Is Taylormade now crap

Recommended Posts

I really don’t think any brand (of the bigger ones) make anything that is junk any more.

in the past I would be able to give you strengths and weaknesses of each OEM, but they are all really good anymore.

I don’t like the look af Cally stuff, but it’s not junk.... just really “round”, lol. Ping and Titleist suit my eye better, but my best driving season was with a TMag driver.  One that I would not have bought for myself, it was a gift.

Moral of the story, these companies are producing a lot of product, there will be defects.  They ALL have really good warranties and customer service.   You’re safe to play what you hit best.

I am feeling sorry for Tiger, Rory, Dustin, Jon and the rest of the TM boys playing this crap! ?

Mark, is that you?

While I don't think TaylorMade's products are crap, I do think they missed the mark on this new product. I LOL'd when I saw it.

I kind of suspect everything (not just golf clubs) is coming from China.

Does anybody manufacture their stuff elsewhere.

I am leaning towards Titleist, ping  or Callaway.

Is it standard to ask that the specs be verified at time of purchase?

Yes Miura, Endo (Epon), Tourstage, XXIO all make their high end clubs in Japan. Some lower end Endo forgings are made elsewhere - maybe Indonesia.

I believe Titleist, Ping and Callaway clubs are made in China.

Bridgestone irons were Endo forged for years, I am not sure if they are still Endo forged or not, but they were.

It's like someone wrote this as a joke and they decided to go with it.  Dude, you going to putt?  In a minute.  I'm lining up the mustaches just right.

Strategically placed mustache graphics frame the TaylorMade logo and TP5 stamp to form ClearPath Alignment™ and provide immediate feedback once the ball is rolling. The only way to see it is to play it.

Gross margin on TM clubs is not high - and manufacturers are struggling. One way to close the gap is to soften quality standards which means more substandard stuff will make it through (less inspection - more sampling) ... not saying that is what is happening here, just a consideration.

The TM stuff that pros get is special spec, closer inspected ...not the same commodity stuff that the public gets. I do recall gaming a Super-Tri driver and an R9 4 wood 9 or 10 years ago ... super solid build quality back then.

This quality deal may be the case for other OEMs ... anybody seeing crappier new Titleist, Ping, Callaway, Mizuno, etc. products?

I don't see why it's so controversial of a statement. Just a few years ago they released the M2 irons with notorious face-caving and speed-slot issues. They were absolute GARBAGE, and every retailer was flooded with RMAs and returns. Ask around... or Google.

The Taylormade "response" was not a recall or apology. It was adding "RIBCOR technology" to next year's M4 release. They had a whole advertising campaign about the tech and its "increased speed", when the actual reason for it WAS TO PREVENT YOUR f****** FACES FROM CAVING IN THE FIRST TIME THEY WERE USED.

They can be a s*** company and also be capable of making serviceable equipment for professionals. They make their money off of you, not them.

I have the newer Sim Max irons.   I love them.   I previously had the M4 and was told they were discontinuing them because of the many warranty issues.

Every manufacturer has issues.   Look at the auto industry and their many recalls.   How many times have you seen the blue screen of death on Windows computers?   It happens.   The better manufacturers try to minimize these mistakes.

I think just the opposite, their entire lineup is awesome right now. I really love all my TM clubs, and eyeing up the Sim Max and new DHY at the moment.

Seemed like Callaway overtook them for a couple of minutes but Taylormade looks back on top of the golf world from what I can tell.

Callaway BB Fusion – 10°

Seems like the feeling around my club is that the quality of Taylormade has really declined. Chinese crap, specs way off, breakage are are few of the comments I have heard. I will be shopping for irons in the off season and am thinking not to even look at Taylormade.

Is it really true what I have heard?

I second some others that some stuff has missed the mark but others haven't. I demoed some TM stuff at my local shop, and I was a big fan of the SIM driver. I know it's been getting a lot of hype since a lot of TM guys have won recently, so I did have pretty high expectations when I teed a ball up to try it out. I took an easy swing to loosen up and the ball shot off the face. I did hit a few hooks/slices of the 20 or so I hit, but I hit many solid and felt the SIM lived up to the hype.

I am in the market for new irons, so I've demoed a lot of irons in the last couple of weeks. I hit the TaylorMade P790 along with the Mizuno MP18 MMCs, Callaway Apex, Ping i210 and i500, Titleist T100, T100S, and T200. The P790s were by far the worst iron set I tested in terms of feel. I know the big thing about the P790 was the introduction of speedfoam inside the iron, and I definitely felt the foam in there while demoing, and not in a good way. Every ball I hit, good or bad, I felt the foam rattle/wiggle inside the iron and it made me feel like I wasn't hitting it well, but most turned out to be fairly long and straight shots. I may attribute it to it being a demo set or maybe they have been hit so much that its lost performance, but they definitely let me down after how nice the SIM driver felt.

TM is releasing a lot of box sets these days.  But I do enjoy the sim max and once I got my hands on a hybrid bent flat enough and some hotmelt in the toe it was as good as the  g410 hybrid.

Too funny we talk about stuff in China is crap but yet under our noses, most of the stuff we use has some connection to either being initially made there or completely originates from there. Taylor made is one of the big 4 that really can mess up and still be around. All they do is put stuff out there that hmmmm most of the top players actually use regardless of if they get compensated or not. They have a big enough following to not even care if you hear some deep down Taylormade haters mention that they think their stuff is junk. I for one have loved Taylormades offering. Some were homeruns and some were strike outs. With all that happening, they are still around.

Tourstage are Endo forged high end clubs from Bridgestone, I think Bridgestone forged irons are Thai Endos.

Tourstage as a Bridgestone sub brand for clubs died at the end of 2013/start of 2014 as everything was then branded as Bridgestone going forward. Not sure how the Tourstage name is relevant in discussing where clubs are produced currently.

The OP wants clubs that are made somewhere other than China. That was an option.

I've just decided to translate this to "a couple idiots at my club bought SIMs off of Wish.com and are upset that they sound like aluminum siding". ?

Their new P7MB, P7MC, & 770’s loom freaking awesome and I don’t have a single TM club. Not a fanboy and outright laughed at the Truss putter line. But with the SIM metal woods and their new iron line, I’d think TM is crushing it lately.
