Majors: More overvalued than Tesla stock

Perhaps the PGA tour should drop the Majors and just make the FedEx Cup/Tour Championship the defining moment of the season.  Problem is, they wouldn't be able to rake in the incredible amount of money, the USGA as well, they do for producing and televising a Major.

Four times something is almost always better than one.  Well, almost.

They all draw the best players in the world- the Opens, the Players and the Masters. The Masters may miss one or two but the others have tremendously strong fields and all the top players.

Masters has a pretty weak field overall considering there is only about 20-30 guys a year that have a chance to win it. Think about this year. No Berger or Morikawa.

The Masters hardly justifies anything. It's just an exclusive country club's invitational. Sure their course and tradition is enough to make the pros show up, but really it isn't the championship of anything.

The USGA and R&A are the governing stewards of golf. Their flagship championships are rightfully majors.

As is the PGA of America, whose tournament welcomed pros and was a big deal long before the tour split. If Augusta is allowed to coast off of prestige and history, surely the even-older PGA can do the same

I agree with you.  If you look at who has won just the US Open and the Open Championship, you get a really clear picture of who the best champions were/are.

With 7 each, Harry Vardon, Bobby Jones and Jack Nicklaus really stand out.

With 6, you get Walter Hagen, Tom Watson, and Tiger Woods.  There's a nice group at 5 as well; Hogan stands out (and would tell you he had 6).

Yet, amongst the pros

Its by far the most valuable

Player Preferences (based on a Sports Illustrated survey in April that asked 50 pros: “Which major would you most like to win?”):

1. Masters 50%

2. British Open 25%

3. U.S. Open 23%

4. PGA Championship 2%

Not surprised there. It is an exclusive club to belong too. You want to go into the memebers/winners lockerroom and not the other for the rest of your life.

Morikawa is playing in the Masters this year.

I guess he is. There is someone else that should be in there and isn't but uts not that big of a deal in the grand scheme. Berger is definitely a guy who could win it that isn't in but should be. They should have added a couple spots for the restart after CV19 IMO.

Maybe we should just have 3 majors! Players from outside the US and UK always have a 5th major which is their home open regardless of how insignificant it is.

Tesla is definitely overvalued if you discount the potential of them leading in Autonomous Driving AI Chip and software development. They are deep into this but it’s speculative on if they will come out on top.

If they end up just being an electric car maker, they will continue be the best and lead for some time  but I think the current stock speculation is based on them leading in the tech that shapes the future as far as truly autonomous vehicles.

As far as Majors, lol, it seems people are really talking about the PGA. Most see the Masters, US Open, and Open, as the pinnacle of golf events. But, the PGA this year was about as good as a great sports event can get. I don’t see the value on Majors changing anytime soon.
