Most expensive putter you've ever gamed?

Recommended Posts

I bought this Cameron from a guy in the UK way back in 2010. Was pretty sure I had taken some better photos of it but all I could find were these ugly mug shots.

The guy I bought it from suggested a CS refinish but I liked the patina and finish wear. Plus, those qualities made it easier to game from a psychological standpoint. It did take a trip back to Cameron for a new shaft, CT shaft label and grip. Sadly, I never got comfortable with the top line sight line. I played it for maybe a year and have no idea what I replaced it with.

I think I paid $720 shipped from the UK. That's about what every club in my current bag, and the bag itself, cost me.

Yes, I wish I still had it.

I know a lot of you have to have gamed MUCH more expensive putters so tell me about them.

No rack queens...I just want to hear about your big-dollar gamers.

Cheers.

Paul

Oh boy a pissing contest, this could get entertaining.

I haven't paid a lot for some of my higher end putters, now what they're actually worth or what they're worth new is a totally different story and I can't really price that out.

The L.A.B. Golf tech works well for me.  I'm in to my Directed Force 2.1T for about five bills at this point with the re-shaft, re-weight, re-grip and sight line change I had them do on a used one I found on the bay.  But for me, since it is used roughly twice as much as a driver during each round, I think a putter has every right to be the priciest club in the bag.

I have $400 Toulon Atlanta on the way. It will be put in play.

I'm sure that's small $$$ on this site.

I've toyed with the idea of spending up to $650-700 for a custom, but I'd be bummed if it didn't work for me....

Yeah, my original idea was to ask about the cheapest putter ever gamed (which in my case would have been my trusty $29 SeeMore FGP) but somehow this seemed more fun.

No knock on the idea, could be interesting. Seems like WRX'ers are a bit more realistic in spending than some people i follow on Instagram who must have F-you money for the putters they buy and often.

Think I've seen one or two really big dollar (to me anyway) Cameron Tour putters actually being played. Thing I noticed was the guys who played them couldn't putt worth a poop. Still, those babies (especially the one 009 I saw) looked nice. I'm an average putter but I never made much with my CT Cameron. I make a lot more putts with my SeeMores.

Of course, putters are like underwear...there's no accounting for taste.

My current gamer (edit: didn’t realise signatures were off so it’s a t22 Newport). I’d sold my previous Newport 2 a few years back and was looking for a new club as an alternative to my fastback. Tried this and loved it, been putting lights out (under thirty putts a round) average ever since.

i also agree with the earlier comment about putters. At my course I only need my driver 6/7 times so it makes sense to spend as much as necessary on a putter you feel happy and comfortable with.

If a putter would guarantee that WOW moment I’d gladly spend $500.  Unfortunately I still piss away $100-$125 a month test driving last years latest greatest ball rolling machines. Ultimately - its the archer, less the arrow.  I need professional help.

Spend that $100-125 on a lesson vs another putter. Problem solved.

Button Back NP2 is my most expensive single stick I've bought. Got it new in 08 and kept it in untouched condition until about mid 2014. Still in my rotation of gamers.

Great putter, and the best thing is it keeps growing in value to boot!

$700-800 / Bettinardi’s ,custom bb8 and zero , cheap in the CT cameron world Comparatively

as someone mentioned , any more $$$ than that I would have issue leaving it sit anywhere even at a high end club.   Like a 5k circle T , I think I’d have a Warrior Putter cover on it

I currently have 50+ putters, mostly Ping, and I have never paid more than $50 for any of them (except for the Brainstorm).  So, that adds up to a chunk of change.  Would I trade any of them for a high-end Scotty/Tulon/Byron?   I doubt it, but would only do it as a financial investment.

I enjoy the process of playing different putters, not the investment or art-form.

That being said,  I Certainly value the craft and fiscal value that goes into hyper-expensive putters.  It looks cool, but I doubt it would justify the results.

I have finally found an ugly POS that works for me.

A 2010 Ping Wolverine-C  Scottsdale that has been beat to hell.  The black finish has been worn nearly to complete buffed silver.  The face has weird black lines on it.

It took me $2000+ to find a lump of coal that I love.

I took a GSS 009 out for a spin a few times.  It was used when I bought it so it didn't bother me to game it.  I just had to see what the hype was all about but as I predicted, I didn't like it any better than my SS or (especially) my carbon 009's, so I sold it.  I would rather buy 2 SS or carbon 009's for the same price (or less) as 1 GSS.

My 4 main gamers in the rotation right now are:
Carbon 009 w/ topline
CT Newportbeach SS  w/ topline (from early 2000's era)
Toulon Austin w/  topline
Tad Moore Pro 1 TS carbon w/ a beautiful oilcan finish from BOS

So my gamers range from around $4K to $100.00 bucks.
And the thing is, I putt just as well with the Tad Moore as I do the 009.

Probably a P5. Looked lovely but I putted woefully with it. I used it for two or three rounds then got rid of it. I have Timeless Two which I've never used. My problem is I like fat grips and mallets and I don't see the point getting a really expensive putter for that. I've used my Kombi S mainly for the last few years, I'd love to use a Newport style head but I have the spiy so need a bigger head.

Bought a "boutique" putter for something like $325, supposedly customized to my specs. One problem was the specs were quite a bit off. But it didn't really matter as it was a style of putter (flow neck with about 5:00 toe hang) that it turns out I can't putt a lick with. Didn't visually suit me and I felt like that heavy toe was fighting me on every putt longer than 4-5 feet.

My bad for buying it. Tried it for a couple months, put it in the closet for a year, tried it for another couple months, sold it on for less than half of what I'd paid. Not the worst money-losing useless golf purchase ever but darned close.

I went back to play $35 eBay Ansers with the boring and ugly plumbers neck. They work for me and I can keep a whole bag full of them for what that fancy hand-made one cost.
