I lived in a townhouse with a few guy roommates. One of them might have been doc. Pea had her own place, a very old ,built in the 50's Arlington,Va. one bedroom. Pea wanted a bigger take. I certainly didn't suggest the next spot the Pea was to be employed. She jumped ship for a new adventure all on her own. See the dancers from the Camelot liked to occasionally have a girls night out in Mary's section at the the Sky Lounge. She became friends with the pretty lipstick girls from downtown. They offered try it out shifts at the Camelot Gentlemen's Club. The club was in a proper nice neighborhood in our Nation's Capital. Do understand that the clientle of the joint was white collar male workers from Washington or educated tourists. There were few trouble makers and even fewer hood rats. It was as classy a Topless bar as I had known. I had not one issue having my sweetie working there. Why? because my lord that girl was so crazy for me. I wasn't uncomfortably smothered one bit though, but still had never experienced that level of gaga ness and devotion. Possibly Mary believed I was just the partner to solidify her new existence in DC and stay far away from OHIO. She wanted to cocktail serve only at the Camelot if she were to work there. She wanted no part of dancing topless (limited to only that in such a place within the district limits). I was in the server business and had never seen such a natural entertaining employee as Mary. Add in the absolute adorable appearance and there was no equal. Mary left the hotel bar for the gentlemen's club.

She hustled long hours 4 nights a week. Got home exhausted as the normal world was heading out. She slept all day. She brought home hockey gear travel bags filled with 10' and 20' and hundreds nightly. The closet of that old and cold apartment in Arlington probably had thousands in strip club money in just the one closet. Oh I forgot , the first thousands that the Pea earned went to some stage props. Again her idea. The props would make the tips even larger. Mary was the first loved lady in my life to get breast augmentation.  The Pea got an amazing enhancement. They looked natch.  She clicked on all cylinders nightly and never took any clothes off. Just wore a bikini. She raked it in while I managed restaurants for 23K. For fun we would often rent an 18 foot open bow with a 60 hp Johnson outboard and cruise the inlets of the Chesapeake Bay. Flying along the water with those silicone beauties and a few bottles of bubbly. 😁 Commish was happy. 

 

My wee Ohio cutie was determined. She never touched alcohol or drugs all those nights living in the underworld. This job was temporary for Mary, and it was viewed by her as just a step to her meeting a real businessman who would offer her a solid chance at a regular office job with benefits. She could not wait to get off stage and run home to me. It was such a phenomenon to me that she could just flip a switch and not be effected by the world she worked in.  She was sweet.  We got alone real well. No fights or strong disagreements, and surrounded by hockey bags of cash.

I remember those days while Mary was making it we were spending it LoL. Many a late nights to be had after the shifts ended. DC was like a second home. The place where all the fun and mayhem took place for about 1-3 hours depending on when we got there. Mary was cranking in the cash and we were smoking the hash! It was the 80's Baby! And it was fine as "red red wine!"  Mary was always so sweet to me I thought she was a cutie. A good driver also!

I love the spring and even though golf season is heating up. Which is wonderful. Let’s not forget our roots. 
So I am leaving this little nugget for all to ponder. 
Is Brady really the greatest!? 
Or just the uncanny right guy in the right place? 
A lot of breaks helped him along the way as well.

Yes, but comparing different eras makes it a tough call for the definitive greatest to me.

 Bart Star, Staubach, Peyton, Montana? To me Tom is the greatest and you knew that would be my answer regardless of him not being on a team with a low tier defense. But he does need Gronk! 😁

I wonder how Brady would have done against the Tampa Bay defense and those great New England defenses?  I am not saying Brady doesn't deserve his credit, just throwing out some tasty nugs for all to enjoy.  Brady is a great Qb no doubt. But we all tend to over hype him because of the rings. I think Dan Marino was a great QB and he never won a ring. That doesn't make him any less great. But his team was mediocre on the field. But if you watch guys like Marino, Favre, Namath, Kenny Stabler, they were gunslingers not afraid to let it rip! So much fun to watch.  Brady is death by a thousand paper cuts QB and always knew if he messed up which he did often, his defense would bail him out. Atlanta Super Bowl, Seattle Super Bowl two games he played ok in but James White and the defense won it for them. Julian Edelman, Gronk, Wes Welker were his main squeezes and they hardly went downfield.

I wanted a sweet ride. I was doing ok in the restaurant business and was feeling it to buy a new car. I really wanted a Mitsubishi Starion but they were a little out of my price range. I started frequently poking around the lot at Lustine Toyota in Alexandria on Rt. 1. This was back in the spring of 87. I would fawn over the new Supra's , MR2 's, Celica GT's and even the GTS -16v Corollas. Yes by this point in life the Detroit kid had seen the light and only spent his hard slaved for money on Japanese cars. During one visit there was a car hauler dropping off some fresh vehicles that came in from the Baltimore Port. I saw it first on the hydraulic ramps being lowered. I had already test driven one the same models a few weeks earlier so I went right in the showroom and looked at sharks and picked my predator.I said how about you and I  write up a deal on the MR2 just now being lowered off of the truck out front. Please tell me there isn't a deposit to hold that exact car already ? There was not and I began negotiating. I got financed in house ( dumb but had to learn as a newbie) and grabbed the keys. It was a dream car for me at the time. Metallic silver flake Deep Black over matching perforated leather seats. The removable sun roof (didn't want the t-tops model but wanted that specific roof). 5 speed. AC, power switches for windows and locks. Of course it had to have the rear tail and wind deflector.  The stock rims reminded me of soccer balls and I felt they were unique.  It was a more spacious two seat go cart inside than the exterior dimensions suggested. I got two females in with me leaving watering holes often. With one siting on the center console it often brought giggles with my demand to slide my arm by their south side to shift. 5 speeds with 2 Betties ! That MR2  was an absolute blast to drive. It fit my cart golf bag in the trunk with out squeezing it in and that was too very important. The mid engine design handled like no other car I had driven. I zigged all through those Metro DC highways as well as Virginia's back hilly roads in my Toyota go cart. I even took a part time job at a detail shop to learn the craft and keep mine showroom spotless. Remember I said it was a black. The Pea knew damn well how much my high monthly payment vehicle meant to the blonde lad. I had it a long time and it was the most reliable car I ever owned and I got on it to red line pretty often. That was the legendary 1980's Toyota bullet proof quality showing in my car for sure. I took it down twice a year from DC to Asheville (960 miles round trip) where my folks had newly retired. What fabulous drives those were. Hwy 81 down the spine of the Blue Ridge Mt.'s to Roanoke and Virginia Tech land then south to retiree / hippie town. I sold my MR2 to a bus boy with 205 thousand miles on it after having owned it 9 wondrous years. I was moving to Vegas and needed something more practical. It provided so many smiles over the miles it was hard to let her go.

Let it be know that the Pea absolutely loved our doctoro. KB was just being himself (doc) and I remember her hugging him and complimenting him often.

It was really kind of sweet.

Mary had us getting married and starting to have kids 5 years later. I did not see that happening. In my mind marriage would be possibly looked into after age 30. She then started to smother me. I had to end it and move on. Heck in my 20's in DC I had  a pace of one girlfriend after another. I liked it that way but I was an a** and a cold heart breaker to a few. I told the Pea we were over. She flew off the handle. She  would not accept it. She started to follow me here and there. She would cry and plead her case. I stood firm. It did really hurt me but I knew I was not getting coerced into getting married and having kids. She would lay off and stay away a bit and then find me once again. Remember the story the doc told about the Pea tearing on to the golf course to chase me while I was playing? yeah that kinda sh*t. I thought about a restraining order but never went through with it. Her sobbing and pleading turned into anger and rage. She would run into me and pound her fists all over my torso. I do believe the dear girl had a form of a breakdown, and I know I was the cause of it sadly. She kept shouting that no other woman was going get her LP and she would make sure of it. Plenty of fits and it was not a pretty situation. I believe only one police visit for her causing a disturbance. The Pea was hot.

After work yesterday I met up with my main instructor for a lesson. I have been working with Ed for years. He is still a 2 handicap at age 81!  He has taught me so much about the swing and playing the game. I am very thankful for my friends willingness to make me a better golfer. I expect better scores tomorrow and Tuesday after being in his presence. You have still a pure swing coach.
