Stonebridge

I played Stonebridge yesterday and it is one of my favorite courses in the area. However, this year has been very unkind and many of the fairways are in rough shape, fully browned out and flattened to tight lies. I was disappointed to look at my receipt after the round to see that they were still charging full freight under these conditions. I will definitely be staying away until next year and even then only after I hear that the course is back in good shape.

This is my ball in the middle of the 18th fairway, 130 out.

Wow what a shame Stonebridge was my favorite course in NH. I moved to California 5 years ago, but I always play Stonebridge when I come home to visit. I like the variety of long / short holes, dogleg lefts and rights, and uphill / downhill holes.

 

With the fairways burnt out the tee shot on 10 must be even harder than it normally is. I can just visualize a ball going right down the middle running right through the dead fairway and into the trees on the left.

 

The only thing I didn't like about that place was getting stuck behind one of those dump trucks always going up and down route 114 haha.

The worst impact for me was on the par 5 14th. I hit a 4 iron dead center and it rolled left all the way into the trees.

Same exact thing happened to me on that hole when the place first opened. The turf was not mature yet and very firm and my drive went right up the middle and rolled left all the way into the trees. My favorite holes were 6, 7, 8, 12, 18. The 15th hole used to drive me crazy and I normally love dogleg lefts.

 

As a footnote that property used to be a junkyard and it was a pretty common experience to see oil coming up from underground. On 3 occasions I saw little spots of oil coming up from under the fairway. One of those occasions time my tee shot came to rest in it in the fairway on 14.

I am coming home for a visit in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if Stonebridge is in better condition this year?

Played there last Sunday as my brother was home and loves it. I am happy to say it was in good condition.
