Don’t get in that habit of watching on the way back. It’s terrible and a hard habit to break.

Yeah I know Monte it started from when I smacked the ceiling with a sand wedge, I’m already in trouble for wearing out the rug and destroying several light bulbs and fittings:-) makes my hips open more then when I’m on the course as well. I’ve developed a Nicklaus head tilt when I play so I need to pack it in before it gets past that.

Should I stick with practising the cast A? I’m worried if I try and get the chest more open I will go back to square one. I hate having the shaft under the right arm so soon.

Adopting this mindset, I have the feel I need to get where I want to be, it's just going to take time to make the change. Seeing a lot of positive signs in my striking even though it's not looking how I would want it to in a perfect world. Some from my range session below, one thing I noticed (could be the angle) is that I look a little too stacked to the left? I’m wondering if I need more upper body turn earlier.

No expert as you can tell from my swing above but your arms in the last still look pretty collapsed like you’re pulling your elbows into the torso.

@MonteScheinblum  From the one range session I've had, I've noticed big improvements in both my irons and my driver.  So thanks for that.

One quick question though, does NTC translate to driver well?   It seemed to from personal experience, as it helped me hit more from the inside it felt, but I was wondering if I would be much better off using something else specifically for driver.  Are there any bad habits that NTC might be creating specifically in a driver swing or anything like that?

I've been working the new NTC since January to completely rebuild by swing. Working in my rec room hitting foam balls into a trampoline net pretty much every evening. Mostly with a 7i, but do switch it up from a 4i down to my wedges. Had my first range session last week. Haven't swung my driver since October. Hit it better than I ever have.

I found it helped my driver quite a bit but I know some people in this thread didn't have it transfer over to driver quickly.

NTC translates to every part of your swing with every club (except putter). The driver just takes a bit more time, and one range session is not it. Think in terms of months and years to engrain the changes.

I worked on P3 swings and cast b for three months before even really trying a full swing. I then did LOADS of drilling at home on cast a and transition with the Justin Rose drill. I'd say that my ball striking has improved by 60% overall, but it's still nowhere near where it could be and I'm many months in. It all takes time and reps.

I need to work on getting more extension (at the waist) on the way back, Monte has some videos on this. I think the collapsing it cause by still getting long and across the line. But I'm striking it with a lot more integrity and consistency. Cast A is going to be the key get my transition more organized.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I actually thought it was working well for my driver, especially given the limited amount of time I've spent on it.  I just wanted to make sure I was on the right path with using these feels for the driver swing as well.

The NTC concepts are present in virtually all good swings. 🙂

Years ago I went to Monte for a lesson and I had the same problem as you. He placed the ball way forward in my stance, like outside my front foot. Got my left arm off my chest instantly and changed my swing forever. I still use this drill every time I warm up.

does getting your right elbow in front of your hip also get the left arm off chest? Thanks

I hit the ball relatively straight and move the ball both ways.  When I learned the game, it was my chest is supposed to be square to the target line, has something changed that?

NTC is all about creating the most neutral swing you can - getting in the positions that require the least manipulations and compensations. Adam Scott is probably the poster boy for that.

👍 Outside of him being 6ft 3 and me being 5ft 9, if I want a visual reference of a pro doing all the neutral things, he's my go to.

What is this Justin Rose drill you speak of?

Anyone have some swing thoughts on the initial takeaway with the wrists?  As I heard Monte explain it, the wrists go up but that motion he explains also has the wrist turn flat before position B. I'm getting the club up but I'm missing some shots to the right and think its a bit of cupping leaving the face open.  Maybe setting the wrists more "back" instead of up first?

Check out his perfect backswing video. Blending hinge with forearm rotation helps me. Also cast A is the primary time to fix an open face.

How flat your wrist is depends on your grip. If it's very strong a little bit of cup is just fine.

The Justin Rose drill/feel is incredibly helpful. Even if you just need a different thought to accomplish cast A sometimes. Also reminds me of a different interpretation of left shoulder down/off the chin from Monte, which makes sense as they are all accomplishing the same thing.

Plus, I'm always a big fan of something that can be drilled, but you're also taking real swings with it.

Absolute disaster for me that drill but will be good for OTT swingers no doubt. Not ntc related but a subject not mentioned much or at all from what I’ve seen is how high the clubhead is on all pro swings I’ve seen at left arm parallel(p5) downswing. I think Ulnar to early is causing me to be too far under plane. It doesn’t give me time to pivot correctly.

You can’t ulnar too early.  Something else is wrong and what’s wrong is your arms trial and you need to do the Justin Rose move.
