So what about the AVX?

They're $40 NOW because the new version is out. Same as every company when a new model is released.

IIRC they were a buck or 2 less than the ProVs when they were current. Today all 3 premium Titleists are at the same price point, $48.

Ahhhh... see I used to buy all kinds of balls on closeout, and have been away for 5 yrs and not paying attention to the golf wares at all.

I would have been on top of all this stuff previously. Never been away from the game my whole life since age 6!

FWIW, @$40/dz, I might have been apt to hang onto these new AVX and try them on course, at least. I just figure take them back for PV1 or TP5/whatever at the same price and be happier, hopefully. I originally just wanted a sleeve, which GG said would be $14 and change + tax for a sleeve, so I just dove into a dozen since they didn't even have a sleeve to sell me. Just zillions of dozens of the AVX. In this supposed golf boom, these don't seem to be getting the love based on the large stacks?

Correct. The AVX is not (yet ?) getting the love the ProVs get. But if the ball feels "awful" to you, as I felt about the FG Tours YOU love, don't even bother. It'll be in your head for every putt.

Return 'em, putt with something equivalent in the store, and buy those.

(For that matter, I'm not sure why anybody wants a soft ball that spins less, but that's another argument.)

The best I can come up with is that it's for players who want those things with a Titleist logo and don't care what that costs.  Other than that, I got nothing.

For me, I prefer the AVX (over the ProV1/ProV1x) because it is longer off the Driver/Irons for me.  Most of the courses I play don't require much spin.  The ball also performs better on mishits (especially irons). My bad misses are draws that hook too much, so lower spin is preferred.  I swing 85mph.

My friend that swings closer to 110-115 mph switched to the AVX for control.  The ball flies lower and curves less off the driver face and he finds more fairways. He generates plenty of spin with the ball off the irons, so that is not an issue.

Hope that helps.

The AVX does exactly what it says it does.  It launches lower, spins less, and "feels" softer.  As far as putting goes, I have experienced no difference from the ProV1 or ProV1x.

Everybody is different, but there has been enough feedback in this forum that many people experience distance gains with the AVX.

The 2020 version spins more around the green as Titleist promised it would.

Many people like the lower compression feel, right or wrong.

I've no experience with the 2020 AVX but the original 2018 did indeed fly lower and spin less off the irons. The lower spin seemed to give me a few more yards distance off the middle irons but at the expense of not holding greens as well.

Perhaps strangely, I did not experience any lack of spin (relative to Pro V1x) on partial shots around the greens but then again I do not play short-game shots that rely on spin if I can help it. Typically I either run the ball along the ground or loft it high with a lob wedge. No "low spinner" in my arsenal. So AVX or most other urethane balls work OK for that.

I can't comment on feel as AVX, Pro V1 and lots of other balls all seem much the same "feel" to me. Not really into the whole feel thing and certainly not off the putter for goodness sake. I can adjust to putting with any ball in about 10 minutes on the practice green.

Non, no.... I meant $40 on closeout. I didn't see any of those. Just a TALL stack of the new ones @ $48.

Again, I have awoke from a golf "coma" so to speak. 5 years. I missed the first release entirely and hadn't been following gear at all.

I’ve literally been playing ProV1 balls for twenty years. This includes ProV1x when they were released. Through all the years, I’ve always tried new balls here and there, and personally nothing beats the Prov1 balls. For twenty years and I’ve seen some amazing balls released by TaylorMade, Bridgestone and Callaway that certainly closed the gap to ProV1 in my opinion, but still never could quite surpass them to this day. I’m currently in Myrtle Beach Golfing for 9 days. This entire week been experimenting with the characteristics of the latest ProV1 vs Prov1x.. my father and I decided to play the AVX.

im very impressed. The most I’ve been impressed by a ball outside a ProvV1 ever. AVX definitely longer than the Prov1’s and seems to have nice spin green side and putts well off the scotty. I’m kinda cynical and think some equipment Is gimmicky but I stand corrected. The 2020 AVX is the real deal. No wonder they cost the same exact price as the ProV1. Wow.

I love the avx. Played prov1x for a long time before moving to the prov1 for the last 3 years. The avx is just fantastic for me. Flies lower with less spin, therefore I hit it straighter and longer. I don’t notice very much short game spin loss, although maybe a touch less with avx. (4 hdcp, so I’m not pro like consistent anyway) it spins enough for me. I do not notice any difference putting With it compared to prov1. The prov1x I do notice is firmer.

I wanted to like chrome soft as it feels comparable to avx. it spins too much compared to avx.
