Rolling Hills Country Club or other South Bay Los Angels County clubs ...

Anyone have any information on Rolling HIlls CC?  I may be moving to the area and interested in the club (the site looks amazing).

Haven't played since the re-do, but supposed to be fantastic.  Price went from ~$60k before to close to or over $200k after.

palos verdes GC likely far more affordable init wise. its also notably more affordable if you live in palos verdes estates. you also got virginia cc in Long Beach, but not sure how obtainable membership is there nor what the init fee is. i say that because on the club website, there's no place to even ask for membership info.

PVGC is $70K initiation if not a PVE resident. I believe it's half of that if you live in PVE.  Not 100% sure on Virginia CC but I think it's in the same ballpark.  Rolling Hills is really nice (their clubhouse/facilities are ridiculous) but also insanely priced (although not for LA area).  I really like both PVGC and Virginia CC.  Great, old style courses with smaller greens.  Old Ranch just off the 405 near Seal Beach is reasonably priced and a decent golf course with good amenities.  Not much in/near the South Bay unless you're willing to drop 6 figures.

do PV & virginia allow for incremental payments of their inititaions for those under 40 or 35 etc the way other well-known LA clubs do?

great question. my understanding is this is an option only if you are a jr member.  however, if you are joining as full member I do not believe they will do this.  I could be wrong and who knows how 'negotiable' they may be considering the current economic environment.

Thank you all for the insights.  Sounds like Rolling Hills is crazy money - but read that they are also a true equity club.  Which is meaningful if you can actually get your money back out.

 

Virginia CC looks like the perfect club - and I love that neighborhood.  But I kind of assumed that they were not looking for new members, more of a "legacy" club.  Am I wrong?

Anyone who relies upon "getting one's money back" out of a country club equity membership isn't behaving in a fiscally responsible manner.

I will shorten this up ... "anyone that belongs to a country club" ... isn't behaving in a fiscally responsible manner.  I was just noting that the initiation doesn't (or isn't supposed to) just go up in smoke like at my current non-equity club.

Have to disagree with that. If you can afford it, country club membership can be a very cost-effective decision for its recreational and social benefits; it certainly has been for me. But don't expect a dime of the expenditure to come back to you.

I always Google clubs that are mentioned in a thread.  Rolling Hills is an awesome looking course.  Virginia CC is also a great looking course, but .... they say on their website that it is the most exclusive club in the area.  Joining will not be a call-and-ask process.  Rolling Hills at least has a process where there might be a possibility.
