I don't usually do this.  My moniker is P3P and why shouldn't it be.  I can miss a 4.25" hole from any distance, pin in or pin out, I can just do amazing things with my wand.  Get your head out of the gutter fellas.  I am using a putter I bought in 2002.

Anyway, it came to pass someone saw a need to enhance my putter collection.  They also know not to just walk into Golf Galaxy and grab one.  I am too wily, nerdy, snobby, or dumb to let that happen.

Last night I rolled the rock indoors on the mat to see if I liked it.  The jury is still out.  It is a mallet, it has a little toe hang, my current is face balanced.  Not sure if the visual helps me align the putter, but we are going to give it a go for a few weeks/months, and it may well just end up next to the other putters that didn't make the cut.

What I do like about it is the weight, the loft, and the lie angle which was selected by me, heavier, lower loft because I play the ball in the front of my stance, and upright.

Eventually I will report back on the results, but for now, I will simply be a guy trying to find the magic.

I changed to a mallet with a tad of toe hang last year. I like that set up. I also took 3 putting lessons from an old boss of the moss in my area. My putting has improved since I did , so after 30 years with a blade style wand I eventually saw the light. There is a reason 60% or more of Tour players now game a mallet of some variation.

I am currently rolling the 2002 original Futura.  Nothing says you suck at putting more than looking down and seeing that thing.  Some call it the Millenium Falcon... and they are so crass they do it to my face.

And the new guy Mike brought into the group down in SC yesterday gamed one also. Such a space ship looking thing. It does have good balance though as I had one briefly when they were just released.

Does yours pull in satellite signals from Russia? Mine did!

Mine is so original it doesn't even have the red lines on it, those came later.  It is just silver.  I don't get the satellite signals from Russia, but I do have the code to the Jewish Space Laser.

Great photos NCL, and thanks for posting. Back when I lived in the DC area the parents of a girlfriend invited us down for a weekend to their condo on Hilton Head. There were a bunch of her family members there for the week. Terry's dad was a golfer and I had to play with him and his two brothers. It was an intimidating as hell round. We played the course. I remember thinking it was no where worth the greens fees, and it was way more tight and tree lined than I had imagined. If you slightly sprayed your shots you were sunk. The entire HH area is rather beautiful, and as you say is a nice spot to unwind. I did find it a tad snobby though.

Cool that you played there...it does seem very confined until the last two holes.

My wife totally agrees with your assertion that HHI is snobby.  Perhaps that is why we've only been once and have no plans to return!

No fewer than 5 of you took past champion Webb Simpson this week. That's a lot of faith in the kid that has lots of kids himself. Let's see if the guy who grew up playing Quail Hollow in Charlotte has the game to snag his second tartan blazer.

PGA Tour player blog: Webb Simpson reveals how he maintains a happy family life as a top-five golfer, Golf News & Top Stories - The Straits Times

He now lives in Charlotte but he was born and raised in Raleigh before heading out to Winston-Salem to attend Wake Forest.  Golfsmith (RIP) had a big store in Raleigh and I used to kill time while out making deliveries by stopping in and testing clubs (new and used) in their indoor range.  More than once I overheard workers there talk about Webb coming in and chopping it up with everyone.  Very well-liked and not at all a big-timer.

Can he go back-to-back at the RBC?  I'm just hoping for a top 10 as winning is hard work!

A classic model to post up brother L !  The Doc. Wtf was Ping thinking? Could you imagine having to baby a 6 foot downhiller on 13 stimpping bent grass greens in August with that Tonka toy wand? My Lord no chance. Now that one could be used over Ham radio waves!

Writing this on my phone which I never do. F im a late boomer remember so I avoid this stuff. Apologies for how it might be a bit jerky.

Thanks for the break down ncl. I should know his background and thanks to you I got it now.

Yes indeed Webb has a ton a fans here in the Tar Heel state. Just a wholesome church first southern boy. They are big on that here in NC. 😉 I followed him at the Master's because he has such a fantastic driver swing.  My favorite thing to do when attending a Tour event is to get right next to the tee marker on the box and have my legs pressing against against the rope. Getting that close to the big hitters smacking the driver is what it's all about for me. Also that day I watched  from 6 feet away Stenson (my favorite pro) ,Hideki, Poulter, Day, DJ, and Gary Woodland swing driver.

So Pure to see that connected power. It impresses we life long short knockers. 😥

When I get home I will add my thoughts on why a bit of toe hang might be the preferred way to go. I did ( after leaving the blade) first a full season and a half with a large sized face balanced center shafted wand. The Rife Two Bar Mallet. Still had a milled metal face as I DON'T do inserts.  Oh yeah I went in the complete opposite direction in a putter. I took 5 putting lessons.

More coming your way Mr. just weeks into the new season.

Hope what I have for you will be helpful.

I am a fan of Webb even though I am neither wholesome, church-first, or a southern boy (even though I do now reside in NC)!!

I agree that it is fantastic to see the PGA pros just hit it so pure.  I've also been to a few LPGA events and I find those players incredible for their power and the smoothness of their swings.  To see a 5'4 125 pound woman crush a drive much farther and more accurate than I ever have is very impressive up close on the ropes.

Arrived in plenty of time for a warm up in putting, short game, and range. All seemed fine. Mike is the commissioner of the the retired set that play numerous times during the week at Links O Tyron. There are members (but a public track) and pretty much all of them live a golf cart ride out of their garage away. I as I have told you before I went down there as a single 3 times a week when covid first looked like it might actually shut down courses statewide here in NC. I knew that they would hold out forever down in lindsayland. I met Mike getting paired up. I am now a welcomed member of his club. He is the commish of about 30 guys. I tell ya it does not matter who he gets to play with us as I enjoy all of them on the course. All are cheerful and pleasant , but seriously capable golfers also. They think it's funny I get stoned. I think its funny they all chew tobacco. So this week there was a first timer Rick joining the foursome. Rick as many do drive their own cart. Rick had low music playing out of his EZ Go. He did what you should do and asked if it bothered me on the 1st tee. I said it's low enough but what kind of music I wondered, because if it was Country I was hitting the tunes idea with a NAY. It was a 70's mix. I was cool with that. Rick told me he got so consumed by golf when he first started out, that the journey it took to get to scratch burned him out and gave him a mini breakdown. He had given it up 10 years and was returning this spring. He had heard from the biscuits and gravy crowd that city slicker from Vegas is a blast to play with. Rick was working off the rust. By the second 9 he was smiling large. Cool story. He and I will be playing together again. It is good to be commish Mike's friend.

Nailed the first drive. Approach from 9 iron range was a fatty and I then failed the up and down. Bogey out of the gate.

Shambala was playing on the next tee.

I got steady pars going after that. I ended my drought of doubles though on hole 6. Then again on number 7 I doubled, and it was a short par 3 !! sux    I blocked it horribly into the brambles down the hill. I stood on the 8th tee 5 over.

Flirtin' with Disaster was coming out of Rick's cart's sound system.   I swear.

Yes back to back doubles. I was rattled and thought well you best stop the bleeding right now. This is a course that you are confident playing so turn it around also came to mind.

I knew that my drive on 8 the uphill par 5 would have some (what they call Red a** in Texas) frustration behind it.

I ripped it --- center cut. I was angry inside inside and knew I had a mental test ahead of me to save the round. I ate a bunch of food to metabolize the thc in a move to balance the ship.
