Monte's new No Turn - Cast

Hawkeye77

Recommended Posts

@MonteScheinblum I was hoping you could clear something up for me. I was watching D4D again last night and you mentioned how too often people try to gain speed from the top when the speed comes more from adding speed from P5/P6 positions. (Although you demonstrate more of a yanking motion from top instead of throw)

I've been using the cast A to try and generate more clubhead speed with driver -- I throw my hands as hard as I can (I don't throw that hard with irons until I do cast B).

Should my cast A with driver be more gradual? Or does throwing hard from the top generate more speed? I'm primarily concerned about the speed aspect -- generally, my driver does OK.

You’re talking personal feels.  I can only comment on results of those.

Those two videos have different perceptions on how to keep the center of mass from coming out early

I’ve been working on this drill with limited success, part of my issue is I have limited wrist mobility in both wrist. My question is looking in a mirror at the start of my transition if I push my right towards the ball by rotating in my shoulder socket it drops the hands into a shallower position than I can achieve by trying to rotate my wrist. I have only worked on this statically. Does this sound like a viable approach or will it cause more issues down the road? TIA

Video from today’s range session. Apologies for the distance from the camera and the transition was poor but the primary focus was getting the hands into a deeper position.

You are getting depth by pulling arms across the body and limiting forearm rotation - arms move across while body rotates - note right elbow pointing behind you at p3 - out of synch and requires you to lift to get to the top.     Right leg straightens too much and right hip depth limited too - at p5 your right knee should be about same bent as left, yours isn’t close.      Transition is a natural reaction to motions preceding.

all compensations after here - consider how you would hit a shot from there.

Need hips centered over ankles at setup, better right hip depth with less right knee extension, and allow some forearm rotation in takeaway ( some not the exaggerated little that you are doing now).     Hands over or just outside toes at  p2 .

Thanks for the feedback, I thought the right leg straightened in the NTC during transition, maybe I misunderstood this from the videos?

If I'm honest I think I need to go and see a suitable pro as all I've done now is confuse everything.

Work on things in the correct order. Until you can get to P3 in a decent position everything else will be a compensation. Get that right and you're going to find P4 and transition so much easier.

Knee straightens a bit - amg has measured it around 5*-10* from where it starts.  Left knee works out to toes and doubles in flex.

If none local Monte’s online live is well worth it.

Open question: was working on the backswing earlier, just feeling the wrists set, taking it a little outside the hands. Found shank city. Made sure lead wrist was in flexion going back, tried to feel more flexion going down but just can’t get the face on the ball when I go “wrist set” as the swing trigger. Anyone else deal with this?

i think from that short of backswing, you need to only do cast B, otherwise there isn’t time to square clubface

Been working on the NTC and also got Drive 4 Dough. This is a staycation week, so got in 3 rounds. Driver in particular had been atrocious all of 2020. Tops or pull hooks. Picked up on Monte because his videos reinforced what my coach was working on. First rounds this week were rough. Then videoing my swing to see how was doing with NTC showed how bent over my posture was. I feel like I’m standing upright, but video shows good posture. Allows the cast to work shallow enough for me on the driver. Hit high draws all round today, best 280. Also going to have to do a gapping session, flew green by 10 yards with a soft pitching wedge

I have yet to read through the whole thread, but it’s this a video that would be good to help someone who’s extremely steep on the downswing?

I had an online lesson from Monte a year or two ago, but I have since lost access to that video. Thinking of buying these videos and taking new online lessons from him.

Put it this way, if you implement what is taught in the video you cannot possibly be steep on the downswing.

I was about to post again and say I asked a real turd of a question. I watched and read more on it today and it’s pretty much a no-brainer that this should fix being too steep. I’m going to buy it.

Holy sh$t it works. I was very skeptical...but the ball don’t lie.

I have a long swing, past parallel with a flip. I’ve managed to work it pretty well this year using Mr Clements “throw”. Hit my irons very well, 7 iron 175 but just no real consistency over 18 and for some reason NO speed on driver.

Watched the NTC series. Messed around on my skytrak in my garage. Within 10 minutes I was hitting beautiful draws that went just as far as my normal swing. The best part...I was making a complete stop after backswing...checking myself in mirror and then going from there.

like others have mentioned...I think the backswing is most of this for me, I don’t know what I have been doing with this overswing for last 5 years.

Excited to try the driver tomorrow’

Man, you're SO right about that. I did that for years and only realised it when I saw myself on video. I was like, "You know where the club is going, Dean, there's no need to watch it get there, FFS!".

Sean Foley on this exact thing, this morning.

Adopting this mindset, I have the feel I need to get where I want to be, it's just going to take time to make the change. Seeing a lot of positive signs in my striking even though it's not looking how I would want it to in a perfect world. Some from my range session below, one thing I noticed (could be the angle) is that I look a little too stacked to the left? I’m wondering if I need more upper body turn earlier.
