P770 Shaft Suggestions

I am looking at getting the new p770s and needed some help with shafts. I currently have a 96 mph swing speed for driver and play steelfiber i110 stiff in my apex pro 19 irons. Everything launches high with low spin and comes down at a very steep angle. Skytrak usually gives me just above ideal range for launch and descent but red on spin. On my skytrak each iron is about 2k rpm less than the stated iron so my 6 iron is spinning around 4K rpm. I can live with the 6-pw but the 5 iron is killing me. Is there any shafts that could offer mid launch with more spin? My pro told me to look at the modus 120/105 and maybe the c taper lite.

Shafts can help some, but loft is where most of your pin comes from. Clubs have gotten progressively stronger over the years. Add that in with the head tech from the 770 which will spin less than the Apex Pro you are coming from and you are in for a worse problem with spin, and even with a shaft change(which cannot change that much) will have you even further below those spin numbers.
Getting fit is your best option, I only say this because different weight could help you deliver the club a little bit differently and add spin, but the shaft itself will not cause a bunch of difference in spin.

You should be fitting for feel/dispersion with the shaft, strike and club (loft) will do most for your spin. When you are in a good place with that shaft, you may effect spin based on strike and delivery.

SF is a good shaft, but at that SS you may want to try some softer ones as well since SF is on the stout side. You can game anything from a R to an X: its more about what works best for you.

I am in the 105 SS range and if I played a full iron set of SF I would likely soft step them at S or possibly hit the R based on testing.

If you like graphite try a few others such as Recoil, KBS proto, and Accra 110 or 105 CWT to name a few if you can. Its fun :)

Have you or anyone really hit them extensively? They were only just announced so while some people have probably had a chance to demo them, I'm assuming the majority of people don't have experience with the heads to see what kind of launch characteristics they create.

Iron headcovers: wait, what?

The feedback system is annoying

The new p770 is actually more traditionally lofted than something like the p790. 6i is only 29 degrees. So you might get the additional spin just from the new heads.
However, I really enjoy the c taper lite in my irons. Have switched to those from $ tapers. Definitely a little more spin, possibly because the lighter shaft increased head speed a tad

Well after two rounds with them and a little testing in the skytrak (I know that it isn’t as accurate as some would like) and Mevo, I am finally getting comfortable with the shafts. My pro talked me into getting the modus 105 stiff.  At the beginning the clubs were around 20 yards short of normal (150-155 7i with apex pro 135ish with p770) but still online.

But after the two rounds I think I am finally figuring the shaft out and am getting normal distances. The shafts don’t really want to go left or right, they were just short. I’m finding I can’t make as aggressive of a swing as normal. But with a more smooth tempo, seems to work well. Anyone else have an experience where you have to “learn” the club. I’m feeling it might not be the club for me since I can’t swing my normal swing but the results get better each time I swing them.

In the shafts I have tested myself in the past few years I am not that sensitive to feel: only when something just is off do I not like it.

Never did I need to change how I swung, that is the opposite effect. Unless you are working on correcting a flaw, your swing is your swing and the magic of fitting is to get something that works with you not against you.

I wager the clubheads are not the problem: its how you deliver it. Clubheads are vanity items really: how you like the look and feels. Not that there's anything wrong with that (dare I get banished from WRX ? )
