Callaway Bertha B21 line

Update: So I pulled the stock shaft and tried the B21 with the Aldila Rogue White shaft in 65 gram stiff. What a nice combo! A little more stout than the RCH it came with. The Rogue White gives the B21 a nice solid feel and tightens it up a bit.

Great driver. Very fast and long. So glad I gave it a tryout.

Glad to hear.  I actually took out my B21 this past weekend with my Rogue White 60 R from my Mav Max.  The B21 is still such an interesting driver, and I am not giving up on it, but I cannot seem to get it totally figured out.  It still wants to fade a bit more than I like.  Seems odd considering the B21's claims, but I don't turn it over all that well.  I actually find the Mav Max and standard Mav easier to turn over.

I was hitting the TM Sim Max D more consistently than the B21 this past weekend.  But due to the low spin and high launch characteristics of the B21, when it connects, it is long.  It merits more testing, and I have plenty of Callaway shafts around to see if I can dial it in.  It is simply not as "point and shoot" as other drivers in my stable.  B21 seems a bit more fickle.  YMMV.

I'm still loving the B21 with Speeder Evo IV. I'm sure I'll tinker with one of the new 2021 drivers, but for right now this is the most consistent driver I've ever owned.

This driver has me intrigued huge........

I Fight a hook and have been paranoid to try it

Haven't had a Callaway driver in the bag since the "V" series...hated the Epic and hook the Mav Max off the planet....

Honestly, I just don’t see this as a hook machine.  I am going to keep working on this one, because when it connects, it truly is long.  I don’t have monitor numbers to confirm, but swing for swing, it must be the low spin on this driver.  That low spin has been shown on any review I’ve seen for the B21.

Heading out shortly for some time with the B21 and my Sim Max D that I am also enjoying.  Threw a Speeder Evo III 569 S/R into the B21 for today.  I’ll try to report back what it does today.

Promising day out there with the B21 today.  I was with a couple of buddies, so I couldn’t do my “winter golf” thing, bringing out a bunch of shafts, changing settings, etc.  I had my one setup with the 9* B21, Speeder Evo III 569 S/R, +1/N.

I felt like I was finally able to tame the beast and see what the B21 is capable of.  No fades really to speak of, which had been the tendency with other shafts I had tried with it.  No real draws either, and definitely no hooks.  It was essentially one cut after another, which is my preferred shot shape.  Problem was, as a lefty, my cuts were starting a bit far right for my course setup, but this was a step in the right direction.  Distance was very good.  I’ll continue to work with the B21 to dial it in.  YMMV.

For the right players the B21 is an amazing driver. Very very underrated in my mind. If you fight spin and a bit of a high right ball this thing could be a god send..

I guess winter setting in isn't helping testing and chatter about the B21 driver, but I have taken advantage of a mild winter to get out on several occasions with my B21.  I believe I am finally cracking the code of the B21 to start seeing what it can do.

I played the Mavrik and Mav Max extensively last season, so I started out approaching the B21 in a similar vein, shaft-wise and the like.  I don't know how much of a generality one can draw from my experience, but I have found pretty consistently that for me, the B21 "wakes up" with a bit of a heavier and stiffer shaft.  I got some ideas from messaging with some members here that helped along the way.

I have some shafts around where I have both the regular and stiff in the same shaft, Rogue White 60 and Graphite Design G 60 for example.  Whereas I might have gone with the regular flex in the Mavrik, I am finding that the B21 works better with the stiffer variant.  I have experienced that with both the Rogue White and G series.  Shaft fitting still matters though, as some other stiffer shafts I tried with the B21 did not work quite as well.

Anyway, I am pleased that I seem to be dialing in the B21, and it was terrific this past weekend.  One round with the Rogue White 60 S, one round with the GD G 60 S.  I suppose the B21 will now be overshadowed by the new Epic releases (who knows, maybe me also), but don't sleep on the B21.  The B21 feels and sounds great, is very forgiving, and gets the ball out there due to its low spin.  YMMV.

Having fun with shafts. Put a Diamana BF 60S in the B21 and it also works great. I like this driver so much more than the Mavrik or the Epic Flash SZ. B21 cuts spin with its weight forward design but remains so forgiving, feels excellent and explosive. Key for me has been going with a little lower torque and stiffer shaft than the stock.

Since the B21 line has been out a while now and there a bunch of new drivers in market. How many are staying with the B21? It will be interesting to see how ppl actually stay with the driver and mot move on.

I think it will depend on how much pro shops and big box stores push the B21, but I can see it totally getting lost in the shuffle.  It came out at an odd time, towards the end of the golf season for much of the country.  The Mavrik line had longtime traction.  The new Epic line is now out.  To say nothing of the new Pings, Taylormades, etc.

I barely got any rounds in with my B21 before the weather turned, and I have not played one real round with the B21 since I sort of got it figured out and dialed-in (it seems to work much better for me with a stiffer shaft).  So, my eye is wandering of course, with a foot of snow on the ground for the foreseeable future.  That said, pound for pound, I can still see the B21 in my bag next season.  It really is a unique driver if you can dial it in, with its forgiveness and low spin.

My suspicion is that the B21 will take on a similar status to the BB Fusion, which attained a bit of a cult status amongst enthusiasts, but never seemed to gain much traction mainstream.

How do you like the G series 60R ?  Is it a pretty high launching shaft ?  Currently I play the Riptide 50 5.5 in my Flash and Mavrik but have always been curious about the G series. I like the made for Tour Edge version in my Xrail hybrids.

I like the G series.  Not as flashy as other GD shafts, but a solid shaft IMHO.  I would call it mid-high launch.  I played the 60 R for some time last season in my standard Mavrik 10.5* with success.  I also had the 60 S around that I had picked up cheap from CPO a couple of years ago, and that worked better for me as the season wore on, and especially in the B21 head (as noted, that seems to want a stiffer shaft).  The 60 S is still smooth, but lowers my launch and spin a bit.

And in true WRX fashion, I have now ordered an X flex G series from Dallas Golf before they disappear for good, being only $50.

Cool thanks for the info. Have you ever tried their YS Nano Reloaded ?  I had some success with it last year in my SX Xtreme driver

I had actually e-mailed GD for some info on the newer shafts similar to the G Series 60 R, and they sent me the below e-mail.  The Nano Reloaded is pretty close to the G Series.  I actually did end up trying the Nano RL Six-R, but it didn't totally click.  I might have been better off with the 60 S.  And note that with my B21, though the Rogue White 60 S is in my sig, the GD G 60 S was neck and neck.  Then the snow came...

Thank you for your continued interest in Graphite Design golf shafts.  Here are some spec. details pertaining to the options that you would have.  Actually, the YS Nano Reloaded Six-R flex would be your best bet given we no longer manufacture the G-Series product.  I have attached the spec sheet for the YS Nano Reloaded shafts to this e-mail.  Should you have any other questions or need help location a dealer, please let me know.

No plans to change. I dialed in my B21 with a Diamana BF 60S shaft and slightly higher sole weight. Has the latest flash face like the other Callaways. Nice launch, low spin, excellent distance, easy to aim and keep in play. Has performed great in several rounds I’ve played it.

I switched the rear weight to a 12g from 5G and that indeed woke up the driver.
