The greenemachine is predicting something is going to take place tonight that was near and dear to most of us that grew up in an upper midwestern state. 

Yes throughout Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota every Friday night there was a 'Fish Fry". So many restaurants, churches, and banquet halls featured Fish Fry's on Friday.

Make this Detroit raised kid's plate some fresh perch please. Wash it down with a Stroh's too! 

Something tells me though the "Fins" will be in this one to the end (though not an official pick of mine).

Touch way to hit the meme machine.  I didn't realize there were so many football memes, and you created them, even better.  The internet is a great source of humor, and after my dour view of the country and world I needed a little levity.

Today is Thursday which means the NFL week has started, and truthfully, I cannot think of any current players on either team.  I can only come up with Mark Brunnell for the Jags, and I think Byron Leftwich played for them.  Anyway, I am sure they are all excellent football players in their own right, and the game will be an epic clash.  I suspect they will compete without the critical eye of P3P upon them this evening.

In the clash of light blues and greens, I decry this game a push.

Jags had some quality players. Keenan McCardell who the Redskins let go was a stud receiver. Jimmy Smith was a fantasy stud and great receiver. Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones Drew were top notch running backs when running backs had to run up the middle more than just on third and one.  Their best player ever was a mountain at left tackle Tony Boselli who protected Brunell's blind side. He even manhandled other Hall of Famers like Bruce Smith. I was a fan of the Jags when they first got started. Tony Boselli would have been in the Hall of Fame if not for a shoulder injury that ended his career early. Todays Jags look nothing like the Jags of expansion lore. I remember when the Super Bowl went to Jacksonville and Tony Kornheiser made some disparaging remarks about having to go to Jacksonville for the big extravaganza in a not so big town.

The original fire brewed beer.  I wonder if they still claim that.  I can say, with certainty, it was our beverage of choice in high school.

I remember my pops telling me a long time ago that when he was in in High School in the 60's, that's all they drank in Ohio was Stroh's. They made a club called "The Shorts", that's Stroh's spelt backwards.

Hot pretzels with beer cheese and mustard dip served with ( another Iconic Detroit beverage) spiked Vernor's. 

The gnome on the label told me it was so smooth with a brown liquor. Lime wedge of course. I'll pop a few tall ones of that concoction. Probably should be the old stand by Canadian Club rather than Maker's Mark which I'd prefer.  CC is from right across the lovely ( H*LL) Detroit river. See living in the south currently got me jumping on the bourbon bandwagon immediately when it should have been Canadian whiskey all along. ?

Elderly Uncle Ted exclaimed, " did Jason Jr. just tell everyone he was gay?!!" Uncle Ted had a shocked in horror expression on his face. Ted's daughter Loretta shouted loudly into her father's ear and replied, " Dad , DAD!!! J. J. just asked for more FAYgo pop. FAAAYY go not Gay dad!" Loretta shook her head once again for dealing with her dad's hearing loss was driving her batty. Impatient witch that Loretta. Uncle Ted leaned back in his recliner and tilted his head. Ted had a confused look on his face. Ted then shouted rather loudly into the family room, " what time is the Lions game?!!" Jason Jr. looked uncle Ted right in the eye and said, " jeez, how many times do I have to tell you it's the Jags and the Fins tonight Uncle? !!"   

 

So remember good times can be had with other Detroit beverages besides Stroh's beer y'all.  

damn there goes the southern influence sneaking right up on my Michigander Born Butt once again. 

 

Then it's a big platter of Coney's for the room. With a zillion napkins.
