weak in loft so it fits nicely with the rest of the set.  The feel is constant like all mizunos (hot knife through butter).  Forgiving wise its hard to say since I hit so pure all the time. But for those rare occasional miss it is amazing, with hardly any loss of distance.

Do the 921 forged irons have a badge in the cavity held on by adhesive or is it something else? Hard to tell in the pictures.

It does have a badge; however, I think it is a better design.  Previous badges tended to show bag wear pretty quickly, at least they did for me.  This one seems to be tucked in a bit more.  It has a nice chrome looking trim on it as well.  Really looks good in the bag.

I love that the badge on the 4-7 irons in the Forged line also hide the cut through slot so debris can't get in behind an under the badge.  Its like that was engineered in as well for convenience.

I have a fitting planned next week.

Planning to go with P-9-8 in Tours (46-42-38 deg) and 8-7-6 in Forged (35-31-27 deg)

Anyone tried similar set up ?

I believe the gapping will be great with the Forged more "hot" and lower spin...

I'm 10 Hcp and Drivers SS 97-95

Coming from JPX825 Pro and have a wedge set up of 50-54-58 from Vokey SM6

I think you're better off bending the Forged weak and going 7/6/5. The shaft lengths would mess with me. Also the 8 and 7 are diff materials for the Forged set.

FWIW, ordered my Tour 4-PW and received them exactly 3 weeks from my order date on Oct. 9th.  I live in TX.

But I do have a question- I am coming from 716 AP1s and the Tours feel longer.  If I stand my 4 iron side by side, they are the same length but when looking from shaft to the head of the club it looks like the Tour shafts are a little longer.  I've read in a few places where they are now a quarter inch longer than standard and every OEMs measures differently...but does this mean I should go ahead and have them cut down a little from their standard?

The 921 tours were 1/4" longer than my 900 tours.

Be careful of swingweight changes.

they’re 1/4” longer.

Don’t cut them down until you have had 10 rounds with them - it’s only 1/4”.

Also as @getitdailystated it will affect your Swingweight but only 1.5-ish, so you probably want to understand where they are before they cut them down vs. Where their website says they’re supposed to be from the factory.

No, it means grip down a 1/4 inch or to where you are comfortable.

Zetazeta nailed it and that is exactly what Mizuno recommends.  I ordered a combo set of 5-6 Forged and 7-PW Tours and had similar concerns about blending the gaps in a consistent manner and I was thinking I would have to get both a Forged and Tour 6 iron (27* and 30* respectively), since the stock lofts of the Forged 6 and Tour 7 are 27* and 34* resulting in a 7* gap, but I wasn't crazy about having two clubs both marked 6 and the same shaft length.  My fitter checked with his Mizuno rep and it turns out Mizuno has recommendations for just about any combination of HM, HMP, Forged and Tours you want with the result being a consistent 4* gap between clubs.  In my set where the transition from Forged to Tour was the 6 - 7 Mizuno's recommendation was bending the 5 1* weak, the 6 2* weak, the 7-9 1* strong and leaving the PW standard resulting in 5-PW specs of 25*, 29*, 33*, 37*, 41* and 46*.  Based on the chart from Mizuno the adjustment varied depending on the clubs you choose to make the transition; i.e., the recommendations depend on whether the transition is 4-5, 5-6, or 6-7.  I didn't see a recommendation for a 7-8 transition, but I have no doubt they can adjust the lofts so you have reasonable gaps spanning 6-PW.  I think in the long run you would be better off and happier with your clubs if you go with Mizuno recommended adjusted lofts to space the gaps between the Forged and Tours.

Bottom line for anyone considering a combo set have your fitter check with Mizuno.

I remember hearing this somewhere else too, but if this is the case why do the stock sets have 5 degree loft gaps from 7 through GW?

Are they actually 1/4 inch longer than any other manufacturers current sets of irons?

I am thinking about buying a 4 and 5 Forged to combo my Tours. The 4 iron has punished me a couple of times lately.

Pretty sure in that instance I would just follow the SEL specs..?
