Looking for 4i alternative in Mizuno JPX919f set - utility iron?

Hi,

I love my set of Mizzy JPX919F with Project X LZ 115 steel shafts. I can hit the 5i okayish, but the 4i would be too testing for me. Hence I'd love to put something in the bag with the same shaft (for same feel) but easier launch and more forgiveness. Was thinking about the MP20HMB or Srixon U85. Real Hybrids do not really work for me, they tend to go left and I don't like the look at address. Also, hardly any hybrid can be fitted with PX LZ steel shaft. Thoughts?

Thanks

I play the 919f and recently got a 919 hot metal pro 4i with a slightly lighter shaft. Easy to elevate and I’m happy with the results

Interesting. I have tried the regular 919 Hot Metal and it just felt dead in comparison to the forged.

Definitely agree, I hated the regular hot metal. The HMP has a similar feel to the forged without added offset. I have kbs tour v in my other irons to keep height down, but went with tour 90 in the 4i (110g vs 102g) to increase height.

I’ve been playing the 919F this season and love them. I added the 20HMB 3 iron for tee shots and absolutely love it. Definitely worth trying the 4 iron in that model.

What shaft are you using? Same as in the rest of irons? Do you feel comfortable hitting the 20HMB off the deck? That's what's concerning me a bit.

The shaft in my 20HMB is the Modus 120 while I have the Modus 125 in the 4-PW 919 Forged, all shafts are stiff flex.  As far as I can tell, the same shaft.  I am not comfortable hitting it off the deck right now.  I bought it and use it for tee shots and then use either my 4 iron or hybrid off the deck.  I don't carry a 3 wood.

Thanks. I now went for the Srixon U85 23 degrees with a PX LZ 110 shaft (instead of 115 in the irons). From what I've read, the U85 is easier to launch off the deck than the HMB. It is much beefier after all.

This...

I have a combo set of 5/6 HMB and 7-P MMC.  I tried the 4 HMB ( along w a Mizuno HMP/Titleist U510/enter multiple hybrids here), but couldn't get the proper height or forgiveness.  I ended up w a Srixon U84 23* and love it.

I got my Srixon Z U85 with a PX LZ 110 shaft in the meantime and first range-impressions are excellent! Sits square like an iron, no bulge and roll, feels and sounds fine and launch is no issue. Doesn't want to go left.

Regarding the Fli Hi's, I just can't get over their looks.

Had this same issue with the set 4 iron for my JPX 919F.  Ended up adding a Titleist U510 4 iron to my set.  A bit chunky, but very forgiving.

Well, since this thread has been revived...  The JPX Fli-Hi hybrids are the direct iron replacement for this line and are long, hot, easy to hit and not draw biased.  Worth a try even if you hate hybrids.

Why didn't you consider the Hot Metal or Hot Metal Pros to blend with your Forged set?  I'm just OK with my 5 iron too, but I'm so much better with the Fli-Hi's in the 4 & 5 slots.  I play forged as well, but much prefer the easy of use and consistency over any soft feel.

I have a U45 for the tee and had a U85 as well; I find then way too chunky to make clean contact off the turf.
