I was never a big fan of Taylormade mostly due to their "Gain 10-15 yards on your drives" every time a new driver was introduced.  Previously, I was dedicated mostly to Mizuno irons and Ping Driver/Woods.  But, I was looking for a change this year since I was losing distance as I am getting older (66).  I tried the M6 driver and fairway wood last year and liked them.  When the Sim product line was introduced, I went to a fitting and loved them. I now carry Sim Max Driver, 5 wood, 7 wood, 5 hybrid and 6 hybrid.

As for irons, I had a love hate relationship with the 2017 P790's.  Loved the 5-8.  But thought the 9-P felt "dead".  So, I traded them off.  I then tried a set of 2019 P790's and thought the feeling was more consistent.  But hated the flight.  It led me to using Mizuno HMB's.

I was reading an article about the Nippon Steel 950GH Neo giving more height to compensate for hollow headed irons.  That shaft fully transformed the new P790 for me.  When Taylormade had their 150% trade in, I cleaned out the closets and now have 2 sets of P790's - one in the NS 950GH and another in Mitsubishi MMT graphite for when the old arms and hands are aching.  I'm keeping the HMB's, because I still love them.  I just reshafted them in Paderson graphite shafts because I had them in the back of the closet unused and I like to tinker.  But, mostly, the 790's and Sim Max have taken over my current bag.

So, if Taylormade is selling crap, then I want more just like them.  I do think this is a pointless thread that I should not have responded.  ?

Taylormade drivers and fairway woods have definitely declined.  They now don't expect the club to last longer than 2 years.  Anyone who plays golf knows multiple people who have had the top of their TM fairway wood or driver become dislodged.  They are VERY poorly made.  They will replace it until the two year mark, then you are out of luck.  A golf club should last longer than 2 years.  These new clubs are trash.  As for the comments about the tour pros - they can play a new club every week - they don't need a club to last longer than two years.  They hit well while they last, but are not made to last.  I don't buy a new driver every year, so I won't buy another Taylormade.

Wait…..you’re telling me people on this site actually play the same driver for more than 2 years? 🫤

I did not think they played the same one for more than 2 rounds. Forget 2 months…. You lose your membership card on this site if you may the same equipment for 2 years….

I am telling you, best WRX tournament ever….. you can bring as many clubs as you want, but you can only play each club for 1 shot. And yes…. You can go to your trunk at the turn to restock with new sticks.

I have zero stake in Taylormade, but I doubt you'll find any manufacturer that will outright replace broken clubs years after manufacturing regardless of what the warranty claims are.

There's always going to be a trade off for ever thinner faces, new materials and designs.  If you want the latest and greatest, you're gonna be exposed to new potential defects and durability issues whether it is a result of planned obsolescence, or design trade-offs in durability to achieve a specific level of performance at a targeted production cost.

None of this in a specific defense of Taylormade (personally not a fan), but I don't think their QC is much different from most other big companies mass producing clubs these days.

There are a few manufacturers that will replace broken clubs  outright.  Ping and Callaway will (Ping will for sure--had my own experience with a 3+ year old driver they replaced).  I think all major OEM's will replace outright within the warranty period, assuming the club was not abused.  If somebody smashes their driver against a tee box or tree, they may not cover it.  But under normal use (and not idiocy) they will.  Ping has no warranty per se.  But they replaced a cracked Rapture driver for me in late 2010/early 2011.  I bought the club in late 2007.  Granted it had very little use, but I reached out to see if they would/could do anything.  They offered me  anew Rapture head, a Rapture V2 or G10.  I took the Rapture v2. They had no obligation to replace the club.

I think all OEM's make quality products.  I tend to think the 2-year warranty is to keep people from abusing returns/replacements.  Most look at warranty claims on a claim-by-claim basis.

Seems like the feeling around my club is that the quality of Taylormade has really declined. Chinese crap, specs way off, breakage are are few of the comments I have heard. I will be shopping for irons in the off season and am thinking not to even look at Taylormade.

Is it really true what I have heard?
